Seem very unfair to make Blackburn play Tuesday-Friday just because Saints are in the FA Cup. Happy it is the case though, plenty of injuries please!1

Wrexham have to reach the premier league soon, otherwise owners, Hollywood friends, Disney etc etc will all get bored, and stop investing in the club.soapboxsam said:MarcusH26 said:

I wonder if the losing manager will get the sack at the end of the season. Both clubs have spent a fortune on wages and signings and I don’t buy the narrative on the BBC match thread last night that “plucky Wrexham” have done well to be in the top half, and Birmingham’s form has fallen off a cliff.
Can't see anything changing at Hollywood FC , Parky is probably still in too much credit
Let me check:
1/7/21 Phil Parkinson joins Wrexham in the National League.
13/4/26 Wrexham are 7th in Championship after having a bad week and dropping out the play-offs. The Hollywood pair have said PP has a job for life. Despite their money, would they want to fund a Premier team in their small ground.
Parky has over achieved.
Wrexham went for Charlton cast offs and Paul Mullins from Cambridge before they started recruiting the over 30's forwards from Burnley, Stoke etc as they got promotion after promotion.
I personally feel Parky will be there for 26/27 if he wants to continue and why wouldn't he as Phil is still in his 50's.3 -
lets hope so, Wrexham can then find its own natural level with its core set of fans without all the rubberneckers WITHOUT THE CIRCUS.stoneroses19 said:

I actually disagree with this. I think they’ve got about 3/4 seasons to get up there. TV is no good if it’s continued success, some heartache will actually help the series keep people engagedstoneroses19 said:

They will surely prioritise the league anyway.letthegoodtimesroll said:
They are racing towards a potential promotion AND already have a day out at Wembley in the FA Cup. If they’ve got players that are too tired to play Saturdays and midweek and be at the top of their game in each successive match in that scenario they are screwed anyway. Their best team at this stage is the one that has the same players starting on merit every match.killerandflash said:I hadn't realised Southampton vs Blackburn was tonight, but with so few midweeks to play the game they had to bring it forward to avoid the FA Cup clash.
Soton have such a strong squad, they can rotate to cope with all these midweek games.
Yes they've got a day out at Wembley but it's not going to make or break their season and City will likely beat them comfortably.0 -
Why is this any different to playing Wednesday-Saturday or Saturday-Tuesday?Pelling1993 said:Seem very unfair to make Blackburn play Tuesday-Friday just because Saints are in the FA Cup. Happy it is the case though, plenty of injuries please!2 -
Yes, the only interest I have in Leicester is seeing if they can muster any sort fight on Saturday at Pompey. We need to hope we finish above one of those teams you’ve listedCallumcafc said:Leicester are basically irrelevant for us at this point in time. If they win 3 more games than we do with only four fixtures left, fair play to them.
Realistically, the aim has to be to staying above one of Oxford, Pompey, WBA or Blackburn.
It’s really annoying that we’re so focused on other results currently and hopefully that can be put to bed come Saturday by the team stepping up and doing what’s required of them
I was thinking that in 19/20, we actually had a lot go against us
The Nimer/Southall ownership farce
The loss of Gallagher
Lyle’s injury and then subsequent refusal to play
The injury crisis we had from November through to Jan
The crap Jan window
The fact we just ran out of puff right at the end, despite a great level of fight and effort from Bowyer and the team overall
This season, I actually think luck has been more than on our side when you look back at some of the results. Carey’s last minute winner against WBA that their keeper messed up. Sheff Utd going down to 9 men. Sheff Wed and Leicester being deducted points (okay, I know there was a strong argument for them to have had a deduction back then that might have kept us up), plus we’ve had the run of the green (generally) re: other teams results over the season. We came out of Easter Monday with 6 teams below us facing one another and no team won for example.
I would say we’ve definitely been fortunate how this season has panned out, so I would say if we were to go down at this point, some serious questions would have to be asked and it would be ultimately unacceptable, despite coming in as one of the favourites to go down at the start of the season
We absolutely must see a response on Saturday and cannot rely on this luck of other teams’ results to continue
I hope Jones and the players are very aware of how they need to step up until we can confirm safety. Anything less is a bit of a disgrace imo12 -
Works both ways you can say yeah we’ve scored some last minute winners/equalisers and had results go our way same time you can argue we suffered an injury crisis that coincided with atrocious form, had a goal at Leicester unfairly ruled out, had missed pens for Coventry and Norwich, unfairly conceded a pen at Oxford, full time should have been blown after our goal at Pompey etc etching .cabbles said:

Also stuff like Sheffield United going down to 9 men wasn't "luck" it was completely justified8

The fact they had players sent off in a string of games showed it wasnt luck it was an issue they had/have, and that we had a few games where opposition players were sent off suggests something about our tactics, that's not luck either.sam3110 said:Also stuff like Sheffield United going down to 9 men wasn't "luck" it was completely justified1 -
We'd still be above Sheff Weds and Leicester even without their deductions so that isn't really lucky. Plus there's an argument Leicester actually got off lightly.3
-
Oh absolutely we had everything against us that season in regards to luck off the pitch, but I think that team never should have got as many points as it did Phillips was world class that year and got POTY despite conceding 65 goals and finishing on 9 clean sheets, whereas this team I reckon should have more points if we weren’t so useless up top the fact we aren’t happy with either keeper despite 13 clean sheets and only conceded 51 shows how good we’ve been at the back and we’ve missed 17 more big chances then we did that yearcabbles said:

In 19/20 Wigan were given a 12 point deduction for dropping into administration, so dropped below us. Without that we would have been down, even without Barnsley's shock win against Brentford.
The Championship must be the division with the most points deductions, as so many teams seem to have financial meltdowns in it.1 -
I honestly don’t think we win Saturday though. We will make such hard work of it.Crispywood said:Crispywood said:
For us to relegated with a win at Sheffield Wednesday 2 of the following need to happencafc_se7 said:
Unfortunately I agree with this. 🫣ForeverAddickted said:Basically need Southampton to win and keep their Play-Off hopes alive, and for Coventry to not choke at their opportunity to win promotion on Friday, even though a draw will do just fine - Sheff Utd / Leciester is the obvious concern with Blackburn's remaining games.Ipswich on the road have already lost at Oxford and Leicester this season, but then if a trip to Fratton Park is a potential banana skin for them on that basis, then so is a trip to the Valley as well... a win for Ipswich would also be ideal to end Millwall's hopes of the top two, as their other game in hand will be more tricky against Southampton.Regardless of what happens tonight or even if we beat Sheff Wed, I still expect another twist in the relegation battle
Oxford: Win 3/4 games (3 playoff teams)
Leciester: Win 4/4 games ( 1 win in 15)
West Brom: Win 2 and draw 1 from 4 (Ipswich still to play- that’s without a points deduction)
If Leciester do win all 4 games then we can still stay up w Oxford/West Brom outcome or 1 of those +1 other team below don’t reach this outcomes
pompey: Win 2/4 (2 automatic sides to play)
Blackburn: 4 points from 3 (1 playoff, 1 automatic and sheff U away to play)And after all that this assumes we also lose our last 3 on the bounce (only done once this season)0 -
I think any comparison to 2019/20 is incredibly difficult because of how bizarre a season it turned out to be: the disruption, behind closed doors games and our ownership was unlike anything else.Bowyer should be commended for the job he did riding the promotion momentum for as long as he did. Ultimately the momentum didn’t carry for quite long enough to help us survive.
We finished that season on 48 points from 46 games. So far this season we’re on 49 points from 42 games, having ridden the promotion momentum slightly better with what is in effect a squad of League One players.
I dislike the recent trend on here of rewriting what success looks like this season by comparing it to what happened six years ago where we ultimately ended up relegated anyway.
No one on here thought we were ready for this league after getting promoted, most said staying up by a single point would be considered success. Frankly if we do stay up with primarily a midfield three Coventry, Docherty and Carey I think that reflects extremely well on Jones, not the other way around.
Imagine how good we might’ve been this season with Cullen, Gallagher and Aribo and this NJ set up behind them.17 -

I personally feel Parky will be there for 26/27 if he wants to continue and why wouldn't he as Phil is still in his 50's.2 -

C'mon Ipswich and Southampton, your time has come...don't let your fans...and us down...🙄3

Oh god its raining at Portsmouth, game is getting called off again isnt it!!4

Think of all the naive management over the last few months. Giving Portsmouth three points in extra time, let alone the home fixture, one of many wasted opportunities. Squarely on NJ's shoulders. You can't win without scoring a goal. You can't make a game safe unless you score two (or more). It ain't rocket science. You can't win by 0-0 or 0-1+. The situation tonight is totally humiliating, and was thoroughly avoidable.soapboxsam said:We really shouldn't be doing this🤦🏻♂️
But the losses at home and the confidence draining out of the squad possibly added by having used up all our luck over the season with chances squandered against CAFC, we still need other results to go for us. Plus our own Profligacy in front of goal.
After Barnsley's great escape in the COVID mini league, talk of anyone already being down other than Wednesday is premature.
Definitely we should all be rooting for both Saints and tractor boys tonight.2 -
