Lineup has the makings for an absolute batshit crazy night5
-
And people say NJ has no Plan B... He's far beyond that. This must be Plan X.9
-
I get it. The players have been poor recently and a shake-up is needed. Mannion has made two comedy errors under no pressure and we have a keeper on the bench who is vastly more experienced at a higher level. Burke looked poor against Weds and Sichenje looked great. Fevrier had to come in for Clarke so it makes sense to put a very capable LWB across from him and Chambers' form has got worse recently. Gillesphey tends to show up when we need him and he's much better with Bell there. Carey has been diabolical for weeks and deserves to be dropped and Dykes hasn't been great the past few weeks. Kelman and TC started off the season together and they were absolute monsters at pressing, which is what Jones will want from them tonight. The only surprise is Coventry in for Coady, I imagine because having JRC and Coady both would be too little running in the middle16

Goal difference is mathematically irrelevant as only way we go down is if we lose 3 and oxford win two.3 1-0 defeats and oxford 2 1-0 ictories send us down so 5-0 is no worse as far as that is concernefLargeAddick said:

If Oxford win their remaining two games and we lose ours we'd be worse off on goal difference regardless. We'd drop by three, they'd increase by two (at a minimum)--meaning we'd drop to -15 (again, at a minimum) and they'd increase to -13. So goal difference isn't relevant.Brown59 said:Dreadful line up. We are only 3 goals better than Oxford. That will be gone tonight. Playing for a draw is not the way. We look defeated with that line up.3 -
Goal difference a total non consideration. The only way it comes into play is if we lose our next 3 and Oxford win their next 2. In which case, their GD is better by default.Isawsummersplay said:Bang goes our three goal, goal difference superiority over Oxford.4 -

Cant imagine Ipswich have prepared for that line up😂Southbank said:Christ. NJ must have written this game off from the get go.
neither have I ..... 🤣3 -
Looks like the lopsided 532/433 that got us promoted.
Fevrier up against their talented winger looks a mismatch, but it’s kind of necessitated by Ramsay and Clarke being unavailable. Despite that, I don’t mind it.
Gilly has been okay this season with a proper left back next to him, which he’ll have tonight in Bell.
When we have the ball, expect Fevrier to push high and Collins to shift right to cover the right back area. Also Campbell to shift left. A lot of responsibility on JRC to get into the box and support Kelman. Wouldn’t have minded seeing Knibbs get another chance there as Carey has faded and looked a bit tired recently, but get why Jones would opt for a player with a bit more defensive instincts. I like Coventry on there too - he’s not everyone’s cup of tea but when we’ve played well this season and moved the ball effectively through the lines, he’s had a good game an played a role in us doing that. It’s a system that worked well for us last year and earlier this season before we got bogged down with injuries and patchy form mid season.
The question will be, can we get on the ball often enough and long enough to transition into the more attacking shape. Might be tough, but the pressure is off a little bit tonight because no one fancies us and we just need a point to complete the one and only mission for this season. It’s nights like this we have a habit pulling something out of thin air. If we can start aggressive and get our press going at its best, there’s a slim chance we can do something here. I’m actually a bit more hopeful of it having seen the starting line up.1 -
Hadn't factored in the Blackburn ending on 50 points scenario, so maybe not irrelevant after all!!LargeAddick said:

No, it is irrelevant... To catch us they have to win l of their games and we have to lose all of ours. If we lose and they win every game the swing is made up regardless of the scoreLargeAddick said:

When you're playing a mid week match in FM and see everyone at 80% fitness so feel forced to change most of your team.7
-
Let's be honest, there's barely a week go by without a "WTF" comment about team selection.
"WTF TC starting"
"WTF TC on the bench"
Etc etc.
In Rev Jones we trust.5 -
GD is irrelevant so far as Oxford are concerned. Could still come into play with Blackburn, though.Brown59 said:Dreadful line up. We are only 3 goals better than Oxford. That will be gone tonight. Playing for a draw is not the way. We look defeated with that line up.3 -
Playing Ipswich on a glorious sunny spring night brings back memories of 1998.
Forget the Doncaster or Wycombe games, that Ipswich play- off game was the noisiest I have ever heard the Valley. The roar was absolutely defeaning as the teams came out.
Grateful if those there tonight could recreate the same atmosphere!5 -

Was quite looking forward to this but can't see anything other than a defeat now. Sorry to be negative and obviously hope I'm wrong.
Scary defence.
Looks like Jones is writing this one off.
Treating it like a 1st round cup tie against Cray Valley.
Personally think they’ll run right through us but more than happy to be proven wrong.
Ridiclous lineup that wtf
This could end up a cricket score.1 -
Let us meet with triumph and disaster and treat the two impostors just the same.Either genius or his application for the Spurs job3
-
I don't see any players dropped who don't deserve it. Except Godden, and 3 games in a week would be asking too much3

This is the thread for people to spit feathers ...12 -
Is it too late for a tenner at 66/1?
Omg what is that line up... Me and my daughter are just looking at each other dumbfounded.
Surely Jones can't be thinking I'll write this off and save the team for Saturday?
Nevermind we will just nod our heads and bow to the Nathan's superior knowledge...
Let us pray!0 -
Great line up Nathan. 0-3 to Ipswich.0

So nice to not have Carey and Dykes (and obviously Burke) starting, that's for sure.2

Macca and Bell. I hope neither of them is starting at wing-back. Is Jones writing this one off?

Eight changes.
Team picked to piss off Millwall1 -
Not the lineup i was expecting, but I'm not horrified by it either. I need to see where everyone plays first.
Looks like we've gone with a number of players who can press the opposition, so maybe that's the tactic, rather than parking the bus3 -
Macca the Wembley Final hero. So glad with our depth of squad we only need him out for the really big games.I think he'll play a corker again.2
-
Good Lord…that lineup is, interesting.
In Jones we trust (for at least the first 10 minutes!).0 -
Free kick macca 1 nil win2

It's the Charlton way that we end up with a 1-0 win with this line-up. 🤪1
