In hindsight it was a bit of a genius signing for a team coming up a division.

If he’s 25 yards from goal, he’ll put his foot through anything that even half resembles an opportunity. Even better is that he’s probably got the best strike on him that I can remember a Charlton midfielder having in a good few years.

The club knew what the were bringing into the building. When your team is set up to pull out 6 clean sheets in 14 games, you only need one of Carey’s long range effort to go to win a match as last night proved.

  • Obviously a chilly day they’ve all got they’re trousers on.
  • From this mornings BBC News report:

'"I love hearing it, I have a little smile on my face," Carey added.'

Although, bad news for the spouses, he had this to say regarding the manager:

    '
"I love him", Carey, 24, told BBC Radio London.'

  • Some proper mingers towards the back of the queue.
Sonny might need a few of the other lads to help him out. 🐖

Would bench him for Pompey personally and give Knibbs a start.

What's Knibbs done to justify your faith? Apart from a couple of right place, right time goals he's been anonymous.

What has Carey done the past couple of games to be a nailed on starter? I think he needs a rest.

If we dropped Carey I’d rather see Fullah start than Knibbs (or Berry).

    .
  • In a relegation scrap 6 pointer not sure it’s the right time to be dropping Carey and completely switching everything up but does look he needs a reset down the line
  • Carey and Ramsay are the only two of our players who’d get into most other championship sides. As for knibbs, he’s been disappointing as well and is arguably below both berry and fullah in the pecking order now.
  • Carey was shocking today, and has been for a while. Wanted to do it all himself today and wasn’t team player. Needs dropping

Jones? He’s been the most consistent of the three, even if Carey and Ramsay have had some stand out performances.

I’d say Jones is the only one. Earlier this season Ramsay wasn’t even in our best team

Besides the injured lot everyone w the exception of Lloyd Jones, Coventry and I’d argue maybe Ramsay + Kaminski  has looked shocking for a while can’t go around dropping the entire starting XI

I don’t think any of our players get into MOST championship sides.

I agree they are the stand outs. But really probably only get into some other championship sides.
  • The issue I have with Carey is, for a centre attacking midfielder he really isn’t very creative. He doesn’t impose himself or is influential in a game for the forwards to thrive as he is to busy always looking to drive and have a shot.

He’s an NJ 10 and an upgrade Berry. Both work hard and have a good shot. Decent on the ball but neither are playmakers who add creative passing and flair.

Carey is quicker and more agile, he can drive forward with the ball, something Berry didn’t offer in L1, never mind at this level.

Knibbs is in a similar mould, known for his goalscoring and work rate at Reading.

Hopefully Fullah comes back into the squad, he’s the closest we have to a more technical 10, and on top of that he adds pace to the team. NJs said himself once Fullah goes into the team he probably doesn’t come back out. I get the feeling he doesn’t want to be forced to leave Knibbs or Berry out from the squad for an 18 year old, but sooner than later he’s going to have to.

He’s said that but Fullah was dropped immediately after Birmingham and he wasn’t injured because he played in the 21’s. We’ve proved in the past we don’t need a creative midfielder but we do need better quality all round,

Greedy isn't he? Several times already this season he's broke from midfield with runners, and taken too long to pass to a teammate, or he's taken the shot on despite needing a worldie to have a chance of a goal.

I know he's our top scorer currently so he probably feels justified in his actions, but it wouldn't kill him to look up and thread a pass once a while...

I think the step up in intensity to Nathan Jones and from league 1 to championship has caught up with Carey a bit recently. He had been playing nearly every minute so it is expected. I think he could do with some time out of the team which it looks like he’s getting now. Just should be Knibbs in his place rather than Berry

Berry seems to end every venture into the box laying flat out on the floor

I’d say Carey is more of an 8. A 10 is the creative player we don’t have. I’ve no concerns with Carey. We’ve seen he can do it previously, he’ll do it again. It’s not like the team have been performing around him either. Wouldn’t mind seeing him and JRC together.

NJ uses him as a 10 though, and Knibbs and Berry have similar qualities in that they’re hard workers over traditional playmaking 10s who offer flair and creativity but are weaker defensively.

Only way NJ uses a more typical 10 is if they have that work rate and aggression. There won’t be many players who offer both at this level.
