I’m not sure he’s being signed with a view to “we need him asap this season”. I think it’s more to have a look at him and maybe we will sign him again next season if he proves he can get fit and still play to a decent levelShootersHillGuru said:
We need him in asap because as each game passes without him being up to speed and available then the whole point of him coming in at all is reduced with each passing game. At what point it becomes pointless I’m not sure but if we want him then get it done for maximum benefit.killerandflash said:
Why?ShootersHillGuru said:My understanding was that he was training with Leicester and being considered for a short term deal but got injured and they then backed off. That seems to be the received wisdom. If he was “rejected “ because they didn’t think him worth a punt then I’d expect our coaches to pick up on that as well. Unless he has other irons in the fire I’d expect him to sign today or tomorrow latest. Will be hardly worth the effort for all parties if this drags out much longer. If we want him we need him asap.
If we were down to our last striker and losing games, then yes we might be desperate, but we've taken 7 points from the last 9, and have plenty of attacking options. So much so that Kelman our record signing didn't even come off the bench against Stoke. Plus Miles will be back shortly.
Even if we signed Antonio, I can't see him getting many minutes soon.
He'll have no resale value at all. Better to take a punt on a young, non-league striker who might come good, rather than a has been who may be good, but take up a squad number for a season.2 -
I presume that he would not immediately go into the match day squad when we sign him, there would be some match and training ground fitness to be gained, so would we have to register him immediately, or could we see if he gets to the right fitness level while holding onto him with a basic wage and then decide to register him, if he measures up??Garrymanilow said:I don't see an issue with it given that we've got 5 players to play in those striker roles already. There's a space in the squad and it's not like we're signing him instead of someone else. If he's only being paid when he plays then he's just a different option to have in case we need to change a game. I'll be fine if it happens and fine if it doesn't0 -
But if he's good, he's not taking up a squad number for a season is he?SteveACS said:

And if the non league punt isn't any good, then we've just wasted a spot on them instead!1 -
I don't believe that is possible. Yes we could have him continue to train with us but if/when he proves his fitness then unless he is under contract and a CAFC registered player he could just walk and sign for Leicester!Kap10 said:

Which of them would you have in your 11?shine166 said:0 -
I hear he had mild concussion from an airbag during an incident on the way to Leicester's training ground.0

I don't think he'd want to play in league 1 😁bobmunro said:

I seriously doubt we’re looking at a 36 year old who hasn’t kicked a ball in 2 years to take us forward next season. Especially when you consider Antonio’s best attributes was his pace and power which is no doubt going to be affected the worse by his injuries. If Leicester didn’t think he was worth the gamble when there only option was ayew. Shouldn’t be in our consideration when you consider we’ve just spent 3M on Kelman and have others like TC Kanu Leaburn Mbick all who have big ceilingsNabySarr said:

He’s probably still in Grimsby as he’s decided his media career is more important than playing.1

Matty Godden didn't make the starting 11 on his return!1 -
Is he fit and is he signing?
anyone know?

This story/rumour only started 4 days ago, 2 days of which were the weekend, so based on the fact he hasn't signed on one of the only 2 working days, it's apparently "dragging on"?
People really need to get a sense of perspective!4 -
Jones loves to be sneaky. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has signed and we are keeping it quiet for as long as possible, just to disrupt portsmouths preparation1

Why? Is he driving the Portsmouth coach?Todds_right_hook said:Jones loves to be sneaky. It wouldn’t surprise me if he has signed and we are keeping it quiet for as long as possible, just to disrupt portsmouths preparation9 -
With due respect, I’m not convinced that signing a player who hasn’t played for over a year would in anyway disrupt the Portsmouth coaching staff’s preparations, particularly given their injury problems.4
-
If finances permit I'd sign him, on the assumption if he's fit enough and plays we get first refusal next season.0

We typically only announce signings of ageing free agent Jamaican strikers at half time. Nothing to worry about0
