Would like to like this more than once.mogodon said:If we manage to stay up - and suspect that’s in Oxford’s hands not ours - we need a fairly substantial overhaul in the summer. Too many of the squad not good enough for this league. To be honest, not sure the manager is either. On that cheery note, we go again Saturday0 -
Yeah we can all point to Pompey and Blackburn away, but on the flip side what about our 96th penalty at Oxford. These things tend to even themselves out.
i think it’s more the lack of quality we have in the squad. We’ve got a L1 loanee who whilst thought he did ok tonight, he’s up against players worth £20m! Not his fault, just not good enough overall.6 -

100% this. Millwall will likely make wholesale changes and Oxford will need to win. If we don’t settle it on Saturday then we are in a horrible predicamentBig C said:
They might not need to get anything last day. If Middlesbrough don't win Saturday, and Ipswich beat West Brom Saturday and then their game in hand against Southampton Tuesday, then Ipswich will be guaranteed 2nd and Millwall guaranteed 3rd going into the last day (Ipswich will be too far clear on GD and Millwall wouldn't be able to be caught).ForeverAddickted said:IR94 said:If Ipswich win their game in hand and the other, then the last game of the season will be a nothing match for Millwall, as they won't be able to better their goal difference. We are in trouble.Millwall are only three points ahead of Southampton and Middlesbrough, both of whom have better Goal DifferenceThey're going to want to beat Leicester, and then get a result against Oxford to surely cement 3rd at the very least?
Millwall will rest their entire first team against Oxford on the last day in that scenario you'd think.
We need to get the point Saturday, otherwise we're in trouble. This really sums up where my minds been for weeks. It feels like we have been sleepwalking into this situation with the players on the beach post Boro.
It just feels like the whole club was in safe mode whilst the others around us were fighting.
And we haven’t been able to readjust to a relegation battle8 -
Simple- we do not score but have decent strikers.
Kelman not played enough. Jones plays Campbell. How many goals, assists , matching winning performances from Campbell this season?5 -
that one sticks in my head so much the second goal i think leaburn had to go to the sideline after an injury and then kelman had it in the corner and swang in a cross to where leaburn should have been, blackburn broke away and scored. baffling, why would you even bother crossing it you know your strike partner isnt on the pitch, we do things like that and it seems to happen oh so often its really braindead.MarcusH26 said:
Now this is really the one. 2 really really poor goals to concede and they were there for the taking.LargeAddick said:

We were doing well tonight until the injuries fucked us over. I don't know what people wanted NJ to do but Dykes for TC at half time seemed obvious to me. The other subs did seem to affect our rhythm but by then the damage was done. Silly mistake by Gilly but Kaminski should have saved the pen. Tonight was no where near as bad as the recent home defeats to Preston, Norwich, Bristol City. Play the same Saturday, score more than once and we may come away with a point but Hull will be right up for it. Docherty was outstanding tonight with Fev not far behind. Thought Sichendje did well but tired which isn't surprising.
The really annoying thing is that table after Boro. I wish it had t been posted, it's a depressing viewing.

May not technically be an assist but his reactions and strike led to our goal today. We were also much worse when he went off.rememberbillybonds said:Simple- we do not score but have decent strikers.

Ok, I take all this back and will go wipe the egg off my face - for some reason my Sky Sports app randomly showed me Pompey as level with us in games played and points but on two worse goal difference. Seems to have been fixed now, but too late to stop me looking a plum!Exiled_Addick said:
We’re not. Pompey are still in the mix and thanks to their shellacking at Coventry yesterday we could now potentially lose our last two but stay up on difference if Pompey also lose their last two but by no more than one goal difference better than us.Cafctekkers said:This was the table after Boro... How on earth are we the only club outside the bottom 3 still with a chance of going down!?
The general point that we should not be in this situation still stands though.

we played decent first half compared to the dross we've served up for most of the season , we're shit but will stay up this season

2% the big R
100% still the crappiest south east london football team, again and again forever and ever7 -
He made some good interceptions & brought the ball forward well. But he can't cross the ball (not really expect him to - he's a Centre half) and has a rash challenge in him.Dazzler21 said:
I don't think he's as good as many suggest, but he's certainly not appalling. Average maybe.NorthStandUltra said:

Still confident but it’s never easy is it - don’t like the thought of potentially relying on a Millwall result on the final day.The Kenyan is appalling BTW
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. He wasn’t great tonight & I’ve not been convinced other than his debut, I’m allowed my opinion like you’re allowed a Palestine flag on your profile picture 👍🏼

Silly fuckers wanting an Ipswich, let’s see what happens at Swansea…..1

Destiny seems determined to make so we will need Millwall to get a result vs Oxford for we stay and up and doubtless so they can sneak. Automatic promotion. Feels like we’re just not allowed nice things sometimes.0

Form guide sums it up really, weve been diabolical since the Boro win especially at home.

Call me mad but I have a feeling that Oxford will not beat Wendies.Isawsummersplay said:I think we are going to have to rely on Millwall not losing to Oxford.
Can't see us getting a point in our remaining two games. That 2nd half was just typical Jones-ball and not a single shot on target when we needed a goal. Shockingly poor.0 -

Did you not think that Millwall and Middlesborough and Southampton will want to have pole position when it comes to who and where they play their first game. Those teams need to win, and you need to factor in Ipswich playing two away games at West Brom and Southampton, before their final home game against QPR, once again those teams need to win, or they face losing out. Football is never as straight forward as it looks.Big C said:

We need to get the point Saturday, otherwise we're in trouble. The thing is, other than the Southampton Ipswich game, it all looks pretty likely. Best case scenario for me is they all win this weekend, and then Southampton beat Ipswich. Then there would be 3 pts between 2nd and 5th on the last day, and all 4 could go up in 2nd. Millwall would have to go full steam into that then, not just for 2nd but to get 3rd/4th and a home 2nd leg in playoffs, as they could end up 5th if they lose due to their inferior goal difference.Hopefully it doesn't matter and we get the point Saturday, or Wednesday do us a favour (unlikely).4 -

And I hate saying that.
They could win the first & lose (or draw) the 2nd. Saints could do the same.
Millwall can still go into their last game against Oxford with 2nd place still up for grabs.0 -

We started like the Charlton that finished last season and started this season, full of aggression and a high press, defence not sitting back so the midfield weren't isolated, Doc and Coventry working their nuts off, Campbell and Kelman full of menace and the long balls being thoughtful passes into the channels rather than just lofted towards the centre forward's head. Sichenje was immense, Gillesphey was having a good game, Fevrier a threat and Bell and Jones solid.
The problems started with Bell going off, leaving Gillesphey exposed and then TC having to go off injured at half time. We didn't come out for the second half, dropping back deep and resorting to aimless lumps forward. Ipswich deservedly took the lead, albeit via a stupid mistake. We then made a strange substitution for a team that's losing, taking off Kelman for Carey, leaving us with one forward on the pitch and using up a precious substitution slot. As Sichenje tired, his passing suffered badly and I think Godden got injured before he even touched the ball.
A usually glass half full poster, I'm really fed up of losing every home game and can't quite believe we're still in danger after being practically safe 7 games ago. I don't think Oxford take 6 points from their last two games but really don't want to still be in the mix on the last game of the season.11 -
We are where we are because we don’t have a fit striker of merit in our team. Our season was symbolised by godden limping his way through the last 20 minutes.1
-
Was expecting a spanking so slightly encouraged but Hull need maximum points too .... only hope is Swansea holding us for a point. Millwall will still need 3 points too so let's hope are friendly neighbours do us a favour.0

Docherty led by example tonight and it’s frustrating that he can’t turn in that sort of performance on the ball more often. He was breaking up play but then starting moves in the first half when he won the ball, and followed up well for the goal albeit got a fortunate deflection. If that was what we got from him every week then you can make a case for him playing a part next season.RodneyCharltonTrotta said:oohaahmortimer said:Doc, rightfully, MOTM in the lounge
He was immense tonight. Fevrier too put in a great shift.Fevrier was also up for it and tried hard. I felt he was let down by the lack of movement when he got the ball. There were a number of times he looked up and had no choice but to run at two defenders.
We got a great and fortunate start, and from my perspective we did try and I felt the team were working hard against a very, very talented Ipswich team. The riches they have in terms of players that can move the ball is something we can only dream of.
Bit worried for Saturday given the loss of Campbell, Bell and I’m sure Godden had we not used up all our subs. I don’t necessarily think TC is up to it at this level, but if he doesn’t play, then we really do lack any sort of pace up top.
In the context of the last 7 games we’ve really let ourselves down, but tonight had a bit of spirit and fight, we were up against a very good side. If we can show that sort of effort in the next 2, I do believe we have a point in us. Anything less than 100% fight and we’re relying on Sheff Weds or Millwall.Hopefully we’ve done enough come 2.30 Sat afternoon, but it’s still on a knife edge and we’ve got to get behind them on Saturday. I’ve no doubt the crowd will be up for it, we might just need a little more to help the team6 -
Can't fault the effort of the players, just lacking serious cutting edge and a final ball
Referee was appalling again and affected the game
Hope the injuries are not bad4 -
Err!! One tonight!! When Cambell doesnt play, is played in the wrong position (often) or is subbed (often) we have NO PACE upfront. The problem is.......JONES!!!rememberbillybonds said:Simple- we do not score but have decent strikers.
