England poor tonight. Too much playing themselves into trouble by fannying about at the back and missed passes backwards and sideways. Play offs for us.

If you can’t get past trying to compare women’s football to the equivalent level of men’s football then it’s probably not for you.

In the history of organised football it's pretty much a brand new mass participation sport outside of the US. It will of course be miles behind the men's game on time alone.

I find the comparisons ie top English goalscorers of all time patronising and meaningless as there's no comparison with elite men's football.

However it is a fledgling game comparatively and will just take time to improve to a higher standard

Women and girls haven't had the opportunity to play football outside of America in the same way as men up until relatively recently and were often actively discouraged from doing so or even prohibited.

The technical quality of girls football now at Sunday league level often is way ahead of what my Sunday league level was in the 80s and i think in 20 years or so the standard of womens football will be even better.

I used to get irked with what i perceived as over promotion of womens game in the media when compared to its audience....however seeing how many girls love the game and participate themselves on a mass level makes me realise it was worth it. My daughter was so inspired by the lionesses and even more recently so with Sophie Whitehouse's heroics and she's barely out of her football kit these days or without a football as are all her mates.

I think women's game will progress like African players eg a bit of a joke/ way off 40 years ago but now a dominant and abundant presence in the game due to provision of opportunity and structured opportunity frameworks which has allowed potential to be realised.

TLDR Don't compare to men's game and give it time and it will improve.


Ps does anyone know how I'd go about getting a signed picture of Sophie Whitehouse for my daughter as I'm not on Social media?

You are allowed to just not watch it, rather than try and belittle the game.

Like the vast majority of guys I chat too, they don't watch women's football. Look at our crowds for it and at giveaway prices too.

Was at the match in Mallorca. Spain have now added a lot of physical strength to their technical excellence. The quality of their movement and passing remains way above other national teams. Clearly either team would get thrashed by our under 18 boys but that is totally irrelevant. Most people don’t compare the likes of Keely Hodgkinson, Dina Asher-Smith or Lauren Price to their male peers but for traditional male team sports there’s a really ‘stay in your lane’ feeling about a lot of comments.
