My previous bastard neighbours who planted both a laurel hedge (the devils plant, which they let grow way past 15 feet and never cut) and bamboo along the fence between us.
Happily the people who bought the house from them had the whole lot dug out, and they replaced the old panel fence with a new better quality. However, there are now bamboo stems pushing up through my lawn. I will do my best to dig them out but if they keep coming back I am minded to sue the previous owners for a professional firm to do it thoroughly.
    I hated those bastards anyway.
That’s nothing. I’ve got a neighbour at the moment who keeps moaning about my new pizza oven at the bottom of my garden.

Dick van Dyke’s your man for getting rid of old bamboo.

South East Water. Tell us to conserve water, hosepipe ban in Kent, then when there is a leak in our village with water running down the main road like a river it takes them five days and counting to come and fix it.

Went to a lovely festival last night, got very near the front to see the lumineers,  and then a family shoved their way to the front... which I can live with... but then proceeded to talk loudly through the whole thing. Got angry when told to shut up. Arseholes.

Meaningless stats spewed out at World Cup. I’ve just read that Luka Modric became the oldest goal assist maker in WC history In game against Ghana. Am I really meant to believe someone has checked out every goal since the first WC in 1930 to see (a) who scored it (b) who assisted and (c) his age? I don’t think so.

I was there for the 3 days, thought it was great. Left before  the lumineers after seeing Amble in the big top to catch the train home. All you could smell most of the weekend was smoked meats & weed.

Yes. There are stattos whose job it is to do these things. Whether for teams, for sports bodies, for the media or for sports stats companies that sell them to the media. It will 100% have been recorded and checked a number of times.

I went to see Lewis capaldi in Exeter on Saturday night (Mrs Idle seems to like the pasty Scottish doughboy) and nobody at all shoved in front of me. Disappointed.

Google AI response to the question "do assist stats exist for the full history of the FIFA world Cup:-

1966 to Present: Data providers like Opta have fully analyzed and verified every single goal using video footage. This is why all "all-time" World Cup assist leaderboards (such as Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona sharing the record with 8 assists) explicitly carry a "since 1966" condition.

1930 to 1962: There are no official FIFA assist records for the first seven World Cup tournaments. While sports historians and statisticians have attempted to retroactively calculate assists for legends like Pelé (1958, 1962) or Raymond Kopa (1958) using old newspaper archives and scarce film reels, these are unofficial estimates and often highly contested due to incomplete footage.

That said, it's likely to be true in relation to Modric as there were no players older than Modric playing in any tournament between 1930 and 1966, after which the stats should be accurate.

She told a lad on a train to stop playing music out loud and put on headphones.

It will - but since stats like assists have actually been recorded. Unless someone is watching hours of tape and logging everything.

@ME14addick spends so much time on here annoyed and defending her corner that I was pleased for her when her  username appeared beside the 'Things that please you' thread.  A little light relef is good for everybody.

Then I read her post, only to find that she's still annoyed ... I mean, I wanted to be pleased that she was pleased and I'm generally not annoyed when she is annoyed, but I am annoyed that she is annoyed on the pleased thread  :|.

No, he moved to a different part of the train and continued to play music out loud. A sort of victory.

My wife is northern so I proceeded to give her a lesson on how not to die in London.

Last train out of victoria a few years back, packed. Bloke has his music on from his phone. Ask him to turn it down or to put headphones on. He doesn't have headphones so he won't turn it down. Argument starts.. a girl then says it's not bothering her I said well bully for you but it's bothering me. Argument continues.. Then some bloke behind starts saying can everyone just shut up whilst he tries to eat his kebab. Someone else then started up saying you got to be kidding me you've been making so much noise and some rather strange mouth actions whilst trying to tackle that gawd awful kebab. Then possibly a heavyweight boxer looking chap turns round to all of us and says could you all please be quiet. Not another sound was made, apart from kebab bloke chewing as quietly as he could.

I think you may have learnt that lesson quickly if she’d done it in the north.
