Named by FIFA to officiate during the World Cup, the Somali referee 🇸🇴 Omar Artan was denied entry to U.S. territory

Due to his difficulties in obtaining a visa, he had benefited from the support of the Somali embassy in Nairobi, which notably enabled him to obtain a diplomatic passport

Insufficient for the American authorities, who immediately sent him back...

Would love FIFA to prove me wrong and step in. This world cup is a shambles. I've never been more disinterested in a world cup.
I don't believe FIFA gets to govern USA policies.
You are absolutely right about that. However FIFA should not award the World Cup  to countries that have such arbitrary regulations. If a country wants the honour of hosting the World Cup, they should give assurances that they will accept the credentials of FIFA appointed officials.
Much as I hate being fair to FIFA, the US didn't have such arbitrary regulations when they were awarded the tournament. They've effectively refused to abide by assurance a previous government agreed to, and done it so late that FIFA have very little alternative but to go along with it. Infantino humiliated FIFA by offering that peace prize to try to keep relations friendly, and this is his reward.

France have done the same, had their last friendly against Northern Ireland on Monday in Lille

They are flying out there today.
I was listening to 5 Live in the car recently and they were discussing France setting off late. Apparently part of it is they left late for a couple of tournaments where they did very well so it's become a bit of a superstition not to travel early.

I think it makes total sense .

Don't know how much credence there is to this, just saw it on a Facebook post:

"I am in NYC now and they are giving away free tickets hand over fist. It's clearly not sold well and they don't want half empty stadia on the TV."

Stoke will never be allowed to host a world cup match if a bit of adverse weather stops a game

Nonsense - Stoke has a wonderful temperate north west European climate.

This isn’t at a World Cup stadium though and is in a different climate to the vast majority of the host cities

Exactly. Other places just have tornados, wild fires and  earthquakes that could prove a problem.

FIFA despise England - probably more jealousy than anything else.

We are one of the few countries, maybe the only one, that could host a World Cup at 6 months notice. I firmly believe that, like The Open is played at the home of golf every 5 years or so, the World Cup should be played at the global home of football every 20 years or so. To have only hosted it once in nearly 100 years is a disgrace.

We don’t have the cash to bribe them like Qatar and Russia more like. Agreed - look at Euro 2020. England could host a tournament tomorrow.

These are my final predictions...until I change my mind later today. An all Iberian final. Spain to win it all. England to the semi-finals on a largely easy path. Japan and Turkiye dark horses. It's all a bit chalk I think, but I also think with such a large field it's going to be chalk for the group stage and first round or two.
    Please, what is 'chalk'?

Edit: ignore me, just looked it up. How can I have got this old without having heard that before?

    (I'm 87, you know)
I follow yank sports, I'm in my fifties and I've never heard it either 😂
I’ve mainly heard it used on March Madness brackets
Ah, that explains it. I've never followed basketball really - because it's shite.

It’s a disgrace. And what did UEFA do when shit hit the fan during their 2020 experiment when covid hit, looked straight to us to save them.

    Wankers.

We couldn’t host it within Fifa’s silly requirements. We simply don’t have the grounds big enough because some (like Anfield) don’t fit regulation and you can only have one city that has two stadiums. Four of the stadiums you’d want to use are in London. Outside of that you’re left with Old Trafford, Villa Park and St James Park. That isn’t enough infrastructure for Fifa’s rules

    I'm being facetious. A bit... 🤣

The modern game leaves me cold, but I can appreciate it for what it was a few decades ago. No argument that it's definitely bobbins now though

Is that true about 2 grounds per city? How many cities does Qatar have?

And Infantino’s only scheduled press conference has so far reached 20 minutes without him taking a single question from the floor

By having the 2030 tournament played on 3 continents (Europe, Africa and S America), FIFA can go to Saudi Arabia, just 8 years after Qatar. Genius really.

It's the press reporters that should be asking the questions.
