I wouldn't say Burke looked rusty, but I thought he was gonna seize up.
Perhaps we were seeing what he can do for us. Now we have seen, we can call up the Steptoes to chuck him on the back and cart him off.
  • After a pre-season, Burke manages to get injured preparing for a rare start. His lack of fitness has indirectly other players for a second season running now!

Add to the Greg shields, Carl tiler, Gary rowett, Cory gibbs list of centre halfs we’ve signed who are made of glass.

Greg Shields, Gary Rowett and Cory Gibbs were full backs unless I’m a Spaniard

Rowett played more at centre back for us in his very limited appearances .  Shields was a right back .  Gibbs , no idea .

Safe to say he’s not getting that option in his contract triggered
  • I know this is a bit Harsh but. Pay him out of his contract, get rid. He's like the person in the person in the office who's always off sick and puts pressure on the rest of the team.

Brownie once said in his time some would play with a broken leg and some would be injured if their toe nails needed cutting.

I think we all know where Reece is on that scale.

    A) he needs to agree to being paid out and B) I don’t think your summation is true at all. He always looks devastated when he has to come off and I’ve definitely seen him think he’s tweaked something and try to carry on. Being injury prone doesn’t mean you go off at the slightest inconvenience, it just means your body can’t cope

I always understood the risk in signing him... First season in the Championship was always going to be difficult, so Jones again wanted players around that he could trust to see us survive and build on that survival... As we're seeing now we've stepped away from recruiting those he's worked with previously.
The risk was always... Is Burke going to stay fit... and sadly the answer is no, so question marks get raised - Yet Burke did contribute to our survival, just not as much as what everyone would have hoped.
Bell was no different... Only that risk worked a bit better... Just about though, given his own injury problems

TBF to Bell, I'm not sure he picked up any injuries whilst playing LCB. Covering at LWB did him every time.

Really no point paying out his contract he may not get another deal after this so would want the full amount and even if he manages 5-10 games thats still contributing something opposed to tearing up his contract, highly doubt hes a problem in the backroom as well

total liability - he's not even that good, would rather recall Gough than play a 'fit - haha' Burke

I know Jones has done a lot of good things but this signing is his worst act as Charlton manager .

Jérôme Roussillon? - Allan Campbell? - Gassan Ahadme? - Dan Potts?
Burke hasn't been great but scored the first goal in the 2-1 win vs. Sheff Wed, and we were well in control of proceedings at Ewood Park, 2-0 up before he went off injured... that's what let Blackburn back into it and helped them get the goal before HT
If signing an injury prone player is worse than those who have been involved, and done even less then... yeah okay

I’d argue Burke taking up a championship squad place when we knew would be injured was worse.  The other 4 things were very poor , don’t get me wrong , especially spending any money on Ahadme.

Rousillon Potts and Campbell were here for 6 months 1 month for Rousillon and at least he brought some media presence because of fifa.

Burke was a mistake but end of the day 2 year deal for someone likely on a free, who feature for 1/3 of a season wasn’t an absolute disaster.

Nothing tops the Ahadme deal unless he somehow has an amazing year and we get our money back

i doubt very much that he's 'swinging the lead' - if he doesn't play this year its pretty much career over

He would certainly injure himself if he tried that.
