    Wow, great achievement @Hex

was slower, but really enjoyed my run at Avery Hill yesterday

@AFKABartram You need to start experiencing other parkruns - there are plenty dotted along the A2 plus Ebbsfleet (it's got a different name) starts shortly.  Mrs Hex enjoyed the course while participating in the test run last week.
I’m a creature of habit @Hex and don’t do change!

I’ve done 116 now and bar the days of New Year double ups where I did Danson a couple of times, I’ve done 1 at Charlton but 113 have been at Avery Hill. I just feel loyal to it, and part of my enjoyment is seeing and thanking the same volunteer marshals at the same spots.

Lovely with the sun coming out this morning, but didn’t appreciate being overtaken by numerous people in full Halloween fancy dress (I did manage to beat the inflatable dinosaur though!)

Battled Lanhydrock ParkRun down in Cornwall. 100m+ worth of elevation in the last 1.5km seems unfair. Great to run in a National Trust park though.

We went, I wore my running club top to show I'm local. The car park was full at 8:27, the cafe (with the only local toilet) was surprisingly quiet before. It's a very nice cafe actually, prices were okay.

It's a pleasant but fiddly course. I feel like 3 laps of the lake was the original idea, but they're still building houses.

I did Hull parkrun last week, that's a really pretty and fast one. They invest a lot of money in the park. Worth a go next season.
They are still building a bridge at one end of the course.  It will be a different configuration once all is complete.

Do you think the lack of parking will limit numbers ?
It should be okay once numbers settle to Cyclopark levels. Parking wasn't too bad, we spoke to someone who lives on the estate and she said the estate didn't feel swamped by cars. That'll be a really nice and fast course once the far end is open.

I ummed and ahhed about trekking to Ebbsfleet this morning. I’d decided against it because of their usual worries about being overwhelmed but then I saw they’d put it on the website with “Starting tomorrow” all over it so I thought if I’m up in time to drive there I will.
I wasn’t so I didn’t, I pootled up to tick off another Suffolk one instead.
    It’s fun being a country bumpkin….except I still want to get a #1…

I've got Covid so stayed in bed. I see Whitecliffe Lake had 471 people turning up - the first finisher being the guy that annoys people by leaking the start dates of new parkruns... hopefully it all worked out well for them.

Parkrun with bit of a difference this Saturday with my running club (Danson Runners) taking on Biggin Hill at Sutcliffe Park. Have only ever run Bexley but heard it's a flat course so will be pushing for a Parkrun PB!
New Parkrun PB secured at 22:13 yesterday. About 80 seconds taken off my Danson PB. Still only came 57th so gives an idea of how fast a course Sutcliffe Park is!

I did the test run for it a couple of weeks ago as one of my friends has supported in setting it up and it is a lovely area and a good park run. I couldn't make it yesterday. I agree with the above that when the bridge is open it will help. It is a bit of a microclimate down there too as it is in a valley.

Apparently everyone was pleased with how it all went yesterday.

    Felixstowe for me today…
  • Harrow lodge for me on Saturday.  A one lapper around a lake in deepest darkest Essex.
I got round ok with my stepson, who was able to talk, yawn and even sing his way round, whilst i puffed and panted.
I had to remind myself that he is in his mid twenties and is currently training to do an ultra-marathon.
The best part was apple pie and custard in the lovely cafe on the lake after, making it well worth the journey.

Did hilly fields for the first time today. Absolutely loved it. Realised i was wearing the wrong trainers as soon as I got there and had to take it steady on the downhill parts. Always enjoyable to do something a bit different and would
like to have another crack at when it’s not as slippery.
  • Went to see parents in Eltham before the game on Saturday so decided to do Sutcliffe. Ran a 28min PB! Really is the perfect PB course isn't it, completely flat.
  • Anybody done Leybourne Lakes? I'm seeing the in-laws over Christmas who live nearby, thinking of giving that a go.

My girlfriend and I were there on Saturday and she also ran a PB!   We must have been just behind you and in front of the man carrying his dog round.

Leybourne Lakes is a friendly, relatively flat parkrun.  There is free parking in Tesco across the road.  It can be a bit muddy and mind out for the tree roots along the way!  Hope you enjoy!
  • Does anybody do Dover or Deal? Have my eyes on getting back into ParkRun in the New Year at either of these.

Oh come on, I can’t have been the only one doing Greenwich Peninsular this morning?
Although I was the only one I saw with any Charlton gear on, saw mostly West Ham stuff and one guy in a Scunthorpe shirt too…

    You and 924 others!

I gave it a swerve because the start date had leaked, courtesy of a Facebook dipstick, and there was a very real risk of it being called off if too many showed up. I'l have a wander down once it calms down a bit.

Instead I got a lift down the A2 to Whitecliffe Lake. It was really good - it'll be a lovely one in the spring/summer. It's a great advert for the housing development there too, which I expect is part of the point! A total of 211 there, and I got my photo taken with Dame Kelly Holmes after. A good morning's work.

32nd at Bexley yesterday. Guy wearing a Charlton shirt and pushing his kid in a buggy finished miles ahead of me. Not sure if the timings were off but their official time was 10 seconds quicker than my Garmin which was bizarre. Might stick with their time as its a new PB at Bexley for me!

Did a muddy Hilly Fields today, which now includes running through a Christmas tree market on one corner!

Greenwich Peninsula had 431 today so hopefully the crowd numbers will settle soon.

I mean that looks to be a pretty short fudging course….
I did a real 5k this morning (another in deepest darkest Essex), my 150th, got a shite time mind…

Seen a few comments lately on SM moaning about PR admin with regard to to sex stats records. Much of it stems from gender critical posters piling on, who I'm guessing have never set foot at a Parkrun given their lack of knowledge about it. They talk of medal ceremonies and certificates being awarded and even females feeling excluded (eh?)

They don't have the slightest idea of how hard it would be to verify the self registration of sex by however many millions take part globally, and as a volunteer, well I wouldn't if required to ask runners their biological sex at the end.

That's quite apart from the fact that every runner could be doping, so if a woman transitioning to identify as a man is on loads of testosterone they:d be at unfair advantage over women who aren't. Surely we don't have to start thinking of dope testing too for a fun run?

Do others see this as a problem that needs resolving. If so, how would you propose to do it in a way that's practical given the numbers.

Sick of seeing the organisers being blamed for this. I can see why some countries don't stage parkruns if they don't want the hassle, but so many people would lose our without them here.
  • Parkrun is not a sanctioned race.  Results and times are entirely personal records.

To quote/paraphrase an oft used line in cycle racing "if you're that concerned about your placing, pin a number on".

Nice to see people all out running. Still not done a park run since the summer. Have done a few cross country races and knocked 6 minutes off my 1/2 marathon pb down to 1hr39
  • The yearly "mince pie ten" race near our town took place today.  Going up over the south downs (it's about 40% road and 60% trail/mud) and with one pretty horrible climb, the weather can (and today did!) make it quite a challenge.  Didn't do too bad, but didn't make my target of getting under 1:20 again.  But I should probably stop chasing PB's I set when I was nearly ten years younger.

Set a new 5k PB at Sutcliffe Park Parkrun on Saturday. First time under 22 minutes which was a long time goal but didn't really think was achievable for me. Also passed 1,000 running miles for the year over the weekend which had been an aim for a few years.
