    The subs, even when Costello replaced Grant were interesting, and unpredictable, but fair play they worked
    Sometimes it wont of course, but thats the nature of the beast that is the Championship

    Maybe also as he's now given the freedom to play further up the pitch, rather than the defensive priority of LWB.

    Everybody knew (except perhaps NJ 😁 ) that TC is a winger and you have to play him in his true position to get the best out of him.

    He does really well sometimes and gets past players or into good positions but holds onto the ball way too long and takes too many touches when he should just keep it simple and send the ball on

    Very frustrating to watch but still time to adapt and improve

    I hope Ouma will be that player. For different reasons none of Carey, Costello or Knibbs are good enough in that role.
    Neither TC nor Alli got any service on the right. Macnamara is not a wingback.We need somebody who can bring the wingers on both sides into play.
    After last week at Cheltenham I thought Chalobah was going to be that player. Didnt really see him make any surging runs this afternoon.

    Was an exciting watch. TC man of the match before his goal perhaps, and then the icing on the cake. Great news Lloyd had signed and kept us pretty solid at the back. I like Carey’s endeavour and forward thinking play, but I understand why some might worry about him. I think he’ll keep developing and adding more nous to his play as he build experience. There is always a goal there too, so I’d say don’t wish these things away. 1 down 45 to go.

    Well for one he was against better opposition, and he looked like he was in a different role. Done his job well.

    cant judge a game against league 2 opposition as to what a player is gonna do in the championship.

    Great result and a perfect start to the season.

    Thought we started really well but then lost a bit of control of the game. TC wasn’t really effective on the right, but as soon as we switched him over to the left he looked a constant threat. Can definitely see TC on the left, Grant up top and a new right winger becoming our strongest option before too long.

    Before the game I was a bit worried about the formation change defensively. Lloyd is really good in a back three at being aggressive, stepping up, winning headers and battling on the ground. Last season he knew he had Bell and Ramsay behind him to sweep up if he didn’t win it. Today he lost the header and Derby were straight in behind, so that’s definitely one for us to learn from. It was an obvious issue from my point of view and unfortunately it cost us a goal.

    Other than that though, I thought the formation change was fine. We look better going forward, probably not quite as solid at the back, but that’s probably to be expected.

    Leaburn made a real difference when he came on. Just wasn’t really Godden’s game today, and Leaburn’s physicality gave us something different and really helped us.

    Overall, great result and well deserved.

    I think it’s completely understandable that pundits, bookies and opposition fans see us as relegation fodder. They’re largely basing that on last season in performances, goals and squad. They won’t be aware of Jones changing the system or the players we’ve brought in. I actually think we’ll still be in a scrap but we’l be a different proposition this season. We’ll both concede and score more. Hopefully those extra goals will nick a few more wins and get us the points to avoid that scrap but it’ll be hard I think.

    I hadn’t appreciated what a handful Carlton Morris is. Has some attributes that Miles should aim to develop.
    Morris is an excellent target man. The Luton player I would have liked to sign last summer, but we were never going to be able to compete with Derby for him.

    Here's the important details from the BBCs write up of our victory today. "With pressure increasing on the resumption, Timothy Ouma headed wide when unmarked at a corner but Jones was not so wasteful as he powered the ball in from an exquisite Karlan Grant cross".

    An excellent corner from Carey ( I doubt any one noticed !) and Chalobah just couldn't make a good contact with a poor headed attempt despite leaping well.
    Be interesting to see when Ouma can push to be involved.

    Looking forward to seeing the attacking midfielder who is going to score 9 goals or more as so many on CL dont rate Carey.

    Just caught up on the very brief highlights. Goals both had moments of quality, Grant’s cross, JRC’s pass, Leaburn’s composure and that TC finish wow. Couldn’t tell about the penalty shout but if it’s not a penalty it’s probably a dive so the ref got it wrong either way. Danny Mac unlucky not to score a cracking volley and Mannion with a couple of good saves. Fantastic

    The main thing I take from today is that it was full of things that would never happened in a Charlton game last season. We are on a project to evolve and overall the evidence was there today that this is underway.

    We lose that game last season IMO….. Big Billy next to Jones at the back is such an asset and Leaburn was unplayable / superb when he came on. Mannion is solid but add Okonkwo in and I would feel even better.

    Let’s not forget in the next month we have Ouma, Ramsay (not that I’m in a rush to drop McNamara), Kelman and Mbick to come in.

    Everyone can beat everyone in this league but it’s been a great day for us today

    I think a lot of those situations he's genuinely looking to see if he can run on goal himself.

    Everyone appreciates and rates Carey’s goal scoring qualities. What frustrates most is that he’s played as a ten - which he isn’t - and is relied upon as the central creative threat - which he’s never going to be. Maybe he won’t need to be as this system develops.
