This is something I've frequently thought and occasionally posted - around the 2 equinoxes we should be kicking to Covered End 1st half when sunny. Seriously. It's a thing.
Look at him shading his eyes in the buildup and look at the length - and direction -of shadows on all players. He reacts late as the sun messed with him due to him looking right at it when the player shoots.
We need to be smarter about the choice of which way to kick and not always go for CE in 2nd half.4 -
Agree with you, but my point wasn't about him at all it's about how pointless some stats are. 3 blocked shots with 2 of them blocked within 3 yards of the strike shouldn't be given as much weight as they are in stats imo.fenaddick said:

There is something to be said about playing him in the right position which I have previously said but as a striker, he is poor.
I am fed up of the outlet argument though. Having speed to get up the pitch but have no output is pointless. Dykes is a much more effective outlet when he holds up the ball.
As for last statement, that's the joke. I think Carey, Jones would argue that point. As would 6 goal Kelman and Dykes, who has 2 goals and 3 assists in 13 games than Campbells 3 goals 2 assists in 39 games.Maybe you thought he was terrible but he was one of our most effective attacking players on the pitch and was a decent outlet. Yes, we hit the bar and should have had a pen but for all our hard graft we weren't as good as Norwich.

A strange game. Norwich were way better than us in the first half. A really poor display, considering they played on Wednesday, and we had the week off.
After the first change, bringing on Miles up front and shifting TC to the left, TC was transformed, and we looked dangerous. Frustrating that we didn't score, but we weren't given a clear penalty, plus chances keep falling to the wrong players. We finished with Dykes, Miles and Kelman up front, but none of them has a sniff of goal, whereas Clarke missed yet another good chance, JRC failed to deflect Carey's shot in (a tough chance but one a poacher like Kelman might have taken), and Ramsay hit the bar.
Ridiculous that only 5 minutes was added on. Penalties can be a matter of interpretation, but that 5 minutes was simply wrong, when you consider the long injury break, subs and time wasting.
Some slightly random subs today. I'm not sure anyone would have expected Fevrier to replace Coventry for example. Kelman and JRC coming on very late, and Coady having starred in the win at Boro hasn't featured at all in the next 2 games.7 -
I think a loss today was always the most likely outcome, which is why that 7 points last week was so important. I do understand that points at the end of the season are worth as many at the start of the season, but in a way, last week was probably the most important 7 points of the season.2

FWIW I’d not be surprised if he’s had his head turned and he’s off in the summer.?I hate agents, but could hardly blame this one for saying that to his client.

TK is a better shot stopper and has a far greater ability at reading the game and playing out with his feet. Which we saw today Mannion struggle with, putting us in some sticky situations and wasting/ giving away possession. Personally think Mannion should have done better with their goal today. He gets a weak hand on it and the shot was not right in the corner. He also struggled last season from long range.
TK hasn't help himself with some inconsistent performances, which he has admitted himself, but overall TK is a better GK. And most importantly that is the wide opinion within the Charlton camp too because they see them train every day.

TK has very variable distribution with his feet imo, often struggles to get the ball over the half way line and frequently takes an age even when there is an out ball thereby ensuring there isnt.
I do agree that Mannion should probably have saved the shot today though, should have anticipated the defenders not doing their job even though in most games they have been excellent.I personally do not believe TK is a better all round keeper than Mannion, his inability to command his area, to talk to his defence and that he dies not appear able to catch are larger issues than an occasional worldy save1 -
Very generous scores for Dykes in the player marks thread. I like the guy but didn't think he offered anything today. 33% pass accuracy is outrageous.4

All about midfield for me today. McClean looked like prime Pirlo but that was due to no pressure all game. Shame as when we actually passed it we looked decent but mostly long punts swallowed up. Onwards to Bristol City.0

But the first thing that sprang to mind after I checked the result on the BBC app was - WTF did Jones wait until the 87th minute to bring Kelman on when we needed to score?8 -

Very poor first half and Norwich looked a class above. Can,t fault our effort and work rate but that will only get you so far in this league. We were better second half but always felt that they could step up a gear. Other thoughts:
- that was a clear penalty
- their time wasting should have been punished, not least by adding at least 10mins
- it was clear that TC and Dykes don't work together. Should have started Kelman
- our defence is awesome and is the main reason we are in the position we are
- Mannion is our number 1
- atmosphere was flat but I guess that's what happens when you concede so early with the knowledge that a draw is the best we can hope for.
Despite what some people think I really don't think we are out of trouble yet. We need to to grind out at least one more win and a few draws to be safe.

Fairly convinced that TC would look far more dangerous on a regular basis if there were other dangerous players the oppo had to occupy themselves with.
So often he’s getting into those positions high and wide but he often can’t cut in and impact like he did in L1 because sides are cheating a midfielder over to that side to block up his dribbling lanes.
Having a genuine right sided threat opposite him would stretch out the pitch and give the opposing side less opportunities to double / triple up on him.22 -

Lost to a better side especially in midfield who were quicker and technically better on the ball.Can never question the work rate of our players we just lack the quality at this level to create or finish chances.Charlie should have come on instead of Leaburn when the change was made and I would have made changes to the middle 3 much earlier in the 2nd half.The usual piss poor performance from officials again. We will be ok and I think will pick up another 7-10 points by the end of the season (wins or draws against Bristol City, Preston, Sheffield Wednesday, Watford) .3

Totallly agree,Tc had them all over the place in that second half,he is the only player we have that can actually trap a ball and generally try and create something at his own pace.Yes he is sometimes a bit slow to react to certain situations,but this does not mean he is lazy or not interested.If this abuse goes on ,he will leave and we will be the poorer for it.As is usual,some people have to have an outlet for the the insecurities of their own lives and choose to abuse footballers from the safety of the stands to make them feel better.se9addick said:

We have to get some creativity into the side in the summer. It’s a must. Having a genuine right sided threat opposite him would stretch out the pitch and give the opposing side less opportunities to double / triple up on him.I think if you look back, the last time that it was felt that TC was being really effective, was around the Cambridge game last season, before Small got injured.Been saying it a few times this season, how when that was an option, TC would be harder to double mark, because we'd switch the ball to the other, so we'd give the opposition something else to think about as we'd have pace on both flanks.I guess Apter was the attempted answer to replicate that, but defensively couldn't manage... Whilst Fevrier is a good backup, but isn't the answer at this level... If we persist with TC (Which Jones will), then its something I'd like to see corrected in the summer. But then does that involve us going after someone that isnt Clarke or Bree.2 -
Absolutely it's got to be the main focus , get some creativity and some physicality into the midfield. I'm fine with Carey if he learns to actually pass and the jury is still out on Knibbs with his injury but the other 2 slots would be up for grabs with me. Hopefully PC has been racking up the air miles looking for the right type of player that can drive us forward.se9addick said:

It's been a grim watch this season and yesterday was no exception.
The team deserve much credit for their willingness to defend well and try hard hard but on the ball, it's often hard to imagine we are watching Championship football.
The Campbell up front thing hasn't worked at all and Kelman must be massively frustrated that he doesn't get the nod. Campbell must also be frustrated that he is asked to do a job that he clearly can't do and is now perhaps showing signs that he doesn't really want to do.
It's a shame that a lot of our very few chances, seem to fall to Clarke. He's a decent player but he's missed every one so far.
