If ever there was time for a siege mentality - this is it.
weve worked our bolocks off to get to this level and we need to do our part to make sure the club retains it.51 -

Asking for £80m would be mentalDesmond Oulu said:I don't necessarily think this is new news. When the £20m investment was first sought, there was an article which said we have asked MSD bank to find investors. They weren't the only ones. We had asked a fuckload of people in the banking/sports finance industry to get investment. As you do in something that is heavily commision-based. I know the director of one company that was asked, and he told me that as well as seeking £20m for 20%, the owners would also entertain offers for the whole shebang. Albeit he said there was no way we were worth £80m. My thoughts are that someone in this Oakwell group are merely passing on that same info.3 -
What potential do you mean? In the Championship we will be losing what, 15-20m per year?follett said:Well this is far from ideal.
The club has so much potential though, let’s hope any potential owners see that and we get someone decent and willing to invest
If we want to be challenging for promotion we need to spend even more on transfer fees.
I don't blame these or any owners that don't fancy that. Its well known Methven sold it to them with a ridiculously optimistic turnaround plan.
The business of football is a joke these days.3 -
Hilarious if accurate. What on earth did they think they were getting into?Swisdom said:I know it’s easy to say in theory…but if you’re a billionaire then a few extra million is like you or I spending another £20 on something. It’s fly dirt.
So it’s worth more than when they bought it - fair enough. But one extra step up and it’s worth £10x more.
just seems strange to bail now. It’s almost as though they didn’t do the research on what it costs once you get to The Championship.
I was asked a year ago if i knew anybody who might be interested in buying into the club - not necessarily outright but that was also on the table as an option.Apparently one of the owners looked at Scienza of Southampton and asked “why we don’t have someone like that”
when he was told he would need to cough up around £10m and £50k a week he went very quiet. I figured then that this present arrangement would not last long.9 -
That's what they valued it at when the investment call went out. Now we have survived our first season back, they may want more. FWIW the director I mentioned valued us at £47.5m-£52.5m if we stayed up...which we did.fenaddick said:

What we need is stability Sam not another set of owners (apart from the 10% chance they are really good).
Terrible timing for this to break too.2 -
Based upon the last 10 years or so who can blame the fans for being so pessimistic….we nearly lost our clubsam3110 said:The outpouring of "we're doomed" "we're going down" "we're fucked" "we're skint" "Jones is gonna walk" "no wonder players want to leave/won't sign new contracts" in the past hour has just confirmed to me that there's a lot of Charlton fans on here that revel in misery and chaos, and can't wait to see the worst in everything2 -
Welcome back Roland we've missed you.1

The owners have got to be careful not to pull back all investment in the team. It’s a lot easier to sell a team that is competing in the championship- doesn’t have to be chasing the playoffs, but does have to be a team not embroiled in a relegation scrap. If the owners pull back all investment now and leave us with loans and frees for the remainder of the window, then there’s a very real chance they’ll be trying to sell an unattractive league one club who have to get out of that league once again. If they have any understanding about the game and aren’t just a bunch of wealthy businessmen that have made a silly purchase, they should be doing all they can to help us stay up this season and protecting their investment and hope of a decent sale price10

If I’d had it I would certainly have published it myself. I didn’t but the fact that they were approaching people to try to sell the club isn’t new.Bedsaddick said:
Did you leak it ? If not who ?Airman Brown said:The only “event” here is the leaking of a document. There hasn’t been a new decision to sell.15 -
Look at it across 4 different posts on here, so many comments about how we're already relegated or "no wonder players aren't signing new contracts" the hyperbole is absolutely insaneAFKABartram said:

Can see a few players wanting out after this news2

£80m would cover their costs with a little bit of profit. I know that’s what they’re asking for and I get why buts it’s naive. Then again, who thought TS could get £15m for us?Desmond Oulu said:

I’m in the top 5% of happy clappers and I currently feel like I want to throw upsam3110 said:The outpouring of "we're doomed" "we're going down" "we're fucked" "we're skint" "Jones is gonna walk" "no wonder players want to leave/won't sign new contracts" in the past hour has just confirmed to me that there's a lot of Charlton fans on here that revel in misery and chaos, and can't wait to see the worst in everything
Of course we need to wait and see and not jump to conclusions but the timing of this is just not good for the mind11 -
Save your £5. You might need it to help buy the club when a "fans consortium" is launched !Charlton43 said:That Cawley Substack about to come in handy

Well if that’s the case then may as well fold now and be done with football.balham red said:

no twat is making a profit out of us ever
its just loss making , get to the prem and you will have to spunk fortunes to stay there as much as the money that comes in and more .
expect to lose , only come in if you’re prepared to burn your money and have an ego trip (a shit one really )
fucking clowns
pretty obvious with the guffageness of this window
thanks , for your time now fuck off and let’s get someone who wants to spend longer than 5 mins here .

At least it’s pretty hard to be sold to another bunch of chancers. The current owners can’t flog us cheap and keep the stadium/training ground etc. if they want their money back then they are probably looking close to 50 mil. No chancers are paying that. I cannot see them getting an offer to make it viable.4

Nows the time as a fanbase to keep the positivity up in the ground12

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, someone wanted it out there. Could be all sorts of motives for that.FishCostaFortune said:

Along will come the next set of fruit loops and the usual fawning over whoever owns us will begin
Groundhog Day
load of bollox
if you own us you’re losing money
we have minimal support , we’re not a big club
just accept you’re gonna have to dig deep and spunk dough to see any success6 -
WTF brilliant timing, no wonder these "billionaires" aren't supporting NJ, Come on Jones we gave you a few million last year what do you mean you want to buy more players ? Well I've only read the first article, 6 pages to go through but while this lot have kept us turning over I've never been convinced about their intentions. They're obviously not crooks but I've never had the feeling that they were really "all in". Better pour myself a big drink & get reading.

Fuck's sakes.
Well, here's to hoping our future owners care about the club and are willing to invest big time.
Ain't gonna lie, I'm a bit nervous for the new season now.
