Is it possible this is a contributory factor for this selection - to guard against him doing the same as his brother?Karim_myBagheri said:

Not sure how indicative this is as BOFA isn’t being used and so less will have been spent on the pitchCallumcafc said:https://x.com/fpl_tactician/status/2061085140994957821?s=46&t=ynww82GMl7VKBjthBflU0gPitches are going to be dead1 -

Decent win for Cape Verde yesterday....3-0 v Serbia.2

Good. But if they wanted to ban tactical timeouts, why not also move the drink breaks to the opposite side of the pitch or centre circle?shirty5 said:

I thought i heard on the radio, in the World Cup final half time will be 30 minutes! Is that right or did I mishear0
-
Normally I look forward to the World Cup finals but not this time. Why has the USA got it again so soon after having it before? Why has it been expanded to so many teams? Extended half times, so as to pack in as much advertising revenue as possible. Etc, etc, etc.
I really can’t be arsed to watch this overblown farce.6 -

So soon? It's been 32 years!! For reference, the shortest gap is 16 years (Mexico 1970 & 1986). Germany was also 32 yearsMametz said:Normally I look forward to the World Cup finals but not this time. Much as I disagree with another totalitarian 😉 state like the USA being given most of the world cup, it's Mexico's third bite of the apple, the last being only sixteen years after the first.Mametz said:Normally I look forward to the World Cup finals but not this time. to be fair to Mexico they stepped in when Colombia pulled out of hosting for financial reasons6
-
And Germany has had 2 world cups and 2 Euros since 1974
And France has 2 world cups and 3 euros in their history1 -
I expect Root to make plenty of runs, but England will struggle to take 20 wickets.Callumcafc said:https://x.com/fpl_tactician/status/2061085140994957821?s=46&t=ynww82GMl7VKBjthBflU0gPitches are going to be dead5 -
It’s really interesting when people come on the thread to tell us how uninterested they are about it and that they won’t be watching.
Really adds to the discussion...8 -

podcast about Italia 90. Not a bad listen. All 3 fans who have been to several world cups. their thoughts on this one which they briefly talk about at the end 41 minute onwards sums it up for most fans.1 -
It’s a discussion about the tournament. I’m questioning the suitability of the major host nation and the way that tournament is being organized. I can accept that people will disagree with the points I’m trying to make, but to imply that is irrelevant is frankly moronic.ValleyGary said:It’s really interesting when people come on the thread to tell us how disinterested they are about it and that they won’t be watching.

We will all sleep easy now, thanks.4 -
Anyway, a decent result and performance for the US against Senegal yesterday. Are they finally getting their act together.
Always good for a host nation to do well and keep up domestic interest.0 -

I really can’t be arsed to watch this overblown farce.I can accept that the America’s have right to host the World Cup, given the enthusiasm of the fans and the success of teams such as Brazil, Argentina and Uruguayan in previous World Cups. But the USA? It is not one of the two most popular sports in that country. It may be 32 years since The USA hosted the tournament but it is 36 years since Italy, three times winners, hosted the tournament, 44 years since Spain, former winners, have hosted the tournament and 60 years since England, former winners, hosted the tournament. In all of those countries there is greater enthusiasm for football than the USA.6 -
Agree with the general sentiment of that but, in this case and was the same for Qatar in 2022, I'd quite like to see the hosts fail miserably in the hope that it plays a small role in cooling their interest in the sport.ValleyGary said:Anyway, a decent result and performance for the US against Senegal yesterday. American and Middle Eastern interest in football has brought nothing that I consider to be positive, in terms of investment, trying to create breakaway super leagues that aren't based on sporting merit, or interfering with the culture through the introduction of 20 minute half times (the latter being the thin end of the wedge and the first step towards football being played in quarters rather than halves). So I hope the yanks get knocked out early and go back to watching their variants of rounders, netball and touch rugby.
Obviously hope Mexico and Canada stay in for as long as possible (as long as it's not to the detriment of England).

I really am not looking forward to it, don’t think we have a hope.
But will I watch every single game I can that’s not on at ridiculous o’clock? You bet your life I will.
I don’t have the willpower not to 🫣😩😩😩😩🤣🤣🤣🤣4 -
And Spain are hosting the next one, England lost a dodgy bid and I'm not aware of Italy bidding. But that's the thing, the countries have to want to host and be able to afford it. It's why we're seeing more and more joint hosts, it's very expensiveMametz said:fenaddick said:

Mainly because the bribes to win are so astronomical1

We also have enough grounds with big capacities to stage the tournament.Mametz said:fenaddick said:

Anyone see the guy on Sky reporting from Miami as the England plane touched down?
He was so excited. His next report was from the hotel where he reported on the rain - that too was a moment of high intensity. I'm not sure he'll survive to the first game.

I’m flying to America next week, starting in Chicago…the first of ten cities on my trip.
Yes, there will be parts of it that will be a ballache, too expensive, too hot, too corporate etc.
But it’s an event that comes around every four years, and life’s too short to find the negative in everything.Bring it on.20 -
For the amount of dough it's costing you I hope you have a bloody good time.cafctom said:I’m flying to America next week, starting in Chicago…the first of ten cities on my trip.
