Rob Apter took free kicks and corners which inflates those stats and couldn’t defend for toffeeEastbourneAddick said:Looking at the chart above you can clearly see Rob Apter was the better player all round.

Chances created doesn’t equal better player all round. Apter is 100% better in the final 3rd and more creative than TC but in no capacity has the physical attributes or ball progression that can match TC. Personally would sell the pair and go for a proper 9 that’s more of a channel runner like we had in Grant or a better version of Washington/Kanu than a winger stuck up top or wingbackEastbourneAddick said:Looking at the chart above you can clearly see Rob Apter was the better player all round.

It’s stating the obvious that like Carlo he splits fans opinions of him straight down the middle. A curates egg who on his day can get you off your seat or like Wednesday’s cameo, apart from one defensive block out wide, frustrates the hell out of you (and his manager).
He’s 23 in September and really needs to start showing some levels of consistency in his game allowing for the odd off day you get with wide players and being asked to fulfil different roles in game. Making a 10 yard pass to a team mate, showing and not waiting for the ball should be second nature as is heading it properly.According to Wiki his contract is up in May with an option of a year and it’ll be interesting to see how that pans out.
For me I hope he has a good run in these final games of the season to prove to himself and others that he can cut it at this level and can hit the ground full of confidence next season.1 -
True. Tc's biggest issue has always been where does he fit in a NJ team. Defensive minded and no wingers. Played up front or as WB. Would he thrive in a team at this level who played a 433 for example? We can't answer that yet. Personally I dont think he would, but I hope I'm wrong. I hope he proves everyone wrong. Time will tell as the team evolves over the next few seasonsfenaddick said:
I think it heaps pressure on TC because people know he *can* create. He often gets picked out for his body language etc but that’s just shyness. It’s often the same people who call for a creative no 10, players who are well known for not doing any of the defensive work TC doesMeerKat said:
I think the problem is no-one is really creating much. Docherty 3rd on the list despite being mostly defensive. Apter and Tanto making the list despite hardly playing and being out on loan since Jan. Carey top of the list, when the biggest criticism of him is not getting his head up and passing.Scoham said:CharltonManor1966 said:
He very rarely creates things that's the point! He does get us up the pitch but then always makes the wrong choice or fluffs his lines.BigRedEvil said:I think TC has a big future, largely playing out of position and the few times he does play left wing he creates things
Keep in mind Carey takes set pieces and Dykes stats include his Birmingham appearances.
No one will disagree about his poor decision making and lack of composure at times, but to say he doesn’t create is exaggerating.0 -
He’s had his contract option triggered. 1 year left 100% Nathan Jones gets him to try and sign a new deal. If he doesn’t sign a new deal he’s getting sold he may be inconsistent but there’s a lot of value in there and I think a team who plays an attacking 433 will recognise that.RedChaser said:It’s stating the obvious that like Carlo he splits fans opinions of him straight down the middle. You think wrong. I remember that there were rumours that JRS was going to be recalled in January and there were more than a few people on here saying they weren't bothered if he went back. The cliche no end product was used regularly. When the transfer window opened he had 5 goals and 2 assists and plenty were saying that that wasn't enough to offset his lack of contribution elsewhere on the pitch. He went on to score another 10 goals and get 8 more assists and even then he had his detractorsCrispywood said:
Don’t think anyone ever questioned JRS end product. He could score and assist with ease, decision making was a bit off but I think the main problem was his fitness and strength. Typically if you combined the pair of them you have the best winger in the championship.Chunes said:When Antoine Semenyo was TC's age, he got 2 goals and 4 assists in 44 Championship games. Maybe Bristol fans didn't think he'd make it either.
TC was awful on Wednesday but has bags of natural ability. I'm sure he will grow as seasons go on.
I will always remember the amount of our fans saying Rak-Sakyi had 'no football brain', 'no end product', all while he was the top scoring winger in the league.
And if you were saying that about JRS and now you're saying it about TC, I hope it's not rude to suggest... It's possible you don't quite see this type of player that clearly.2 -
A little bit of effort today please TC. Cheers fella 👍1

TC has a languid style and this is where the criticism comes from. In retrospect Campbell wasn't the best sub to come on against Boro as we were not trying to chase the game and he just couldn't get into the tempo of the match, not helped by his 1st poor touch on the edge of our box and then you could see from his body language his confidence drops.
Carey made sure the pass went to TC and any criticism of Sonny on a night where we kept giving the ball back to them like a training session of attack versus defence is just ridiculous.
Tyreece has had to play at LWB at times since Edwards injury and before Chambers arrived and for a player that was a right footed, right winger primarily that's a difficult gig.
Marmite player who divides opinions and Nathan saying he is the best young player he has worked with including his short period at Southampton in the premier has put more pressure on a 22 year old who is painfully shy in front of a microphone.
It would be better for TC if cafc played 4-2-3-1 or similar so he could play as the attacker right or left in the 3. This formation also applies for Rob Apter who needed to be primarily an attacking player on the right of a 3.
Could Campbell and Apter be on the field at the same time ? A big fat NO.
TC is a work in progress but I'm just not sure where he starts in a 3-5-2 or any formation where he can't really be a wide man who can drift inside in a counter attack if needs must.
Carl Leaburn divided opinion between '87-98' back in the day.1 -
TC offers pace which in general we lack in the side. An important, underrated player2

I am surprised people loved Thierry small and hate TC almost identical players. Quick skillfull good at progressing the ball but not a single ounce of end goal quality was2

I think the reactions TC gets are often an indicator of how people watch football and their wider ability to analyse what's happening in context. The genuinely frustrating thing about him is when he misplaces a 5 yard pass, or breaks past someone and then plays a pass behind his man despite that being the easiest part of his move. Sometimes you can see him deciding not to take someone on and play the easier ball because he doesn't feel confident enough and that can kill a move. Despite that though the most common criticisms are about him being lazy and not putting effort in. Even when we're told that he runs 12km in a game and he usually has the highest numbers for distance covered in the team, even when people are shown heatmaps indicating that despite being brought on as a striker he's been blocking shots by our corner flag and dropping deep to help out, we still have people claiming he's not interested because they're unable to see past some fairly surface level stuff; he's a quiet personality and he plays with his shoulders down, he doesn't seem to like attention at all and he'd probably quite happily play in an empty stadium every week. He doesn't run around putting in blood and thunder challenges and his body language isn't positive. Doesn't seem to matter that if you watched the ground he covers and the actual movements he makes to support the team you'd see he's one of our hardest working players, he doesn't go about it in a Dobson enough way so he's accused of not trying at all and there's even people saying that at 22 years old there's no way he can improve. There's plenty of stuff you can criticise him for that he needs to work on but the focus from so many fans seems to be the kind of surface level visible effort stuff you hear being shouted at kids' football and doesn't actually apply to him, it's absolutely bizarre.10

More creative and technical maybe, but not all round - that’s why he wasn’t playing and has been loaned out. He doesn’t do the defensive work as well as TC, and doesn’t offer the pacey outlet to play as one of the front two.EastbourneAddick said:Looking at the chart above you can clearly see Rob Apter was the better player all round.

I couldn’t disagree more mate Small pushes the ball past players and has a foot race with them TC stops checks back and passes the ball backwards the vast majority of time unless he is in the mood (probably a bad way of putting it) then he might try to go past a playerCrispywood said:I am surprised people loved Thierry small and hate TC almost identical players. I have backed him but currently Campbell currently offers absolutely nothing. Can’t cross, shoot or pass and has zero in game intelligence5
