We need to get that left back / wing back sorted out asap. Bell isn’t mobile enough to play there and got found out a few times. Against one of the really good teams he’ll get slaughtered. Hope we’re not having to play him there at West Ham.4

Good win in the humid heat and especially coming from behind. Hitting the ball long to Godden was frustrating but then we started to play and looked decent. Big shout to Chalobah he is a beast, TC class on the left, love bell as a defender but I think Mesik would offer more going forward, Leaburn was class as well.Noticed a fan on the stretcher when I left the West Stand hope whoever it is, is ok 🙏5

Well done to CC today,he knows he is under some pressure for his place( we are assuming) but done really well. The idea of him moving on didn’t really concern me however he may be one of those better the devil you know scenarios, one game I know but I’m less keen to see him go over some others, Chalobah seems a good pairing for him.8

Believe that may be the first Golfie since Burton (H), the last home league game of the promotion season.
And only our third league win while conceding a goal since then (Sheff Wed (H) and Hull (H) the only instances last season).10 -
Bloody brilliant start. Would have been happy with a draw. At a wedding so was sneakily watching on the now tv app. Think TC will turn it on this year. Well in boys. UTFA.7

Calling a game we’ve won after going behind, a ‘golfie’, should be a bannable offence.

Leaburn was excellent when he came on game changer.27

Maybe helps having someone more experienced and better on the ball alongside him.Chunes said:
He was great and positive in his passing. Still has a point to prove but looks more comfortable in this formation and hopefully he's even improved on the past few seasons. The Red Robin said:

Coventry my MoM, was literally everywhere.

A really good start. For me, its noticeable that we are a much better team than last season. Where's the TC haters now ?! - a sublime finish - put it in the only place where he was going to score.5

Nah, completely disagree, it's funny and I like that it's unique to CL.arny23394 said:Calling a game we’ve won after going behind, a ‘golfie’, should be a bannable offence.9 -

But if you come back from the ban, is it a Golfie?arny23394 said:Calling a game we’ve won after going behind, a ‘golfie’, should be a bannable offence.

Think that game sets the standard for the league to be honest, no team will be easy but if we battle on and don’t drop our heads then there’s no reason why we won’t be an easy team to beat.Last season we didn’t win a single game when we conceded first so I feel like it’s quite a statement to have some good fight. There’s still a few concerns though and some typical Charlton moments, especially when we just don’t move, but I do feel there’s a lot of improvement in the squad and have some depth too
Ultimately happy with the game and the performance, but 8 minutes of extra time when they’re trying to speed up time wasting moments is ridiculous. Hydration breaks can do one too10 -
With Coventry, if others are doing what he can't do, it puts a greater focus on what he can do. Had a very good game today.12

Derby played some slick stuff early on and moved the ball well thru the middle.
Then they scored but sat back. They lost Szmodics and didn't look the same.
We played too many long balls down the middle to Godden which was pointless. We lacked guile.
TC switching wings transformed him and us and what a winner.
Leaburn showed that bit of nastiness smashing into their CH as soon as he came on. He also won at lot in the air and showed some neat touches.
Two academy players who some have doubted but today at least they showed what they can bring.
But my MOTM was Billy the Kid, I think he's going to be a star.
Good home atmosphere.25 -
Great win and a nice little cameo by Mesik when he came on I thought.9

Was a moment in the first half where between him and Carey they just killed the forward movement, Cov was just walking sideways with the ball when the crowd got on him, he snapped out of it and played a good forwards pass and from then he had a good game.MuttleyCAFC said:With Coventry, if others are doing what he can't do, it puts a greater focus on what he can do. Weirdly, Carey might be the weak link in that midfield.6
-
We are still lacking the pivot in midfield. Somebody who can run with. the ball and pass. Without it we rely on long balls to Godden!
I hope Ouma will be that player. For different reasons none of Carey, Costello or Knibbs are good enough in that role.
Neither TC nor Alli got any service on the right. Macnamara is not a wingback. We need somebody who can bring the wingers on both sides into play.6 -
Delighted with that, but thankful CBT didn't come on earlier for them.

Excellent win , hard fault against a very physical Derby side … not sure how the number 6 stayed on …. Lloyd Jones needs to lean he can’t do that in a back 4 as he does not have the cover like he does in a 3 .. poor mistake from Jones at a time when there was nothing in the game … going to mention Campbell cause he was awful first 30 mins and wasted 6 excellent chances to create but failed every time and this is what lets him down ….. but once he changed sides a different player second half was the Campbell we saw in league one .. had an excellent second half .Coventry was excellent , and Leaburn was up for the fight when he came on…McNamara had a very good game as well but MOM “ Billy “ what a performance that was … all in all very deserved 3 points5

Great win, some Charlton teams of yesterseason would have folded and Derby would have romped home.Don’t think LJ was at fault for the goal, think no comms from Manny didn’t help.
Derby midfield was very fluid and didn’t seem anybody was man marking. We had our usual 15 minutes of harum scareum but rode it out.LJ was head and shoulders above his marker for the goal.TC, was a thorn in Derby side all game and the goal was well taken in a crowed penalty area.
Miles is a real threat and is a great asset to put on for the final 20.
NJ got the subs spot on.
Also Jonny Robinson was sitting in the Covered End, still with that great big smile16 -
An all time hero of mine. Great to hear he was there. Don’t make wingers like him anymore.usetobunkin said:Also Jonny Robinson was sitting in the Covered End, still with that great big smile

Szmodics scores and gives it the bigun in front of a bunch of kids in the family stand, then loses
Love it.31 -
Really impressive from Nathan Jones today. He tinkered with things by moving TC over to the left and then we improved again when Grant moved into the middle and Leaburn replaced Godden. I probably wouldn't have brought JRC on but then he played a great pass for the 2nd. Then he moved to a back 5 to shore things up but we still looked threatening.
The signings look really good. Koumetio stood out but I'm excited to see more of Mesik too.12 -

You didn't see his 3 good corners or some of his movement and passes ?
He messed up his left footed shot in the area and he gave away a corner with bad control but he took up so many good positions in the box but despite going round the defender with ease, TC just couldn't find the cross to the unmarked Carey.
Sonny was in a similar position to when he did the bullet header, against Cheltenham when Alli found him with a good cross.
I thought Gooden was quiet today but being the 1 in a 4-2-3-1 isn't easy but I did think that Leaburn is stepping up in recent cameo performances.
I understand many posters have to have a player that disappoints them and Ronnie Moore has TC every week !
Great 3 points after going one down against a sweet passing team like Derby who scored a cracking 1st goal after Lloyds mistake but he made amends with his powerful header from Karlan's pin point cross.
I did predict 2-1 in the preview with more hope than conviction.
And relax.

Posting without reading…..
Leaburn was absolutely immense when he came
on today, been waiting ages for that performance, brilliant.25 -
I think we showed a lot of weaknesses today and Derby will be right down in the bottom 8, but we won and that’s all that matters. Our squad strength will be huge and we need to add to it, as well as getting the returning players fit asap. TC moving to the left was good but Leaburn replacing Godden changed the game for me. Two free hits and then a very big home game against Preston.P.S. The figure that Chalobah appears to be for TC could be absolutely huge.15

Was in the middle of writing a comment on the match thread about needing to make subs when he made the subs, never seemed to happen last season and they were right on time today.Leeds_Addick said:Really impressive from Nathan Jones today.
