Decent performance. Wobbled a bit for 20mins in the first half, but all round it was promising.
probably being controversial but I think we are going to need another striker and the way our full backs got overloaded at times was a worry, but all in all 2 points more than I expected4 -

Really decent win, though Chalobah & Koumetio looked good additions. We were 100 times better once TC switched over to the left too.
Some positions need some figuring out still, but we’ve given ourselves some breathing space for that.5 -
Didn’t watch the game but sounds like we weren’t brilliant but battled well. Derby are a decent team though and a win against them is a great result and start to the season4

Fairly even game with both teams having spells of dominance. Thought we were going to let one in at the death but defence (all 7 of them) stood firm.
Leaburn looks stronger than last season & impressed with his hold up play. McNamara looks a decent player & was also impressed with Alli when he came on.
I rightfully will get pelters for my comments about TC in the match thread but if he can do that every game I'm happy to be proved wrong. Still think NJ has a problem as neither TC nor Grant look happy on the right & if we do bring in a RW then who does NJ drop ?
Can't believe we did a "golfie" in our first match. That & TC scoring with his left I'll have little to moan about as the weeks go on.21 -
No stream so listened to goals going in on Talksport. HT felt a bit grumpy, but as we equalised I felt calm. When they announced a goal at the Valley, as usual my nerves shredded, only here is was TC. 8 extra didn't help either, but NJ is now a seasoned manager at this level and in him I have to trust! 3 lovely points is just fantastic. Please guys, you know who you are, get those contracts signed.1

What a way to win the 1st game of the season, a season every feckin pundit has predicted relegation for us.
Playing better football, winning from going a goal down, having more of the ball and keeping possession all against a team who had a strong season last time out.
All the things we've asked for from last season, happening in our first game. May that continue!
Yes we had a couple of wobbly moments, and could of done better in attacking situations, but that will happen for a couple of games whilst we get to grips with the league, new players and formation.
TC was superb, and maybe, just maybe, this is the season it all comes together for the lad. I really hope so, for his and our sakes.
My god that was a brilliant moment when the final whistle went, and we've started with a win! GET IN!!!

At the game. Thought we were decent enough value for the win, not being massively better than Derby but still observably so. Last ten minutes or so felt like we were clinging on a little bit. I think once they've had time to gel as a squad a bit more, the silly mistakes and mis-passes will reduce. There's the makings of a good team in there I think.Ref was mostly rubbish, but thankfully I think the pressure turned him into a bit of a homer for the last 15 or so 😆Also slightly disappointed Mannion didn't have a punt at a goal at the end when it was wide open!4

Well that was a great watch. Absolutely love the Valley when it's like that!
Struggled a little first half and looked like Carey was a bit off the pace I'm the middle. They didn't have much of the ball initially but grew into the half. Some initial early season rustyness on show for sure with a couple poor touches.
We looked a lot better after the subs and with TC on the left. He had their right back on toast and honestly we should have made more of it and fed him in lots of 1v1 situations. Excellently taken goal from him too. And with his left. Maybe we keep him on the right until the transfer window closes? Godden battled hard but with those CB's Leaburn was just a better match up.
Grant with 2 Excellent balls in to the box for the first goal.
Coventry looked so much better with Chalobah's movement creating space for him to pass into. Saw him make more forward passes today than it felt like he made in the whole of last season.
Only other thing to mention is that run and ball into the box from Mesik. Amazing from a LB playing at RWB.16 -

That was a monumental effort and we will need more of that , lack of skill more than made up for with heart and endeavour …. Didn’t see us getting a goal never mind two but LJ is always a threat and TC has that magic in his boots every so often , great work from Leaburn for the goal too .
My man of the match scum fella McNamara brilliantly solid performance, I’m sure we’ll knock that out of him !

Massive to start the season well. If we lost today, then with a probable defeat at West Ham followed by defeat at Spurs, we'd go into the Preston game with 0 points, and after 3 defeats.
Instead we now have a nice buffer, which will take the pressure of West Ham as well.5 -
Started well, had a 15 minute wobble where we looked very easy to get behind and conceded, but wrestled back control and were well worth the win by the end.
Some stand out items of note:
Last season we’d have lost, or got a point at best. We still didn’t create loads of clear sights on goal or force a ton of saves, but you can see there’s a bit more about us going forwards and I really hope scoring more than once will become a regular thing again.
Mannion had a decent game. Mostly made the right decisions on when to stay and when to come and saved what he had to. I’m not convinced Okonkwo is that much better and feels like a “whatever is available” type signing rather than a well thought out and scouted target. Maybe I’m wrong about that and NJ has rated and wanted him for a while, but if Mannion can stay confident and decisive (like he was in League One), we maybe don’t need to rush into signing another keeper and can make sure we get a true upgrade.
They couldn’t handle TC. Partly a factor of him being played in his best position, once him and Karlan switched, but partly because he looks to have been working hard on being more effective when going on the outside. He put in 2 or 3 good balls with his left and that finish, with his weaker foot, was so top drawer it was actually sat on top of the drawer unit in a display case. His play today totally negated Derby’s plan of showing him outside and even when they doubled up on him he still had the better of it. If that’s a sign of things to come he’s going to be a massive weapon because how do teams stop him? Crucially, now, if teams do double and triple up on him, we have other players who can exploit the space that creates.Decent starts from most of the new boys. Koumetio looks just a touch chaotic but in an aggressive, all action kind of way. Tough intro to the Championship from him against Morris but he fought a good battle and probably came out ahead on a split points decision. Chalobah is a step up and adds a lot to the midfield - just classy calm competence. Grant got an assist and looked what he is - an established Championship player.
Perhaps more importantly than the new boys doing well, though, was a number of the players we hope/need to have grown and developed, after a year in this division, looked like they have done exactly that. Coventry was the same defensively-aware ball-recycling pressing machine, but there were a few more decisive and progressive passes, in particular one beauty of a through ball inside the full back to TC. TC I’ve already mentioned, and Miles came on and showed the usual “good touch for a big man” but also threw his weight around better and looked, to me, a bit quicker over the ground again. Maybe still not as quick as before the injuries but certainly much less sluggish and lumbering - not least as he burst clear for the second goal. A full preseason looks to have done him some good.Overall, not all last season’s issues are gone (unrealistic to expect they would be) but some encouraging signs of progression.A very good way to start the season. Now to catch West Ham cold and make it a brilliant start.15 -

Solid win. Wasn’t overly impressed first half. Thought we looked slow and tentative in attack. Much better second half, where we deserved the win.
Initial thoughts:
Godden on his own in the middle doesn't work in this system. Grant or Leaburn instead perhaps. Leaburn was brilliant when he came on - get the ball to his feet! Play it through to him, on the ground, not lumping it up to him.
Excellent ball through from Coventry.JRC put a decent shift in when he came on.
TC has to play on the left and like it or not, he’s by far our most creative and attacking threat. Build the front around him. Sign him up. Coach him.
Mannion solid and a nice grab at the end.
McNamara was very good. Koumetio inconsistent, Bell poor defensively. We desperately need Edwards back or just start Mesik.3 -
We also have Kelman, Ramsay and Edwards coming back from injury, and Ouma getting up to speed. Most of whom will be starters. Plus newcomers to English football getting up to speed.6
