I am starting to think he might be a candidate for upgrade / stiffer competition over the summer.
He is very capable of popping up with important goals but when he doesn’t score it doesn’t feel as though he contributes much.
I think losing some of his goals could be more than made up by someone else more creative feeding the likes of Kelman, Leaburn etc.
I’d like to see Fullah given a go behind a front two at some point before the end of the season.4 -
Think it’s more important we just throw all the budget in other areas of the pitch that desperately need improving. With Fullah having a summer to develop Knibbs getting a full pre season feel like we do have different and enough options when Carey isn’t on itCallumcafc said:I am starting to think he might be a candidate for upgrade / stiffer competition over the summer.

I hope with Knibbs back that its a minor kick up the bum for Sonny, he's maybe been a bit comfortable at times this season with Harvey struggling for fitness - Now he's got proper competition for his starting berth again.0
-
He is being played in the position the Szmodics scored 27 goals from.
That was an awful miss yesterday and similar to the last home game with final kick of the game.1 -
I was really hoping Knibbs would replace him yesterday. In the end Fev came on for Doc and did well so can’t complain too much but Knibbs causing chaos at corners would have been good3
-
I was surprised that we didn't bring Knibbs on yesterday because he's exactly the kind of player you want when crosses are coming in and second balls are falling in the box. Having said that though, he's not really competition for Carey. He's offered absolutely nothing when he's played this season other than popping up with some goals and he's pretty much non-existent in the midfield. I'm beginning to realise that Carey in general annoys me quite a bit. He's scored 3 goals since the new year and while that's been important I think he's also cost us quite a lot with some selfish play in build up and wasted counter attacks. He's probably knackered but I think the team would benefit from a proper alternative to him when he goes through poor patches of form5

Didnt Blackpool fans warn us he goes missing for chunks at a time during a season?
Sure they said he was shocking for most of last season but brightened up when he was putting himself in the window at the end of it?3 -
Yup that's it exactly. Went missing for a good chunk of the season but turned up at the end when it got to contract time.carly burn said:Didnt Blackpool fans warn us he goes missing for chunks at a time during a season?

You lot need to pinch yourselves. Blackpool fans are entitled to their opinion of him but bladdy hell he is in his first full championship season in a completely new side with new players, he deserves a huge amount of credit, not doubting!Seriously I am amazed by some of the expectations on here after the large amount of dross we have been forced to consume over recent years!13

Sorry is the implication here that Sonny as a professional footballer waits until final 10 games to start trying? If so what a bizarre POV.MarcusH26 said:

Carey seems to me to be an 'all or nothing' player. He will either excel or disappear in a game ... in the words of Bob Dylan (almost) "there ain't no middle ground."
Sadly the ineffective games seem to be more frequent these days whereas he started the season well.
Carey is still young and may struggle to work out how he can affect things if his A-game is not coming off. The attempts at a driving run (which I love) where he ends up getting dispossessed (which I hate) is a good example. He needs to work out that the idea is good, but that the execution is poor. So, he needs to think about compromise and percentages.
I'd hope that Jones is helping him in that respect because there is a player in Carey ... it's just that we don't see enough of it.0 -
Couldn’t care less whether he played for the move for us or not. Only thing that matters is what he does on a Charlton shirt and considering we’re talking about a player who came from L1 on a free he’s done a very good job6
-
Or he could just be knackered where he hasn’t been able to take a rest from the lack of Knibbs fitness and/or another player in his position?Dave Rudd said:Carey seems to me to be an 'all or nothing' player. He’s been one of our better players even though he’s not been consistent like Jones, so agree in general.cafc_se7 said:You lot need to pinch yourselves. This is his third Championship season though, that experience must have helped him, something the likes of TC, Leaburn etc haven’t had.1 -
He needs a proper box 2 box midfielder next to him, he might come across as really greedy with his long pot shots and getting disposed of too easily after driving with the ball forward but whenever he drives us forward usually there's no support the rest of the midfield are missing and typically he's got one striker, who usually has no movement to try and find/thread through.0

You’re being way too protective. (It’s his third season at this level.)cafc_se7 said:You lot need to pinch yourselves. He’s been a crucial player for us this year but he’s also playing in a key position and giving us almost nothing in terms of keeping the ball moving and unlocking defences.
He’s scored important goals and he’s a valuable asset to the squad as long as he keeps doing that. But he needs competition from someone who offers something different / more than just the odd pot shot. He’ll have a place here for years. Nathan Jones has always loved someone who can pop up out of nowhere with a winning or equalising goal - just look at how many years he’s held on to Luke Berry.3 -
I was with you until you said Knibbs.cantersaddick said:I'm a big fan of his don't get me wrong. He's very good at what he does and his goals have been key for us. But he is a fairly limited player. He's good at popping up on the edge of the box and getting shots away and good at break away runs and shots. But as soon as he is expected to look up and make a decision other than to shoot you can see the speed of thought isn't there and then the ability to pick the pass is also just not there. He's a great option but next year I would want a different type of player to compete with him. Maybe Knibbs is that player?1 -
I'd like someone creative and someone who can beat a player in that role.1

Don't let the odd game disrespect or confuse the role this lad has played this season
he is the only player in the entire team, dare I say it even squad (exclude the kid Fullah) who actually and consistently tries to make something happen, drive forward, get the ball into the box or shots on goal.. play without fear
nobody can really know - but I would suggest the evidence is that he could look better and improve/be even more effective amongst better players and a better system
it feels perverse that many suggest Kelman who has been largely anonymous for most of the season needs the right players around him to perform but someone like Carey who has been very good for the most part needs to be upgraded3 -
Lol I mean that part was a question!!Covered End said:

Basically done brilliantly first season for a promoted club who aim was 4th from bottom .. but he hit the wall and Jones not doing him any favours by continuing playing him but now Knibbs is fit he can play the 10 role .. and Carey can rest up ……. If people saying why he not getting the same comments as Campbell very simple he has done something this season that’s helped us stay up0

Hmm very ineffective again today. Would like to see Knibbs / Fullah each given a go before the end of the season.Callumcafc said:

Jones likely to give berry a runout before they get on the pitchCallumcafc said:

I thought it was good to see JRC in that role, as he’s clearly not trusted enough defensively to play Docherty’s position.Callumcafc said:

Fullah’s the one who needs a run of games there, but it means Jones probably has to leave an experienced player out of the squad.0 -
Given that we are practically safe now i'd like to see Carey rested and Knibbs or even Fullah get a run out in his position.
Carey has been great this season and i'd have him in my top 3 for POTY, but no one has played more games than him and he must be knackered.2 -
Sonny looked baked yesterday, so can see Knibbs in for Preston if he's fit enough to play 65/70 minutes1
-
Carey definitely needs a rest. Fullah to start with Knibbs grabbing some minutes as a sub.
Won't bash him though. Played a lot of football and in his first season as a champ player, has done really well. His goals have grabbed valuable points along the way!3 -
Knibbs clearly only able to play 10 mins, otherwise he'd have come on ahead of JRC yesterday. The only options are Fullah (can he last 60-75 mins?), a tweaked system with TC or a totally different midfield set upRothko said:Sonny looked baked yesterday, so can see Knibbs in for Preston if he's fit enough to play 65/70 minutes0
