You'll have to wait for the next set of accounts for that answer

It’s an obvious opportunity to grow revenue by selling more tickets.
The new financial rules for the coming season make it even more important.

More space to make more revenue whilst already averaging crowds currently that put us broadly mid Championship. Nice position to be in.

Or players sales - a young player having just one good season at this level can be worth £10m+.

I would suggest  good reasons why attendances are lower at some matches are due to Sky, kick-off times and long mid-week journeys. That is why comparisons are not really important to me except for income generated, and still there are moans over pricing.

another good reason is the perception of the customer of value for money

So if your pricing is achieving a range of attendances between 14k and 23k (the top end still leaving 4k seats empty) with 11 league games below 20k then that suggests ticket pricing isn’t doing its job.

A good place to start is this: It’s not even as if it’s not bleeding obvious where the bulk of those empty seats are going to be for those games when we do get more than 20k. Like the Lower North, the Lower West is a stand that’s front and centre on TV. If we price it to fill it, rather than leaving it half empty every match, it will draw others in.

I wonder how important pricing is when it falls below a certain level.

If Orient or Bromley were charging 3 pounds, I don't think I could be bothered to actually travel go to any games!

Even if Charlton offered free entry, I doubt if they could fill the ground on a long term basis unless they challenging for promotion!

I don't think people are priced out of coming, there's just not enough demand as it stands for us to sell 24k seats every home game.

Make it a tenner all season and we still won't sell out every game, and make fuck all money too

    Not true in my opinion.

The ticket price needs to be mindful of the alternative activity a person or family might spend it on.

Football is expensive now particularly if going as a family group and given the  variability in product / value then on a limited budget choices will be made.

Individually you can more easily justify the price but getting someone to go with say teenage kids and a decent view then it’s a bigger ask. Even more so than cheaper alternative activities.

Proving it too cheap devalues the product. The ticket price has to be at a sensible level to offer value for money and be mindful of the impact of supply and demand. Have 12k ST holders and allocate 3k to away fans and that leaves 12k tickets available for sale every match and an average 7k not being sold and 3k on the biggest league attendance last season - ie, everybody that wants to go to a game can leave it to the very last minute and  change their mind if they just can’t be bothered on the day. The club needs to put a dent in the available for sale numbers and STs are the way to do that. Sell enough of those and the FOMO effect of fewer match day tickets would give the club more leeway to raise those ticket prices.

pricing also needs to take into account whether a game is live on tv, scheduled transport issues/ engineering works on the day and, more importantly, the demographics of our support these days and the financial impact those fans and families are having to juggle with.

I go with my 2 kids.
My girl is 11 and free.
My boy is 13 and about £150.
I think my ticket was about £400 from memory.
So, say £550 for 72 tickets to games in a season about £7.65 per ticket.
I then take water and food in with me.

90mins entertainment (arguable for some games 🤣).  It's amazing value for families.

Less so when the kids are older. I mentioned teenagers particularly.

Also pricier on a match by match basis which is the reality for some who can’t stretch to a season ticket / don’t want the credit option.

I’m not saying Charlton are unique in this. My observation is that football is now a relatively expensive hobby compared to say the cinema / eating out etc.

Yes you can find more expensive options to compare to but you get my point.

    Spot on.

Ticket pricing is only a factor up to a point. You need the demand.

We need more awareness, visibility and calls to action in the immediate local area. Too many people don’t even know The Valley is on their doorstep.
