I think people are putting far too much weight on the fact the Rakin-Costello came on and played in that role ahead of Knibbs on Saturday.
You have to think about game state and personnel already on the pitch. Rakin-Costello came on in the 73rd minute at which point Derby had started to play again and open the game up. With us having equalised, it wasn’t like the momentum was fully on our side and Jones would have known that Chalobah was unlikely to make the full 90 minutes whilst wanting to try and get a bit more control at a time where if Derby had scored we almost certainly wouldn’t have got back into it.
So bringing on Rakin-Costello instead of Knibbs wasn’t anything telling, it was that we needed a bit more control. We still had Campbell, Alli and Leaburn for the counter attack (which showed for our winner), and it allowed us to be flexible in the last 10-15 minutes including stoppage time with future changes. If we needed or wanted to be more attacking, or the game momentum had switched, we could’ve brought on Knibbs and/or Apter with Rakin-Costello moving back. But as we know, the change worked and we went to a back 5 instead with the more defensive substitutions to protect the lead and get the bodies in the middle to defend the inevitable crosses that were coming in.
Knibbs, for me, has a big part to play this season and Saturday’s non-introduction wasn’t anything except Jones proving he made the right substitution for what was needed because let’s be honest, would Knibbs have been in that position and played that ball through to Leaburn? Unlikely as he’d probably have been closer to Leaburn meaning Derby would’ve continued to have the ball and build a new attack.
There is a lot more than just Rakin-Costello being the furthest forward midfielder so he must be in the 10 position and that’s where Knibbs would play so he could be off.
For me, it was a clever decision and one that allowed flexibility in our approach for the rest of the game.46 -
The bloke is on 3k p/w, which is the lowest in Wrexhams squad for a keeper. Danny Ward is on 12,500. I don’t know where everyone is getting these wrong salaries from! 😂CAFCsayer said:

Thousands of posts from CL were sent to Survey monkey and the trait that was the most pre-eminent out of the 3 above, ticked that box.
Surveymonkey did find that in group 1, many signs of
'needing the last word' were evident and this signals high pride with a fragile ego.
Constant self promotion: This is when a topic is steered back to alleged personal achievements, highlighting insecurity or egotism.
Surveymonkey did find many of the persona's created on Charlton Life were comedy based and shouldn't be taken literally.
2. 83% of CL know who you are !

And you are head of HR at Wrexham to know for certain the figures you quote are right? We've all seen that on the internet, doesn't make them true.SEaddick92 said:

I won’t quote your post @Sage so as not to clog up the thread. I agree with you about why JRC was brought on ahead of Knibbs but it still creates an interesting debate about if JRC goes or not. Let’s imagine he does and Ouma takes over the role of either Chalobah or Coventry. Then we find ourselves in a similar situation, game in the balance and needing control in the midfield but with that player in the 10. Who do you bring on? Knibbs isn’t a controlling player and I wouldn’t want Mwamba, Doc or Cov/Chalobah playing there either. There’s the option of moving Ouma up but that doesn’t seem to suit his game.
Is there a chance that JRC is actually a really useful balancing midfielder? Not one who will start often but who can come on for the last half an hour and help us get some control while being able to pick a pass?
That doesn’t mean that Knibbs should go out, maybe it increases the chance that Doc will. It just changed the framing of the decision for me7 -

No! No! No! Look at our transfer business? Everybody on Charlton Life knows he hasn't got a clue, and the board should employ a contributor from here, as they once won the Champion's League, by signing a winger from Havant and Waterlooville, on 'Football Manager'...1 -
Agreed and I would trust RC to know more than most on here who indicates he is on good wages.DamoNorthStand said:SEaddick92 said:

Good post @Sage. I think it’s the obsession with referencing positions as numbers, and unqualified social media types dishing out in-depth tactical analysis these days.Effectively, JRC came on to play as an all-round midfielder rather than a pure ‘10’. NJ and Fleming were discussing the areas of the pitch and the team that need addressing, not who to bring on as our number 10.4
-
I don’t think many people think they know better than NJ. This thread is to discuss our view points on the window and express our opinion. Would be incredibly dull if all that got published was 100% factualSteveACS said:

Allegedly we’re one of 4 clubs interested in Bolton’s John McAtee4
-
I sympathise with Kaminski's family situation, but we spent £750k plus a 3 Yr contract and sounds like he expects us to just cut our losses and let him go one year in - not acceptable.2

Charlton international group on facebook saying Okonkwo about to put pen to paper on a 3 yr deal.2

Would be a strange one as he plays in the 10 doesn't he? With Carey, Knibbs, JRC & Grant we do not need thatSheedyCAFC said:Allegedly we’re one of 4 clubs interested in Bolton’s John McAtee2 -

Would be very surprised if either of those left. Think Carey's drop off last season has probably warned off any suitors for now.AberystwythAddick said:

If this happens he wouldn't just be a stop gap keeper;
We would need him to save shots in the big part of the goal 🙄2 -
Burnley also mentioned by Rich as having an interest in JRS. Would have to be a permanent as he's got 12 months left.6

Do not be surprised if we end up with Roberts and not JRS 😁AberystwythAddick said:
