Swansea City vs Charlton Athletic
Saturday 2nd May 2026: 12:30pm Kick-Off
Referee: Will Finnie

Introduction
45-games played, 53-points achieved and the biggest reward; Championship Football secured for the new season, it all comes down to this one last game though, one final game before everyone can go off on their Holidays ahead of another frantic summer of Transfer activity and the next big question... Will we ever escape the 2024/25 season?

The Opposition
Name: Swansea City (11th) - Manager: Vítor Matos
Ground: Liberty Stadium
Previous League Result: QPR 1-2 Swansea

Charlton's last game of this campaign sees us taking the trip into South Wales with Swansea City awaiting our arrival. After a sluggish start to the campaign, there would have been concerns from the home faithful about the future of Swansea's time in the Championship. Just six wins were achieved in the first half of the campaign and after a run of five defeats the Swansea owners were forced to act with Manager: Alan Sheehan replaced by the Portuguese unknown: Vitor Matos

Performances slowly improved and Swansea moved away from the slight concern of being involved in a relegation battle, but consistency has remained the issue meaning they've never really gone on to replicate the likes of Southampton and Norwich this campaign - The Swans do head into the final day with a chance of finishing as 12th place Champions, however to do so they need to drop points, and hope that Preston record a win against visiting Southampton.

Its not going to be easy for the Addicks, not when Swansea have the Championship's top scorer for this season with Slovenian: Zan Vipotnik finding the net on 23-occasions this term, an improvement on his seven goals scored last season, his first in England, since moving over from Bordeaux. In terms of head to head and Charlton have 16-wins compared to the 17-wins for Swansea, our last win in this fixture was way back in 1965, a 1-3 win at the old Vetch Field - Our opponents were called Swansea Town in those days, so we'll go looking for our first win at the Liberty Stadium, and we'll go looking for our first win at Swansea City.

If there was one Charlton Manager who wants to achieve that more than any other, then its probably the diehard Cardiff City fan that is Nathan Jones

He's already mentioned that he's looking forward to this weekend, and we can probably expect celebrations on a Guy Luzon level if we do manage to record all three points this coming weekend. As a result we maybe wont see too many changes compared to last week; Amari'i Bell and Matty Godden will of course be a step closer to fitness, but at least we should hopefully see this Charlton team playing with more freedom now that the pressure of survival is now off our shoulders.

Elsewhere and you'd hope we may see spots for Ibby Fullah and Keenan Gough in the match day squad. The latter has perhaps been the most surprising breakthrough this campaign, and you wouldn't begrudge him earning a start in the heart of defence, especially if the fitness of Collins Sichenje remains questionable.

Kaminski
Gough - Jones - Gillesphey
Clarke - Coventry - Carey - Fevrier
Knibbs - Fullah
Kelman

Substitutes: Mannion - Burke - Chambers - Costello - Berry - Coady - Leaburn - Campbell - Dykes

Last Match Preview done and dusted, looking forward to the summer off myself to be honest.. thanks for putting up with another season of waffle, mistakes (whether they're deliberate or not) and extremely poor jokes... Always appreciate the kind and honest feedback.
Been doing these for 12-years now, always get to this stage and say to myself that it'll be the last season
But then AFKA always rocks up with a message... Its the only time he bothers to visit my cell within CL Towers

Appreciate the hard work, looking forward to correcting the dates in August already

It would be lovely to give Gough and Fullah starts, and maybe go two up front, but I also don't see Nathan changing things radically for this last game.

I wouldn't be surprised for him to put Berry on the bench, and for Burke and Bezza to make their final appearances for the club in this match.

It could also be the last time in Addicks red for Fevrier, Coady, Dykes, Chambers, and Clarke - well done and thank you to all of them for what they have brought to the club and the impact (at whatever level) they have made.

    COYA!

Nothing like going into the last game of the season with no pressure !!
Hopefully we use this game as a celebration and an opportunity to thank the players that have secured this luxury that wont be with us next season.
In terms of how we set up hopefully last week showed us we are a better team without a big target man up front and we go with 2 mobile strikers.
Not arsed about the result tbh but the performance will hopefully be good

Thanks @ForeverAddickted - hope you don’t throw the towel in as your previews are always great!

Question - what did you mean by “ and the next big question... Will we ever escape the 2024/25 season?”? Racking my brain and I can’t figure out what you’re referring to (but there’s a very good chance I’m just being thick!).

It must be tempting to give Lloyd Jones an extra week off. He deserves it and has played through pain for the cause.

Early in the season I made a few accidental references that we were in the 2024/25 season still, typical sort of mistake I make when I'm on autopilot. Got bored of having to correct my error when people pointed out the mistake so started to embrace it instead, and turned it into a bit of a running gag for the year.
That was my way of retiring the "joke"

Think Leaburn will start for some reason. No logic to that thinking!

Berry will get some minutes for sure.

Thanks for the previews this season @ForeverAddickted always look forward to them 👍

Thanks to FA for his Match reviews over the last dozen years.

I appreciate at the end of a season you may feel you've no more lead in your pencil or your quill is running dry but come July when the new season is nearly upon us, you will find your Mojo and hopefully your agent can get you a new improved deal with AFKA🤔

Would like to see Leaburn and Kelman up top together, still think that could be a decent partnership if given time.

Wait ... we've got another match? I thought the season ended last week.

    Oh well.

    My prediction ...

I don't give a stuff because THE REDS ARE STAYING UP!

Now let's wander over to the Kent thread to see if we can avoid being relegated out of the second division of a two-division set up because we're so shite ...

I thought Kelman did superbly as the ‘lone’ front man last Saturday and would like to think that’s the way forward.

Nathan Jones is generally disliked and viewed as a controversial figure by Swansea City fans, with the resentment often described as bordering on football hatred.

I think Nathan will enjoy the confrontation at Swansea where he is universally disliked.  I hope the team will give it their all - if only to send Nathan away on his holiday with a smile on his face.

Comfortable 0-4 win would be nice, but at least we can go into it with the mindset of "just enjoy the game", a win would be the icing on the cake for all those travelling Addicks...and the rest of us of course.

We need to have options with our attacking play and can Leaburn finally kick on and develop a partnership with Kelman but also possibly on occasions try Charlie as the lone striker but with 2 attacking 10's (Carey and Knibbs) which was a surprise to see against Hull.

Formations have to be flexible and the 10's will drop to be 8's depending whether in or out of possession.

New incomings will also be pushing for a start so who gets the shirt to start shouldn't be set in stone. 16 players can be involved for one team so starter or game changer just make a difference.

the heat is off .. be nice to see a more attack minded team, even if we get trounced, it'll (hopefully) give Nathan an idea of how we can be more expansive yet keep a solid defence
