I think it basically all depends on the mood of the Charlton fans that turn up. If it’s the away game mentality of fuck it let’s have a party anyway mood from the off then the players will respond and we will win this. If it’s the fuck me why has he picked that team mood then the first misplaced pass leading to a Wrexham shot/goal will kill the atmosphere and any chance of getting something from the game.

Hope we react to a poor performance on Tuesday. We are home, need to be brave. Due a storming performance. 3-0....we can all dream. UTA.1

With Wrexham, then Birmingham and then Middlesbrough up next, we need at least one surprise result or we will be right back in the thick of it by the Oxford match.
Wrexham top of recent form table and scoring loads, us likely without L Jones and coming off the back of a disappointing result and performance v WBA.
Personally I can't see any kind of result here but I hope for the best.2 -
golfaddick Posts:35,135First of 3 matches against in-form sides. If we struggled against WBA who hadn't won since xmas & scored once in 5 games I shiver to think what Wrexham will do to us.
1-3. And that's being kind.
So, Southampton wasn't an in form side?4 -
4-1 to Disney FC. I fear we will concede early and then be under pressure for most of the game.

I wouldn't say Middlesbrough are on form, they've just had 2 home draws against relegation threatened sides and lost the one before that, Birmingham got hammered against Millwall the other night..... But as we've seen with this division, apart from Sheffield Wednesday anyone can beat anyone.golfaddick said:First of 3 matches against in-form sides. Wrexham are flying and Phil Parkinson who has had six promotions as a manager and over a thousand games as a manager to go with over 500 apps as a player has long since left his time at CAFC behind.
I thought Dobson was a great signing for Wrexham and would be a success in the Championship with the way they have improved each season when replacing players as they rise up the divisions:
Paul Mullins, Elliott Lee and Ollie Palmer etc and now the Catholic hate figure, McClean has returned home to the "The Six Counties"
Prove me wrong Charlton and play on the front foot and try to excite the CAFC crowd. No gung ho, but show some skill in passing the ball around and I don't mean in our own area or just our defence passing to each other before passing back to Kaminski on his left foot and the ball is kicked into the crowd, like we saw at WBA
A draw against the 2nd best form team in this division* would be a good result but let's try to win and use the flanks to get crosses into the area.
I don't want to go to the cinema to be entertained though I know there will be many quotes about Circuses on Saturday; I don't want Charlton players to be the Clowns.
*Southampton are 1st in the form table 13 points from 6 games and Cafc approach at the Saints I understand but playing the same way against a team lacking confidence in WBA just seemed so negative.6 -
Great preview, for an amateur (just jesting)
Wrexham are THE form team of the Championship, last 6 games .. W4, D1, L1 .. (only seen them on TV) they look formidable with a VERY strong and committed squad, great in midfield and attack, ruthless in defence with a very confident keeper
I always try to be positive, however, this game is probably our hardest so far this year, possibly of this season so far.
Even though we're at home, I can't see past a Wrexham win
Lloyd Jones is an absolutely key team member. However IF he isn't pretty much 100% fit, he shouldn't play. He's looked semi-fit and running on sheer guts and determination for the past month/six weeks. He'll be needed for even more tough games before the end of the season
Love to see us get a result, but ..2 -

Bloody hell, I hate the very name "Wrexham", a carbuncle on the name of football, bankrolled by these two "A" listers from across the pond, buying their way to a modicum of success, no different than Chelsea under Abramovich...anyway rant over...🤦♂️
I know we will struggle tomorrow, but I always live in hope that we don't lose any game, so am going for a draw, whilst praying for a win, COYR, please turn up and rub their grubby little noses in The Valley turf...8 -

1-3 Wrexham. They’ve got too much for us0

I'm weirdly starting to feel a lot more confident about away games than home games. I basically expect us to grind out a draw most of the time away now but home games will be very occasionally a stolen win or increasingly likely a bit of a pasting in front of our own fans. I think we're at that stage in the season where the siege mentality is our best friend but that's hard to put in place at home. Maybe we'll benefit from Wrexham being aggressive but we're spectacularly bad at counter attacking, probably because Jones is very focused on being front-footed so there likely isn't much time devoted to it in training and our best counter-attackers in theory are TC who likes to check back and look for support and Carey who likes to run directly into defenders' shins while thinking about whether or not he can shoot yet. Fingers crossed we have one of those magical games where we defend well and nick a goal, an unexpected 3 points now would be absolutely huge for us at this point and assuming we don't do what we all know we're going to do against Sheff Weds that could put us so close to reaching safety. We don't seem to do well against Wrexham though and I think Parky knows how to deal with a safety first team better than most2

I think, maybe hope, that if Jones is out it will force us to be a bit more front foot.1

Comparing Wrexham buying players from Charlton and Cambridge to go up a division or two hardly make the owners of Wrexham the same as Putin's bitch in Abramovich who laundered money in Chelsea.
They pay good if not the best wages as they have gone up each time and Smith and Dobson etc were hardly superstars before they went abroad to Wales !

Nice one Dazzler!
Only change for me is Fullah comes into the squad ahead of Zach Mitchell.
Can’t see us risking Jones. Give him a week to get ready for Birmingham at home. Our season doesn’t hinge on this game, no point risking him to make things worse.
Think we’ll get a result, not sure it’ll be all 3 points, but fairly sure we won’t lose this one. At least another point towards safety.

I wasn't comparing them to Putin etc, it was just the concept of money buying success, which I am sure will all come crumbling down at some point…🤞soapboxsam said:eastterrace6168 said:Bloody hell, I hate the very name "Wrexham", a carbuncle on the name of football, bankrolled by these two "A" listers from across the pond, buying their way to a modicum of success, no different than Chelsea under Abramovich...anyway rant over...🤦♂️

I've 5/6 ads on you Tube encouraging me to buy a ticket for Wrexham , but I've already got a season ticket.NabySarr said:
They put loads of effort into the marketing last year. “Welcome to London” was everywhere. Guess we haven’t bothered this year to play up to the Wrexham factor and try and fill the ground with touristsDOUCHER said:We got a 25k crowd last year for this but looking on our ticket site, we don't seem to be selling at a rate that will get near to that - looks more like a standard saturday. Now i don't really get where all the people came from last year but why the drop off this year? Any ideas?
Those algorithms aren't as good as people say0 -
the problem with this, is there will be a lot of tourists who have come to watch the Holywood stars and not the football least of all Charlton.letthegoodtimesroll said:I think it basically all depends on the mood of the Charlton fans that turn up. Happy birthday for Saturday, Golfie. Let’s hope the Chinese takeaway tastes even sweeter (and not so sour) when we get a result.golfaddick said:

It's my birthday on Sat. I could spend £35 for a ticket in the AC Stand (plus £1.50 booking fee) and then £1.75 each way on the bus. Instead I'm putting the £40 towards a Chinese takeaway- at least that will be more appetising.1 -
Bang on Crowd need to be onside not bemoaning were not playing a team that we have the god given right to be off the parkletthegoodtimesroll said:I think it basically all depends on the mood of the Charlton fans that turn up. Just hope we show up and give it a go...we are poor at scoring at home oi think its 17 goals in 16 games. We need to do much better. Score line could be anything. They will fancy their chances.0

Large definitely one of the posters whose input I value on here and on the money as usual.LargeAddick said:
Not this free hits bollocks again. No game is a free hit. Every game is worth the same three points. We are more likely to get a win against Wrexham or Birmingham than we are away to Oxford.Pedro45 said:If we keep them to under five I think I'll probably be happy...
This one, and against Birmingham are free hits; the one that matters and from which we must get points is at Oxford.
COYA!
There's no free hits at the Valley. Every team in this very low-quality league is beatable in our house!
The only possible 'free hit' could be Boro away but the form they're in the at the moment I think we should be expecting a point up there.0 -
Just can't see where the next win is coming from. We need 2 or 3 sides to have off days in the remaining fixtures, starting tomorrow.
0-4, maybe 2-4 if we get any kind of rhythm going.1 -
agreed - they came to see wrexham not us and i assumed the same would happen this year - marketing must work a lot better than i thought if its down to not doing that.elbiglad said:
I think you're forcing your own issues with our 'turgid' football and massively overestimating the average football fan's knowledge of our style of play.soapboxsam said:DOUCHER said:We got a 25k crowd last year for this but looking on our ticket site, we don't seem to be selling at a rate that will get near to that - looks more like a standard saturday. I would've thought that was a rhetorical question because many football goers want to be entertained and I know the result is the be all and end all for you and many others plus me on most occasions but not everyone wants the slow traffic journeys or the cancelled train journey to the Valley to watch "Turgid" football.
I and others haven't become all Spursy but a modicum of basic passing on the ground in the opponents half by CAFC will help to make football fans come to the valley.
I do give Nathan leeway in our 1st season back but giving the ball straight back in this division is risky business.
We were a mid-table league one side at the time and got 25.7k in for Wrexham; we averaged 15.2k fans for the season. We didn't just find 10k new fans for one week, lots of casual fans and neutrals probably came as a result of a marketing drive that hasn't been rerun this year.0 -
Mitchell playing for the U21s today whereas Gough and Fullah aren't, so the latter two are presumably more likely to be in the squad tomorrow.6
