Charlton Athletic are reportedly weighing up a surprise move for Silkeborg winger Callum McCowatt as Nathan Jones looks to add creativity and attacking depth ahead of the new season.
Sources close to the club suggest Charlton's recruitment team have been monitoring the 27-year-old New Zealand international for several months, impressed by his versatility across the forward line and his experience in Scandinavian football.

Also, when one of their clients is entering the new contract negotiations phase, any agent worth their salt will want to create interest in the market (or at least the illusion of it), even if only to strengthen their hand when negotiating with the player’s existing club. If you can find a club that needs to give the impression they’re being active and ambitious in the market, despite not actually having any dosh, with which you can collude, all the better. TC, Lloydy, Ramsay all very well could move on and they all did enough last year to get decent Championship gigs. However, as others have said, so many chess pieces get moved during these negotiations and there’s lots of parties with competing priorities that use public noise to further their agendas, that none of it means much in isolation.I’d be equally unsurprised if they all left by next summer or all signed new deals.2 -

Some good news on the contract renewal front would certainly provide a morale boost going into the new season.
Will TC continue to improve? We don't know. So offering him a new contract is a gamble.
However, it's a punt that I would like to see the club make; especially due to the cost it would involve to get someone with the same potential as he has which many other clubs at our level would also be after, therefore inflating the cost.
I would also like Lloyd and Kayne to be signed up too, but TC is the one that is key given that we have ambitions of becoming a more attacking force this season.3 -
Have to admit, despite being a long term fan and proponent of Leaburn, I am a bit concerned that the injuries have taken half a yard of pace away from him that a striker needs at this level. I very much hope Miles adapts to that but I am half expecting Mbick to overtake him in the pecking order this season.
However, I also think Godden is going to be really motivated to have a big impact in the Championship for Charlton. I think he’ll feel he has unfinished business after missing so much of last season. I know he’s getting on but his game is so much about his pure nouse which I just feel is hitting it’s absolute peak as he matures. If his body can still get him around the pitch fast enough, and he stays fit, I just have this feeling that he might have the best season of his career at this level.
With Kelman, who definitely seemed to be growing into it last season, to come back, I have hope that our striker options might be a bit better than they perhaps appear at first glance. Fingers crossed anyway3 -
In a fucked-up logic kind of way - Mbicks injury may actually have come at the right time because it means we still have his contract and the £5m fee agreed with Brighton will probably look like chicken feed in 6 months. I reckon Brighton were being aggressive because they could see his value will only go one way now.

It's worth remembering that Campbell and Apter are both still young players, 22 and 23 respectively and just 6 months apart. We can sometimes forget that given they've been around a while, but most players peak mid-late 20s. Neither is the finished article yet, of course.wmcf123 said:

As @Berkshire1970 said above.....I'd rather take £3m now & use that money on a proper Right winger.
Alli has played on the right a fair bit in his career. So I think we can have a new right winger and Alli on the right, Grant and TC on the left
No reason why we can’t keep TC and also sign a new right winger. £3m won’t get you much anyway, which is why we are probably looking at the loan market for the winger position anyway
A good loan for Apter in league 1 could then mean he’s ready to step into our squad next season and replace the loan RW we have this seasonIf we lose TC then yes we will probably have to keep Apter around. If we could keep TC though, then Apter can go to league 1 and hopefully regain his confidence before he has another go at the championship
Campbell had a good game - from the left - on Saturday, and looked confident. He does seem to be adding goals to his game. Apter was signed because Jones believed he could step up - he may not, but let's see if he gets given time to develop.
For what it's worth, I think selling Campbell over retaining him for a fair Championship salary will be something we'd go on to regret.6 -

If Mbick lives up to the hype we won’t have him long. Just need to hope we can get a fee that sets us up for a climb into the middle/upper portion of the championship.1

stand-by for actionPlay him and he does well - face a fight to keep him in January.Don’t play him because he’s maybe not quite ready for week to week Championship action yet, then the one thing in our favour that might keep him here until the summer, i.e. first team football, is taken away.Play him now but it’s a little too early, and risk setting back his development as we did with, for example, Karlan Grant.
I’d probably give him his chance sooner than later and hope we can at least drive his value up, as you say, with a few good performances in the Championship, but not sure we’ll see him start for a while unless he’s so good it becomes impossible not to start him. Mbick for Godden may well become a standard 60 - 70 minute sub for the first dozen games or so.0 -
