Me and 4 pals have all signed up to the big half Mrs got me the runna app for 12 months for Xmas. So am starting off with a path to 5k for 8 weeks
    followed by a 5k - 10k plan for 8 weeks
4 weeks of doing regular runs at distance of 7-10k
then will do a half marathon plan so I’m ready for the big half.

Have booked a gait analysis for a couple of weekends time is this a good thing to do when purchasing trainers?
I've signed up to this too, see it's sold out already. Looking forward to it

Ran the Olympic Park 10km this weekend, placed 199th out of 301 runners. Considering I was 135kg this time last year and could barely run 1km, I'll take it.

59:50, sub 1hour too. Best believe I was sprinting to the finish line haha

How did you find it @DoctorCharlton

I’ve looked at those regular events over Olympic Park before but not done one yet.

I’m also signed up for Big Half again, looking to improve my pathetic attempt last year

First race for me so nothing to compare it against but really enjoyed it. Really easy registration process, race photos and medal included. Marshalls were amazing, think it's worth the £30 registration fee.

I've signed up again for the March event.

Victoria Dock Parkrun has announced it is closing today (presumably through the amount of hard work getting enough volunteers each week rather than all you homers not touristing…)
Shame as I’d not managed to get there yet but on the plus side it makes me one closer to Lon-done….
  • Essential to volunteer occasionally at park run, otherwise it will be lost. There are people who have completed over 100 park runs and never volunteered. I believe 10% is an achievable figure for volunteering.

Yup.  I try to do about one a month or so.  It's not like you can't run a 5k before or after if you need to.

I really like the big half but have missed the cut-off for it. Hoping my running club gets some spots which I managed to nab one last year. Got the London winter 10k in a few weeks.
  • A spot of parkrun tourism was the order of the day for yesterday, so I ventured over to Surrey to do Brooklands.
It is held on the site of the old racing circuit and next door to Mercedes Benz World.
A really strange course as you run part of the two lapper on a former go cart track, which makes for lots of twists and turns.
Well worth a visit, very busy, but very well marshalled and I managed to get round in a respectable time.
No parkrun for myself next Saturday due to the early Kick-off at the Den, hopefully l'll be celebrating long into the night COYR

Been struggling with various things over the last month, clearly taken its toll as really struggled with yesterday’s run.

Feel a long way from fitness at the moment

Snap. Except I've not been right for more than two months now for various reasons, some psychological. Finally got back to it yesterday, with a slow time for me of over 30, but I chose a very congested course where you need to allow an additional half a minute at least. I would have been under expectation otherwise. That was my 301st. Hopefully can get back into the routine now.

Sorry to hear that. Try and keep the running up, it'll clear your head and the fitness will return sooner or later.

I opened my tourism account for the year by doing Pferdebachtal parkrun in Dortmund - just 27 people there and many of those walking, so I managed to finish 13th!

I doubt I'll repeat that feat as someone who usually does 5k in 33-34 mins. A few German parkruns have really taken off (Kemnader See down the road in Bochum gets good numbers) but I think they're happy with this one being quiet...

First ever Parkrun completed this morning in 30 minutes and 34 seconds in the VM50-54 category
First chance I’ve had to do my second Parkrun this morning since the end of July and I finished in 29 minutes and 20 seconds in VM50-54 category.
First Parkrun of the year and just under 30 minutes in muddy conditions. Just keeping upright was a job in certain parts of the course.

    Not a day for PB’s
  • Typical when I’m not at Footscray Meadows parkrun, Kelly Holmes turns up to Parkwalk.

Muddiest parkrun I’ve ever done. Pretty dangerous tbh, had to walk about 6 times and still nearly slipped.

Around this time last year (I think) I did the absolute bog at East Grinstead. Some people still jumped around it like loonies but it was just ridick and if I hadn’t needed my E, I’d have probs just gone home instead of clocking up a 50-minute time to trudge through it!

Dry but very windy on the Essex coast this morning as I recuperate after missing a couple of weeks with a back issue

East Grinstead has the muddiest parts I've seen at a parkrun. The ditch in the trees near the end is like a WW1 trench, and you do it twice!

We knew it was gonna be bad today so we went to Squerryes Winery. Over the 5k it's slightly muddier/slower than East Grinstead, but without the trench and soup. I was 7 minutes slower than my summer time here.

  • I too have experienced the East Grinstead mud feast and vowed to return in the summer when I reckon you could finish in nearly half the time.
I chickened out of doing any parkrun that wasn't on tarmac today, so I headed down the Folkestone where the sun always shines. A nice pancake flat course along the sea front was what I expected, nope, a hill that seemed to never end, TWICE, is what I got.
    Still enjoyed it though.
  • I ventured north to Barnet yesterday to do Oak Hill parkrun.  A three lapper on tarmac, around a nice little park.
Apart from being overtaken by 'Alfred Hitchcock' I really enjoyed the course and the encouragement from the marshals, especially at the bottom of the hill.
There is a lovely cafe in the park that does both Polish and English food, that is reason enough to do parkrun tourism there.

London Winter Run this morning. Very cold and rainy but still a good event and managed to get a 10k PB. Hats off to all of the volunteers as standing around for ages in that weather can't have been nice.

Dartford Half for me next week and also signed up to the San Diego marathon to coincide with a work trip in May.
  • Did Gunpowder yesterday - between Enfield Lock and Waltham Abbey. Nice course, nice people. Glad to have done that on the first nice day in ages!

Valentines parkrun had over 2,200 people yesterday. I really feel for the volunteers.

Am in a horrible phase where every run is really hard work and unenjoyable. Recent Parkruns I’m now running over 2 mins a mile slower than my PB, and finishing even more knackered. Spectacularly crap.

245 at Avery Hill this week, wasn’t as muddy today which was nice. Good to see @WSS and good luck in the Dartford Half tomorrow 👍

Challenging, wet, hilly but loved running around places with a lot of family memories in terms of the park, going to Horton Kirby etc. Unexpectedly emotional for me to do it.

1.39 time as well which I’m delighted with.

Nice one!  I was running it as part of London Marathon training so trying to keep heart rate under 140. Tricky on those hills and a good discpline test given my watch predicted I could do it in 1hr42!  I did 2hr7 yesterday.

Did Thames Path yesterday, enjoyed it once out of the cold and wind at the start...

Suffered my first short-notice cancellation last weekend! Was in Hamburg - arrived on Friday night and the place was covered in snow, and during the evening it started to rain and most of the street snow washed away.

Got to Alsterpark (Alstervorland parkrun) in the morning and it was still covered in snow with plenty of ice - five minutes after I arrived they decided it was too dangerous. They were right, walking around the park the combination of water and ice made it very slippery in parts. Still, I found a nice cafe nearby...
