Reece James out for at least 2 games.Imagine Spence takes that spot. Not great at all.0
-
A back 4 of Spence, Konsa, Guehi and O'Reilly ain't winning the World Cup, that's for sure0
-
Replacing Livramento with a centre back looks even more weird now.
Reece James isn't someone you can rely on to play every game2 -
Don't worry, we've got Big Dan Byrne. He will sort out the likes of Messi, Mbappe, Haaland, etc, no problemo,0

So do we avoid Senegal now?0

Senegal scoring some cracking goals...0

The Fotmob predictor (purely based on current third place table) has us playing Senegal but no idea if that’s correctValleyGary said:So do we avoid Senegal now?0 -
I think it's Senegal as it stands but based on the projected models it will be DR Congofenaddick said:

Hope to avoid Senegal given their attacking threat. Ripping Iraq to shreds this evening...0

Significantly different or worse than the back four Argentina won with in 2022? Not sure it is.sam3110 said:A back 4 of Spence, Konsa, Guehi and O'Reilly ain't winning the World Cup, that's for sure0 -
Scotland all but out.1

France look very ominous, however, as much as it is a bit of a cliche, there is some truth in the idea that the most impressive team from the group stages often does not translate that into winning the tournament.
Not saying they would necessarily fail it, but I think the test for France is how they respond to being setback and frustrated - especially against a good side - as there is still time for those egos to start tripping over each other.
The problem for any opposition is getting in front and then keeping that sparkling attack at bay long enough to get them frustrated.0 -
Not looking good - according @Callumcafc 's chart they'll need 4 out of 6 games to go their way which seems unlikely. Will be amusing if it comes down to the England result - will it still be "anyone but England?"North Lower Neil said:Scotland all but out.

What do we need to get dr Congo?0

Just caught up on the goals - that 4th was what the word wallop was invented for. One of those ones that either arrows into the corner or goes over the roof of the stand.hoof_it_up_to_benty said:Senegal scoring some cracking goals...0 -
Bit late to this one, but am I right in thinking we can't finish 3rd in our group......unless we lose by 2 more goals than Ghana do against Croatia?
If we lose tomorrow night then we will have 4 points & Panama 3. As Ghana are playing Croatia then they both cant get 3 points. If Ghana win then they have 7 points, us 4 and Croatia 3. If it's a draw then we will have 4 points, Ghana 5 and Croatia 4......but as we beat Croatia we finish above them (no matter the GD - thanks FIFA !) And if Croatia best Ghana then they will have 6, us 4 & Ghana 4. Currently we have a +2 GD and Ghana a +1 GD.
Cant really see us losing by a 3 goal margin, with Ghana only losing by 1.
Scotland have a better chance of progressing than that all happening !!0 -
Ridiculous to have 2 players on 4 goals after 3 games.
And a nightmare for defences, as you can't double up on 2 attackers, especially with the quality elsewhere on the pitch.0 -
Down to 31 combinations now following Senegal’s emphatic win over Iraq.Callumcafc said:https://digitalhub.fifa.com/m/636f5c9c6f29771f/original/FWC2026_regulations_EN.pdf
FIFA World Cup 2026 regulations handbook, annex C lists all 495 pre-determined combinations.
Only 51 of those original 495 combinations are still possible according to this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2026_FIFA_World_Cup_knockout_stage#Combinations_of_matches_in_the_round_of_32
Only five of those 31 combinations involve Scotland qualifying.1 -
Congo to beat Uzbekistan should be enough.ValleyGary said:What do we need to get dr Congo?1 -

If Congo win 1-0 it will put them third in the 3rd place table rankings (i think).ValleyGary said:What do we need to get dr Congo?
Not sure what else needs to happen for them to stay there.
We obviously need to top our group.0 -
Presume we cant really avoid a Mexico last 16 at the Azteca. They have barely lost their since the beginning of time...think its all academic as if we get there, I am pretty sure it will end there.0

Of the 31 combinations, winner of England’s group will play:Callumcafc said:

16/31 Group K (DR Congo)
13/31 Senegal
1/31 Ecuador
1/31 Group J (Algeria)In every scenario where Group K has a best 3rd placed team, they are matched against the winner of Group L.
It makes the equation for England quite simple, assuming they take care of Panama tomorrow:
- if DR Congo win, they will be the opponent
- if they don’t, it’s highly likely to be Senegal instead (13 of 15 remaining possibilities)1 -
We could do by losing tomorrow but then we'd have PortugalDamoNorthStand said:Presume we cant really avoid a Mexico last 16 at the Azteca. They have barely lost their since the beginning of time...think its all academic as if we get there, I am pretty sure it will end there.0 -
It’s either potentially DR Congo/Senegal R32 -> Mexico R16 if we top the group, or potentially Portugal/Colombia R32 -> Spain R16 if we came second.DamoNorthStand said:Presume we cant really avoid a Mexico last 16 at the Azteca. Had a little look into this stat. No doubt they’ll be a force at home, however they’ve really not beaten the current top 10 that much at The Azteca - they are pretty formidable against mid tier opponents though.DamoNorthStand said:Presume we cant really avoid a Mexico last 16 at the Azteca. shouldn’t just roll over.0 -
I mean, we all know England are capable of dropping a bollock against almost anyone, but, while DR Congo or Algeria would be preferred, avoiding Ecuador is probably the most important one, imo. They're capable of an organised shut down similar to what Ghana did the other days and that is probably England's least favored type of game. You could very easily see Ecuador nicking it or taking it or taking it to penalties to avoid, imo. So it's good news they are unlikely to be the round of 32 opponent, assuming England do their bit and beat Panama.
@Callumcafc - who would be the likely opponents for England if they conspire to finish 2nd in the group?
Edit - ignore that question, you answered it while I was typing my post0 -
2nd in Group K, so Colombia if Portugal beat them. Portugal if Colombia get a draw or better. The next knockout round would highly likely be against Spain. So not a preferred route IMO.Exiled_Addick said:I mean, we all know England are capable of dropping a bollock against almost anyone, but, while DR Congo or Algeria would be preferred, avoiding Ecuador is probably the most important one, imo. Anyway I disagree, Molina, Romero, Otamendi and Tagliafico at the time were all in form and playing a lot for their clubs, and backed by Martinez who was having the tournament of his life.
Ours aren't all playing week in week out, and Pickford is a bang average keeper1 -
