If Carey had playmaking ability as well he wouldn’t be playing for Charlton. Only Geldhardt mehmeti Azaz James Twine have more goals from midfield than he does and he plays in the 2nd worse attacking side in the league11

He's not going to win a prize for highest football intelligence and awareness.Oh, apart from the 2025/26 Charlton no 10 role prize and even then he may lose out to Berry0
-
Or Sichenje if his supporters bribe someone to get his name on the poll0

It’s counter attacks where he needs to improve. That’s where he loses the ball or shoots when he shouldn’t. When we have settled possession he usually makes the right choices and shoots when he gets space but I think the speed of a counter attack makes it harder to make the right decision as you have less thinking timefenaddick said:I actually don't have too much issue with the shooting, in the moment it's frustrating but as @elbiglad says it's part of his threat. What I find frustrating is when he counters but doesn't look up at all and just runs straight into defenders, that's so poor0 -
For me he’s one of the first names on the team sheet, he’s far from perfect but he does something different, has the knack of arriving in and around the box, takes risks and they have come off enough to gain valuable points, not a bad starting point for someone I think will get better.4

Thought it was worth shouting out on here. I don’t think he had a long throw in when he joined us, so clearly something he’s been working on this season and now in the last few games has been trusted to use it in games
Don’t think his are quite as good or long as Edwards’ long throws, but credit to him for probably putting in the work after training to work on them and add something else to his game0 -
I can’t quite decide if the value is him taking the long throw which isn’t really a boomer!!, or have him on the edge of the box ready to shoot, I think the latter personally, but obviously NJ thinks differently.NabySarr said:Thought it was worth shouting out on here. I think in an ideal world Clarke would take them all, but I think we must be concerned that he will injure himself if he adds launching long throw ins into the box to his already high workload at wing backSword65pf said:

Shortest long throws ever1

Or are they the longest short throws ever?Alwaysneil said:Shortest long throws ever5 -
Nope, not that long0

Thought he was anonymous again today, Docherty was in midfield by himself.1

Briston got it spot on during the Match Thread, if he was better, we wouldnt have him for very long.Has his limitations, where he can keep the ball for a bit too long, but if he can work on that over the summer, and learns when to pick the right pass, then he'll be some player at this level... As Jones said after Southampton, its his assists that have probably let him down this season.0

But he has now mastered the "Arsenal" in-swinging corner to near perfection and he put over a couple of really good ones today, including the one Ramsay hit the crossbar from.EastTerrace said:Thought he was anonymous again today, Docherty was in midfield by himself.3 -
This and his long throws suggest he puts in the time after training to work on things. If he can sort out his decision making in counter attacks he’ll be a serious playerFortune 82nd Minute said:

If we use the logic some do with TC, then Carey should have stopped improving 3 years ago when he scored 3 times in the Championship in 37 appearances.fenaddick said:

Fortunately in the real world players can improve between their early and mid 20s.

If we use the logic some do with TC, then Carey should have had plenty of moans and groans and booing when he didn’t get subbed.0

Think that’s too light on Docherty. The entire midfield dropped stinkers McLean Slimane and Maghoma wiped the absolute floor with all of them. When you’re losing or drawing against a side you have a decent chance of getting something from they’re the worse midfield in the league bar WednesdayEastTerrace said:Thought he was anonymous again today, Docherty was in midfield by himself.1 -

His shot at the death (that hit JRC but was going wide anyway) sums up the difference in quality between us and a lot of the sides in this division. He had time, he had space, he had to do better.

Needs to push on next season and I feel like teams have done their homework on him now, which is why we don’t see him affect games much any longer. Could definitely do more defensively and maybe take riskier passes.0
-
Regardless of what he did today, still think he’ll hit double figures for the season.
Will be interesting to see whether it’s him or Kelman, that finishes as our top scorer?0 -
He did but on the other hand you can say every single one of his goals bar the Sheffield Wednesday goal not a lot of midfielders would score at this level. No player hits the back of the net every timeCroydon said:His shot at the death (that hit JRC but was going wide anyway) sums up the difference in quality between us and a lot of the sides in this division. No doubt he can improve, as any player can, but it’s harsh to criticise his shooting or composure in front of goal - if he got it right consistently in every game he’d be scoring 15+ rather than the 8 he has scored.
I doubt there are many central midfielders who’ve done that at this level in recent years.
If we get the ball to him often enough in shooting positions I think he’s just as much as a threat as he was earlier this season, but our attacking play and being in possession isn’t our strength, it’s not something we do well every game.
No reason why he can’t get double figures by the end of the season and get a similar number next season.0
