The top order really struggled to get it away, so I assume the pitch is really aiding the new ball bowlers.

Just got overpowered. The total wasn't anywhere near enough.

The Kent squad that has travelled to Preston for tomorrow’s Metro Bank match v Lancs.

Fred Klaassen is recovering from a hamstring injury. I’m sure he’d be in that squad otherwise.

The first competitive game at Farington I think, which is a brand new ground built by Lancashire as a new base when OT is unavailable.

Lancs won the toss and put Kent in. One change - and one I feared we might have to make - Milnes rested and Dudgeon returning.

Stream not working. Farington is twinned with Gillingham  when it comes to communications!

Dawkins, the first victim at this ground, something he'll have forever  :D

For such an attacking player, Dawkins has really gone into his shell playing in the Metro this season. His scores have been 5 off 12 (including 10 dots), 9 off 34 (including 29 dots) and today 4 off 13 (including 12 dots).

There's nothing wrong with playing yourself in but 18 runs off 59 balls (effectively a whole power play and with only 8 scoring shots) suggests that he isn't at one with his game. He could do with that one decent score to get himself going but, perhaps, needs to change the mindset because he is, by nature, someone who is at his best when he is on the front foot.

You would know much better than me AA but I wonder if the England stuff is hampering him a bit? He hasn't really had a settled run in any format for a while and he's bouncing between different coaching staff who might be giving him different steers.

His England ton was in a 50 over match, so he ought to be feel comfortable in this format.

My word, this is slow scoring once again. Feels like the last game all over

It could well be that. His poor run of form actually started before the Metro. Following an excellent 44 and 118*, his subsequent scores have been 8, 5, 19, 0 & 13 for the England U19s followed by 5, 9 and 4 for Kent in the Metro.

The one thing that is noticeable about his career is that once he gets going he does go big. There are many comparisons being made between him and Crawley, style and physique wise, but I'd like to think that his technique is the more solid of the two.

We have to remember that he is still only 19 and that at that age is more vulnerable to doubts creeping in. In some respects, though, it might be better for him to go out and hit 25 and out off 12 balls at the outset than what is happening to him at the moment which is a bit a of a slow death. There is someone probably better qualified to hold an end up waiting in the wings (Compton) who is better at being the "glue" but that really isn't Dawkins game at present and I would struggle to believe that this mode of batting is being asked of him.

It was but following that he played two Test matches in which he scored 5 (12), 19 (60), 0 (1) and 13 (40). That's 37 runs off 113 balls in four innings. It's almost as if he's then gone back to 50 over cricket but with a Test match mentality.
