Charlton back up for sale - Guardian article comment from Gavin Carter p18

Just because we haven't bought any decent midfielders yet, it doesn't necessarily mean that the owners haven't given NJ enough funds this summer anyway.
Players aren't just looking for money, the style of football is also important, and our "direct" football last season hardly sells us to better midfielders.
Galbraith last summer would have found Swansea a LOT more appealing than us for football reasons, even without the probable salary difference.2 -
Gave up reading 5-6 pages ago. Which pretty much sums up my feelings about this (and other sites/social media) for the club at the moment. Time for a break.2

Are we good enough to stay up with our current squad?0

I get it but nobody is sharing a transcript or a recording (and I’d remove from here if they did). I’m sure Rich is aware this would happen, it’s still well worth subscribing for this 20 min chat and all the other content.robroy said:I appreciate the sound bites, but isn’t that a tad bad on Cawley? He needs people to pay to listen not post what’s said on here.
If it’s only £5 a month, that’s under a pint.Not having a dig at anyone btw.
Or people can wait for the directors q&a which will cover the same topics I’m sure.

Are Charlton going to have new owners soon? Brener & Friedman have been looking for help/an exit for ages. They’ve got a new broker They’re looking for £50m+ but there are lots of clubs on market (that don’t involve dealing w/ Duchatelet!). Non-binding bids due next week.

what a joke1 -
£50m would most likely represent a loss for them4

So in the end everybody was kind of right. They're looking for investors or a takeover overall. Bids apparently due next week. Wouldn't be surprised if that gets pushed back given they've been at this for a year or so apparently.SELR_addicks said:

The question becomes what happens if they don't get bids, especially no bids for further investment (because I don't think they're going to get takeover bids)? Will they continue to invest in the squad this summer and beyond? Only time will tell.0 -
This guy's getting boring now, a template letter. Context still missing. Come on, do better than that.
Let's go with the £50m figure - I could see that being the 100% target price for a partial sale; so a 20% investment would have a target price of £10m. Fair enough.
95% of clubs are permanently for sale if the right price comes along, I'm not seeing anything new here.
We'll soon find out what plays out.5 -
Bids due next week does explain the timing of the Guardian story and suggests the pitch deck might be being passed around more because of the deadline10
-
So valuing the football side at 50M + 50M for the training ground/stadium which is 100M overall. No investors in their right mind will value the club at that2

Assume that it might have been a load of cobblers.mendonca said:
I remember him saying we were very close to appointing a CEO in the last 'meet the directors'. Assume that fell through too?sam3110 said:Doesn't think having no CEO has hurt us, so they're not concerned that they haven't filled it yet, but they're still looking for one

With the oddities of WSL football finance, how much do we think the women’s promotion has maybe increased the urgency of this sale?1

It might have lessened our transfer budget on what matters most, the mens team.

It’s brought £4m or so into the club so I doubt itElfsborgAddick said:TeeC said:With the oddities of WSL football finance, how much do we think the women’s promotion has maybe increased the urgency of this sale?

I said something similar the other day about the club should update us about long term injuries (Edwards) & some wanker accused me of attacking Cawley for making moneyHenry Irving said:Charlton Fan Advocates·2hNo direct quotes but Rich was briefed by the club for this story

Confirms that Cawley was briefed by the club as suspected which is fine but the club does also have its own press team and media outlets it could, and IMHO still should, use.

Surely the bottom line is the existing owners apparently have the means to invest more if they chose to but (understandably) don’t want to.But for some reason think they can persuade others to chip in because it’s such an attractive financial opportunity and not just a short term vanity project to play at being a football club owner.Let’s get real - They want others to share the cost or buy them out at not too great a loss.6
-
Would love to say that’s correct but don’t believe the figure is anywhere near that. A £65M deal over five years for the total WSL was announced in 2024.fenaddick said:

They won’t get the 50million they’re asking for1

Can you narrow it down a bit?charltonbob said:

Could be half the people on here.9 -
Is there any indication yet as to how crucial the next two weeks are going to be?7
-
Yeah I may have misremembered. I've had a mooch through a few WSL teams accounts over the last few years and broadcast revenue for non UEFA teams and I've found numbers of 500k, 750k & 1.7m which is quite broad. None of them are insignificant and will cover the transfer costs of the Women's team easily but I will put myself in finance jail for the night nonetheless!Weegie Addick said:

So as Carter said, all businesses have a price, and if someone matches it, then cool0
