Bizarre how he's gone off the boil so much this season. His bowling has never been anything other than "5th bowler" but for him to be coming in at 9 yesterday shows how much he's struggled this year.2

Not including the overseas players, I can see at least half a dozen of our players leaving at the end of the season.
I would also be surprised if Crawley isn't one of those. We haven't had to pay him in the last few years but now that he won't be centrally contracted, I'm sure that there are other counties that will be happy to offer a lot more than we are capable or willing to do for a player with career averages of 31.49 (FC), 27.09 (T20) and (not that it matters given his commitments in that other competition) 32.68 in 50 over cricket. The Surrey Road would be an ideal vehicle for him to improve on those stats.2 -
In First Class cricket, he's only ever hit one hundred in 94 innings and averages 30.48. Admittedly, a lot of those have been when he's been batting in the lower middle order but he's even struggled in the shortest form of the game. I also suspect that the "final nail in the coffin", so far as the relationship between Club and player is concerned, was that humiliating substitution which, along with being sent out on loan, must have given him every indication that he was regarded as surplus to requirements with us.killerandflash said:Bizarre how he's gone off the boil so much this season. All of that said, I do think that there is a cricketer and perhaps a fresh start and working with Matt Walker will help him. And for that matter Leaning too.
It's strange to think that, once upon a time, we would have been looking at the discards from Sussex but now it's almost like a "swap shop" between us given we took on Foreman this season.1 -
Leaning has been in absolutely shambolic form bar one ton against Warwickshire. Technique looks all over the place for a senior pro that was supposed to solidify our middle order.Addick Addict said:

When you say "Hundred players" you can't mean Muyeye. I've heard that he is having an op to remove splinters. That's not the first time that's happened to him either and the county isn't directly compensated for his loss either.MrOneLung said:We will be ok once

In the last 11 months Muyeye has only played 12 competitive games of cricket for Kent. Of the other two, Billings only plays in the Blast and Crawley has opted out of playing in the CC in each and every one of the last seven years, even when not playing for England.

I hope I'm not wrong but I believe that Ekansh will be with is for a few years yet. Both Cox and Robinson left because they were behind Billings with the gloves and in the case of Robinson not even in the T20 side. Both were then guaranteed places at Essex and Durham respectively. Ekansh has got himself into the side in all formats and only playing when Surrey's superstars are away won't aid his development. He's only just 20, is contracted for another two years and should we gain promotion then he will be even better placed.
On the financial front, in the last few years we've had quote a few of the senior and bigger earners retire/leave namely the likes of Stevens, Cox, Leaning, Gilchrist, Robinson, Evison and Joe Denly (plus Billings reduced to Blast only) and I would rather that we used the money saved to offer renewed and improved contracts to a few of our promising youngsters rather than on someone like Crawley who, at the age of 28, has had plenty of opportunities to prove himself.2 -
A lot of out of contract players at the end of the season will have already been told whether they are being released and/or may agreed terms with another county. Not all of those have been made known to the public as yet but we can't afford right now to tell all of those that they are wanted for the rest of the season. Who knows, the fact that it is now in the public domain that he is leaving might allow Evison to play with some freedom now. He is still a professional cricketer at the end of the day.killerandflash said:

Already gone to Hampshire with probably a hefty pay rise. Price/Evison for the 4th seamer role now along with whatever seam attack we can cobble together from the academy and the injury hit Sean Hunt and Dom Goodman , supposedly Blake Cullen is coming in from Middlesex.Addick Addict said:
