*If* we stay up, I hope the owners have very deep pockets indeed. They'll be needed. No question.
Deep pockets but short arms I'm afraid

Apologies for my language on the match thread last night. I’ve fully lost the plot and can’t handle this anymore 😂

No worries - I was probably at the point at the Millwall game..... I have gone through the grief cycle now and have reached grim acceptance. You will get there :)
Same here. I tried getting angry and just felt more tired after that anger had subsided.

Grim acceptance of the terrible football and a hope that we somehow cling on.

Bring on the summer when my weekends won't be ruined anymore. For a while anyway

Totally outplayed by a team feshly relegated from the prem (we got promoted from L1 thru the playoffs) and so awash with parachute cash.
The result was no surprise though I did suggest pre game that we had a chance of getting a point
We will need a series of unlikely disasters to bring about our relegation, so I for one am looking forward to the end of a very mediocre season, and am hoping that the owners stump up an amount of cash in the summer to enable the management to substantially strengthen the team for next season

Gillesphey shouldn't be starting ahead of Gough, who for some reason, hasn't played a single minute since Boro. Baffling, it's so depressing.
Yeah I was wondering as well
I think you will find that Gillie is left footed and Gough is right footed and please don't restart the argument about footballers kick with both feet.

yes, he's a lot of things...
  • Best part of the match was the six Toronto lads who sat in front of me. Had a good chat about my home town. Gents all. Meanwhile... Desperately need a point...

Making Godden play on was shameful. He was unable to contribute anything and must have exacerbated the injury  - like Sichenje did when Jones refused to let him come off.

The only thing I can think of is by staying on , he’s occupying a defender.

Might be the last we see in a Charlton shirt of Godden, Bell (is he only on a one year contract or have I got that wrong?) and TC. Starting to think we are cursed.

I don’t get why Dykes is ahead of Leaburn in Jones’ pecking order? So much more to come from Leaburn who has a much better all round game. He’d have been a far better replacement for TC but wasn’t even on the bench. I’m assuming he was just surplus last night rather than also injured?
Maybe when Dykes came to us from Birmingham in his contract hé had to play so Many games so hé had a chance of being picked for Scotland.
Leaburn is by far the better player but i don’t expect Nathan sees it that way.

    All very Charlton this, innit?

Great start last night. Enjoyable football returned to the Valley for 35 mins.

Bell injury changed the game. TC injury REALLY changed the game. Godden injury hindered our attempts to change the result.

I had £30 at 66/1 on relegation yesterday on the way to The Valley to give myself a £2k emotional cushion if the worst happens... only CAFC supporters could see how generous that price was... couldn't ignore it....as much as I wanted...

But dont get me wrong... am gonna be there on sat even with a 4.5 year old in tow.... and I've bought a Swansea ticket in case I need to make a pilgrimage to South Wales to add my voice to the masses roaring the boys towards safety.

If its season over for Bell, Godden and TC our task of getting a point is quite a bit more difficult now.

The 'Oxford must fail' narrative is a bit of a LOL moment for me.

One point for Charlton and it's over.

Let’s stop looking for favours elsewhere and realise we only need a draw to settle this ourselves. We've seen we get unexpected wins and draws, so all we need is one of those to happen in those next two games.

Great to "enjoy" the game with @cantersaddick, too. Some great people on here.

Losing to Ipswich is no disgrace. They have a massive budget, and a squad full of quality. Indeed I'd argue that they've slightly underperformed this season, considering their resources and stability.

I'd suggest that there's a slight similarity between last night and Arsenal's lose at City. In both cases the biggest issue isn't the performance in the defeat which was an improvement, it's the performances in the previous games. For all the jokes about Arsenal choking, are we any different? Six games after Boro, none of them against top six sides, and we failed to win any of them. 3 home games before last night that we lost by a single goal.

The draw at Wednesday was such a limp performance, if we had started like we did last night on Saturday, I don't think their defence would have coped. For 30 minutes, we looked like a decent football team.

Injuries badly affected us last night, but NJ really needs to look against at his Plan B, and his bench selection. For the last 25 minutes, we endlessly just lumped it into the box from the half way line, but those balls are so easy for decent defenders to clear. We never changed it up, passing it wide to find a better angle to cross the ball in, which might have dragged defenders out.

Carey was busy when he came on, but was having to play deep or out wide, so well away from the goal. Knibbs is a presence in the box, but do we need Dykes, Knibbs and Lloyd Jones all as targets in the box?

The more I read on here & think about it the subs bench baffles me. There was no replacement for TC, no wide man or pace. But we had Berry, Knibbs & Carey all sitting there - all very similar in so much as they are midfielders who could nick a goal when coming on but aren't going to be an outlet or run at defences with the ball.

Surely you would only need 2 out of those 3 with the 3rd place going to a Fullah or a Dixon or a......I don't know, but something different  !!

It was uncomfortable to watch and it added confusion rather than cohesion with him on the pitch, so hard very little value. Bell was signalling he can't continue for 5 minutes but was told to try.

Slightly peeved with our player welfare management as we did the same with Collins and it's clear LJ is being patched and padded to play at all costs.

I assume he said he didn't want to come off. Doubt a football club would dare force a player to stay on these days.

Someone I know who knows someone in the know tells me that when you sign at the club as a defender you get sent your contract by Nathan Jones, but attackers get it from a donotreply address.

Just found this on Oxford fans site... They're thinking the same stuff we are.... Funny old game but it would be so Charlton to win on Saturday and stop all the heartache we're feeling!

'If Charlton get their point then it's going to be a deflated damp squib of a game. If they don't, we'll choke under the pressure again like we have with the last few "must wins" and probably totally screw it up.

Still - not over until it's over...please, when will it be over?!'
Makes me laugh when people on here moan that we're too negative when in reality every single fanbase in the country is the same.

Ipswich fans on the train after the match yesterday were convinced they'll fuck second place up.

One more point. What a whinging, niggly horrible team Ipswich are. Didnt realise they were like that until last night. Mcatee the worst culprit. Did anyone else see Mckenna come charging down the touchline and onto the pitch to remonstrate with the 4th official after Dykes foul on Mcatee? Worthy of a booking with another ref. They play nice football so cant understand why they resort to that sort of shit

having just watched the pen back Gillesphy's challenge is even more ridiculous as the fella is literally running away from goal.

just no need to touch him

We kept Sichenje on recently when injured.

Im not trying to be overly negative but I dunno if we look like picking up a point, especially with all our injuries. Hull possibly but this team is wilting under the pressure, going to Swansea to get a point seems like a huge ask

Although i like everyone else is getting increasingly worried, lets not forget that we haven't lost an away game in 3 months, so even if it does go wrong on Saturday it is by no means certain we will lose at Swansea.

I’ve always liked Gillesphey for his effort and application and even though this is a level above his ability, I think he’s done okay when called upon, but last night was really stupid.

Why even raise the arm.  If you’re going to get beaten to the ball then so be it, but absolutely incredulous to do that.  Ramsay at Oxford and Hernandez at Wrexham.  That’s now 3 stupid pens we’ve given away this season

Charlton were on Monday 33/1 to be relegated. Today they are at 6/1. Staggering the way Charlton are securing their own fate of relegation. Won’t see Jones for dust if we do go down which is looking more likely, even if he has a long contract. Won’t be any money available for Shity league one. Less season ticket holders less crowd financially we’re done for.

It looks like he went to grab his arm, thought better of it, but by then Furlong had felt the contact and started to go over, Gillesphey then tried to create confusion by going over himself.
    Just brain dead.

Looking towards our two remaining matches with Hull and Swansea, we need to go into them looking to win, and if we go with the intensity of yesterday then we should be fine, no use going for a draw because we will lose like that, just sitting back and soaking up pressure you can only do for so long before you crack, give a high caliber performance Saturday and there's no reason why we shouldn't be clear come 2.30, and we can all relax for the Swansea game...

Sorry if it's been asked and answered but why didn't Lloyd Jones need to leave the field after receiving treatment for his head injury in the first half?
