as my scum mate said , we’re 20 years behind over here
I hate political correctness and sticks n stones n all that but did see a young disabled lad near me cringing/ feeling that hit when it rang out.
To be fair it was a very small percentage of them singing it and only a couple of times and obviously not meant in that way/ aimed at him but I did feel for the kid as it obviously hit a nerve.

Douchy baby, even if Coburn does prove to be a duff (and the jury is still out tbh), let’s look at the rest of our recent recruitment. Just from Saturday alone, Crama, Caleb Taylor, Alfie Doughty, De Norre, Sturge, Neghli, Azeez, Ivanovic. All class players who we paid well below their market value for. There’s quite a few also who were not involved on Saturday but are waiting patiently in the background. Then there is Zian Flemming who we bought for 2 mill and got 7 million for. Tanganga, who we got on a free and sold for 8 million.DOUCHER said:Coburn 😂😂So if, and it’s a big if, Coburn turns out to be a flop, I think our recruitment team are allowed a pass on that don’t you think? Ten or more excellent signings against one bad? I mean, it’s not like Charltons recruitment has been red hot. But if it gives you a small crumb of comfort having a good laugh at us signing Coburn, you crack on mate.0 -
I'm not reading 7 pages of posts to understand the nuance of a title, if I need to do that then maybe its not as clear as you make out.Covered End said:

Apart from a thread titled 'our support may make the difference to whether we stay up or not' alludes to that no ?Covered End said:
Agreed, but no one has.shine166 said:Blaming fans for performance is as bad as blaming spending on ST sales.
Plus read my comments through out the thread.
I take comfort from you being the only person that thought that and everyone else kind of understood.
Mind you there still seem to be some thinking I was suggesting we could have won 4-5 if we had sung louder, even though I have explained what I meant on very many occasions.
11 of us there yesterday.0 -
I guess the players will count themselves lucky from now on, as our home attendances will fall off a cliff given the post Christmas performances on the pitch.1

Let's keep our brilliant support going.
Leicester & WBA fans are not supporting their team & Blackburn fans aren't much better.11 -
Scored again today Douchy baby. That’s 3 goals in 6 games since returning from injury and all from the subs bench.DOUCHER said:Coburn 😂😂Keep it up mate 👍😁0 -

Shout out to our support in Middlesbourgh. May not of been as packed as Saturday, but the vocals from the Addicks provided the difference imo!!13

For all the (understandable) worries about the team and set up on here it does sound like those who did go got right behind the team as chosen. Well done to them all.JustFloydRoad said:Shout out to our support in Middlesbourgh. May not of been as packed as Saturday, but the vocals from the Addicks provided the difference imo!!7 -
So in a season of sold out away ends. our best result of the season coincided with our lowest turnout of the season.
Cant get more Charlton than that12 -
Watching the stream the only sustained vocal support came from us. We were getting overwhelmed for large spells on the pitch, but our support was there on a mission…to support.
Nathan Jones says it was outstanding, and it was.7 -
I was in the opposite diagonal corner to our fans, but could hear them.
The occasional come on boro from all sections of the ground was impressive but infrequent.
In the lounges, they took the defeat very well, whereas I would have been fuming.
Star guests John Hendrie and David Wheater were complimentary about our defending, but bemoaning their lack of a target/hold up man. Said they shouldn't have let Coburn go, which will interest a couple of lifers on here?
If the only other Charlton fan in the lounge is on here, sorry we didn't speak.5 -
I loved the momentum 'F***ing Useless do do do do' got. Unfair, but very funny.JustFloydRoad said:Shout out to our support in Middlesbourgh. May not of been as packed as Saturday, but the vocals from the Addicks provided the difference imo!!2 -
Have to say when the team sheet came out the fans at the ground hearts must have sunk, so absolutely chuffed for those that travelled got a result/ performance to pay for their efforts. Well done to all that went because it’s a slap going up to Boro’.4

fair play to the handful that went
good numbers for us
we also had less up there I'm sure on occasion back in the Prem1 -
i honestly thought it was the quietest our fans have been all season (away from home) from the TV until we scored and could hear a bit .
we've been decent vocally for most away games this season2 -

Yep the one and only time I’ve been there was a couple of days before Christmas in the Prem. I was living in Edinburgh so was a more local away game to me than most of our others but think there was less than 100 of us there that day.oohaahmortimer said:

Obviously no offence to the brave souls who travelled up last night, I watched from the comfort of my sofa so they deserve all the credit. But hopefully this helps put to bed the nonsense that if we just cheer loudly we’ll win every match. Fans don’t really make the difference (in a positive way, definitely understand they can contribute to a negative environment) - we would just like to think they do as it gives us some control over the outcome of matches. In reality we are very much spectators.oohaahmortimer said:i honestly thought it was the quietest our fans have been all season (away from home) from the TV until we scored and could hear a bit .

Not sure about anyone else but the audio on Sky seemed really odd to me. Because the comms weren’t there the mix was off and the fans sounded 100 miles away. I’d say 90% of what I could hear was our fans thoughoohaahmortimer said:i honestly thought it was the quietest our fans have been all season (away from home) from the TV until we scored and could hear a bit .

I could hear our lot pretty well, even though I was getting pissed off with the coms team, they seemed desperate for Boro’ to score, made me laugh though how much they were jizzing over them and they failed admirably😂1

Put yourself in the place of the players.
Would it inspire you more if you and your colleagues are being supported by the crowd or if you hear the boos or personal insults aimed at you by critic's who allegedly support the team you play for ?
This must be a rhetorical question unless you are the type that want to ram the insults down the mouths of the critic's who scream the abuse.
The Spurs crowd were notorious for turning on their team yet on European nights under the lights they could be very supportive. Obviously now there's a toxic relationship with the board and some players.
I personally don't give individual players stick even when they are having a mare or screw up a pass or miss a chance when at a game. I'm more of a supporter than a critic during the match.
Giving constructive criticism or praise after a game on CL ,(other Websites are available) but I find CL is the only one I would opine on.
It's just a better ambience when the players and 'fans' are together though in a team game of Jeopardy with the bounce of a ball or a deflection deciding a result on occasions there can't be a direct correlation between the support you receive and achieving a victory.

Nobody said if we cheer loudly we'll win every match. That's stupid. But if your legs have gone, you're struggling and under immense pressure, knowing and hearing a few hundred cheering the team on can only help. All in this together. Nathan said as much in his post match interview.se9addick said:

For games on the Sky Sports + channels I think they have a minimal set up, with no mics positioned around the edges of the pitch to capture the crowd noise. It does make it sound crap.fenaddick said:

I didn't see many Charlton fans in the town before or after the match (perhaps everyone already knew what Middlesbrough is like), but when I walked up into the stand last night it felt like a meeting of the Darby & Joan Club. Half our fans were so old they looked like they were extras for the remake of Cocoon. I thought about it, and realised that it was inevitable really as it's a particularly difficult midweek fixture for anyone who's working.
I think the atmosphere was very supportive and, considering the low numbers, the singing was pretty good. In fact, Valley Floyd Road was the best I've heard in a long time. Slower than usual with fewer missed syllables. We do suffer from a lack of original songs though and frequently ended up just copying what Boro were singing, with just one or two key word changes. I'm therefore not surprised if people at home were unsure who was singing. The atmosphere at the end was terrific, though.5 -
Why do players and manager say fand make a difference.I suspect its because it does.redman said:
