Im fine with hydration breaks. Just make them 1 minute long and tell tv companies that they cannot show ads.4

Am running a campaign for a client throughout the tournament... If the players can have an xG ranking, then I figured that the managers should have something too....hence the xC (expected cliche) ranking.. If you're a fan of soundbites and seeing who the most original communicator of the tournament is, go have a quick look here: https://expectedclichetracker.com/ Thanking you.

1 minute is quite enough, as it's meant to be a hydration break, not a time out for the coaches to change tactics.cafcnick1992 said:Im fine with hydration breaks. Just make them 1 minute long and tell tv companies that they cannot show ads.
Adverts are down to local TV. I remember watching games in Thailand, where they showed adverts at any tiny gap, e.g. before a corner.0 -

A fine line in gobbledygook there Charlie.

Fifa seeks explanation over VAR official's hand gesture
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cy9rd8g1lwzo
Definite deliberate gesture when you watch the video. Also he glances to one of his colleagues near the end of the clip, so is he warning there's an issue with his colleague? Colleagues are not named in this report.
But who knew it was a white supremacy sign? (since later 2010s apparently, BBC says 2017)- not me, but that's an aside in the circumstances.
On the whole i'd say VAR has had plenty of good games so far, not getting over involved, if barely at all, in contrast to what we are used to. My frivolous view is they missed the attention, but this is deserving of a closer look.

It's a perfectly reasonable comment actually, I wish more people in positions of power in football spoke up about how shit it is.AddicksAddict said:Supposed comment by boss of UEFA:
”We have a huge number of matches that are completely uninteresting.”
Now, we may think that, although the supporters of those countries most definitely won’t and it’s a dreadful comment by someone in his position.
We already had minnows qualifying for the world cup with 32 teams, 48 is ludicrous and just a cash grab, and judging by how empty the stadiums have been so far, not a great one at that0 -

FIFA don't give a shit about the stadium attendance. Extra matches means extra tv revenuesam3110 said:

His comments miss out context and so does your defence of him.sam3110 said:

Curacao and Haiti, for example, are only really in because there were 3 CONCACAF automatic qualifiers due to the hosts. Cape Verde outperformed Cameroon to qualify, Uzbekistan went unbeaten in the second phase of (the incredibly complex) Asian qualifiers. The vast majority of these minnows aren't awful teams.
The games aren't empty because of the teams playing, it's because tickets are hundreds of dollars, in stadiums out of town and in a place where flights and hotels will cost thousands.
I don't like the 48 teams because it's a rubbish format and 32 teams was perfect. It doesn't automatically mean all the other sixteen teams who qualified are bad though1 -

As the tournament goes on, I am getting increasingly more optimistic about England's chances but I suppose a big part of that is the fact we haven't played yet!0
-
I've watched every game and whilst I'll admit I've not been counting empty seats, the stadiums have all looked close to capacity (apart from a game where there was an empty area of a couple of hundreds seats behind the goal, that I'm assuming were corporate and kept empty for some reason).sam3110 said:

Switzerland v Qatar is the only one I’ve noticed where there were quite a lot of empty seats0

And that was by far the worst game of the tournament so farWeegie Addick said:Switzerland v Qatar is the only one I’ve noticed where there were quite a lot of empty seats0 -
Well I'd not noticed, but if it's corporate it's usual so I've probably become immune to the norm.Elthamaddick said:

However, if any seats fill up after 15 mins, then the missing were presumably using the facilities and the tickets were sold.0 -
Nor have you seen France, Spain or Portugal in action...MuttleyCAFC said:As the tournament goes on, I am getting increasingly more optimistic about England's chances but I suppose a big part of that is the fact we haven't played yet!0 -

If Spain get their shit together straight from the jump here, this could be another 7-0/7-1 game.1

Clearest yellow you’ll ever see from Llorente. How’s the ref not even given a foul!?1

Wonder why ITV have gone for the shortened version of Spain in Spanish on the graphic, but not the shortened version of Cape Verde in Portuguese?0

Also, why do they use “ESP” for Spain but not some shortened version of Deutschland for Germany? I presume there’s some rhyme or reason.Algarveaddick said:Wonder why ITV have gone for the shortened version of Spain in Spanish on the graphic, but not the shortened version of Cape Verde in Portuguese?0 -
First time I’ve seen ITV throw to Emma Hayes during the hydration break. Fantastic use of time1

Another opportunity to listen to a woman, talking like a bloke, about football. Great!fenaddick said:First time I’ve seen ITV throw to Emma Hayes during the hydration break. Fantastic use of time0 -
If, as SE9 says, they don’t use DEU for Germany, then that’s not the case mate. I just looked it up.Pelling1993 said:
