I really don't think it's a coincidence that Docherty coming back into the first 11 has resulted in much better performances from those around him. Nor is it a coincidence that when he was subbed off we lost all our organisation /game plan and we looked like a boxer on the ropes.

We've had lots of players just like Doc over the years. I think it's high time he started getting the respect he deserves.
It's more about the defence behind him getting properly reinforced. Doc and Coady then act as a further barrier so overall it makes us more effective defensively. Although Doc can't pass, at least he gives the ball away less than Anderson. But longer term we need an 8 who can pass as well as tackle.

Is there a stat on the amount of 2nd balls won?, it just seems everything drops to the opposition or they are 1st to the ball, it drives me mad at times especially when we play for 2nd ball possession. Just interested to know if the stats tally with what I think I’m seeing.
Really? Thought that was true for a long stretch, up to and especially the Millwall game, but last two thought we have generally won the second ball battle. QPR manager referenced that specifically in his post match too
    Yes really
    Cool, good chat  :)
I do think with dykes, coady and the new wing backs we have won more 2nd balls as they are at the level. Before we looked stuck in the mud, some of our players just werent at the (athletic) level of the champs.

Glad Carey isn't getting too much criticism. He didn't have a great game and nothing came off for him but he didn't hide and kept working.

Another point on the board and, on the plus side, we were very good for the first 70 minutes until we ran out of gas. We look solid at the back, with Jones, Bell and Clarke particularly impressive and some way off a relegation side - notwithstanding our lack of creativity and control in midfield.

Dykes had a fine game up front against a very good pair of central defenders, although I'm afraid that Kelman struggled to make any impact. I very much hope to be proved wrong but, whilst he had one or two nice touches, his lack of strength and athleticism suggest that he's not really up to this level.

Happily, none of the teams in the relegation scrap gained any ground on us today, other than Norwich who beat a Blackburn side who look a better bet than Norwich for the bottom 3. We've also edged a further point ahead of Leicester and Pompey.

Hopefully all our players emerged unscathed from Friday's game and Leaburn will be fit to return to the squad for next Wednesday against Stoke.
*Except Oxford who gain a point on us with their draw at Coventry where we lost, (though not a popular view i know for many so apologies to anyone offended)

I went with a Rangers mate, who is a very good judge of a game. He was happy enough with a point and thinks Charlton should be fine regarding staying up. Other Rangers fans echoed this on the train home but also pointed out that we were playing a fairly depleted team.

My mate, also liked Dykes (mainly for his attitude) when he was at Rangers but said he won't attack the 6 yard box for crosses. Chambers put a superb cross over to the far post last night....exactly where you would expect your big striker to be...but Dykes was hovering a bit back from the near post. If Dykes can get himself to the back post more often, Chambers will find him like he did at Leicester.
Do you (or or your mate or does anyone else) know why they hate Kelman? Got booed all game and one comment on BBC said they didn't mind Dykes but called Kelman a yank cu*t. Get that he never broke through for them but that's not his fault or that uncommon and they sold him for a decent wedge. Bit weird to react to that by booing him and digging him out on comments / socials.
I think he posted or erased qpr from social meeeeeja , you know how we cry like babies about Barry bannan laughing at us getting relegated or some other guff, Kerman dissed QPR, so like most football fans they can’t handle it and hate him with a passion
Clearly Kelman is a man of taste and good judgment 🙌

    last 6 games

    24. Sheffield Wednesday      0 points
    23. Oxford United                6 points
    22. Blackburn Rovers           4 points
    21. Leicester City                 4 points
    20. West Bormwich Albion    2 points
    19. Portsmouth                    8 points
    18. Charlton Athletic            8 points
    17. Norwich City                 12 points
    16. Sheffield United            10 points

Sad to see Sheffield Wednesday with zero points.

We just need at least one win this week.

If we hadn't lost concentration against Portsmouth in the last minute of the game Portsmouth would have 6 points and we would have 9........but thats football folks.

I am looking for some comfort in the above but we seem to have found some/good form especially the first 70 minutes against QPR and in the past 2 games we have regained confidence and momentum.

Playing the away team's theme tune in the build up to kickoff - hmm, let's not do that again.

Know what you mean but they did bring 3,500 punters and filled the JS stand and paid loadsamoney to the club. You remember in the Prem days we used to welcome the away fans and even clapped them! Everybody liked us then. What happened!?
    No !

I saw the usual comments elsewhere on social media that TC was lazy. Such a strange one
As you infer, strange people. Why give a shit? Possibly racist scum. Ignore.
Where does the 'racist scum' accusation come from? If you think those comments were because of TC's colour, maybe you are the racist?
    I’m ignoring your weird logic.

The point is, why even mention other social media on here? Why do lifers put links to that cesspit X? It’s full of idiots, racist or not. We generally reach a decent range of opinions on here in a sensible and friendly fashion, so why bother mentioning what nonsense is being said elsewhere?

Worth putting into perspective that the almightly Stoke drew 0-0 away to WBA, who have 2 points from a potential 18.

    Come on, lads.

Reading the Stoke papers all their players were pretty meh! JRS was okay but it was his first game in 7 weeks. I'm hoping we really go for it, with better subs and we're getting an extra days rest plus we really do owe them one.

I can see why Jones bought TC at left back in trying to be more offensive but still having a certain amount of cover.

It didn't work either way as he wandered around like a tit in a trance

Just looking at our goals per game ratio and probably explains a lot. We are in the bottom five for scoring goals which is a bit depressing.

Looking on the positive side...we didn't let a goal in against Sheffield United, Leicester and QPR who normally score 1.3+ goals per game.

That Stoke, who are coming this Wednesday, aren't exactly smashing them in.

That the teams beneath us have a marginally worst record at scoring goals than us.

However. Stoke have conceded the least amount of goals of any team in The Championship at present. For a team like Charlton that doesn’t score many that poses a problem. I always fear that going a goal behind is absolutely disastrous for us but we really do need to score first and preferably early on Wednesday.

We really need to get on the front foot against this lot and get our noses in front, as the statistics this season for both sides suggest a low scoring game.

A big test potentially for Clarke and Chambers against Sorba Thomas and JRS, but they did well against the Leicester pair, so hopefully we can keep them subdued.

Apart from WBA scraping a point against Birmingham, tonight's demoralising defeats for Leicester and Oxford could not have gone better for us and we now have a real chance to put some further distance between us and the trapdoor.

Just out of interest, were the QPR supporters held back last night after the final whistle?
No. Very provocative oiks before and after the game. Mostly young and not very organised but did manage to create a tension in crowded streets that could have sparked.

Incidentally, someone in a Charlton shirt was flat out in Floyd Road at about 7.55pm with a police cordon around then. Looked like a middle aged chap, or slightly older. Seemed to be moving but possible medical emergency. Lots of police and they were getting a silver heat blanket ready. I didn't want to ask before now so as not to alarm anyone. Hope the guy is ok, obviously.
I was there went he went down. Pretty sure he just tripped but definitely took a whack on the back of his head on the curb looked dangerous. Anyone know if he's ok??
    @s@swords_alive , @a@agim

Thanks for your concern with this. It was my pal who went down and I can confirm he is absolutely fine and I was with him at Southampton on Saturday.

I mentioned I'd read your posts on here and with his permission I am posting this to pass on his thanks and to let you know he's ok.

He'll be delighted to be called middle aged as he turns 70 in a few weeks !
