I also think that those long standing season ticket holders have a good point about rewarding their chronic loyalty.  Certainly two years doesn't seem very long at all. But if that data no longer exists, I'm not sure how easily it could be reconstructed.
Out of interest, how far should it go back, does it include breaks and what sort of priority should it merit?
My first ST was 68/69. I didn't renew for the subsequent Selhurst seasons and only went on a match by match basis as I could make it. We instantly renewed when we went to Upton Park a) because it wasn’t Selhurst and b) it was basically through the tunnel and turn right, and continued to do so ever since.  What that has to do with getting priority over those that have been schlepping around the country more times than I have beats me.

I don't really know tbh. I think someone above suggested 5 points per year to go back indefinitely. That seems to be fair to me, though I've no doubts that it would be unworkable. I certainly think it would be good if it included the time before our last promotion; fans who actively supported the club when we were down in the third tier are, in my eyes, more worthy of a place up the pecking order than those who only (re)appeared after we reached these dizzy heights.

I'm not really arguing for a retro-active change though, as I suspect it would probably be more trouble than it's worth. I would like the club to investigate ways of recording data now though, so that in future years a fairer solution could be introduced.

    They should give more.
    I think they will.

My understanding is that they are giving what they are required to give for the Carabao Cup.
I would imagine at £25 a ticket they are confident they can sell all other tickets to their own fans, that is understandable that they take care of their own supporters.
They are required to give 10% which would be 6,285. Don’t think they should be allowed to hide behind a segregation argument when it’s such a new stadium.
Well Wembley is new’ too but we still saw unoccupied / unsold seats.

I think the maximum capacity and therefore your percentage calculation may be based on no segregation limitations - say for a concert or the likes of NFL when there are no such concerns.

No it is the Carabao Cup rules to give the away team 10%
    Im
not disputing the rules. But I assume there must be some caveat regarding segregation limitations that’s all in arriving at the actual
    number.

Otherwise wouldn’t the club have challenged the allocation immediately?
I believe they have challenged it and were given segregation as the excuse.
There you go then. The number is presumably able to be validated against previous allocations to other teams.

@JohnBoyUK can you see on the Spurs system whether they are selling to Spurs fans the blocks that would be given to away team if allocation was higher?

Here you go... away end/corner in red!

For the record, thats the same amount of tickets as Arsenal gets, just to be clear, so I doubt you'll get any more.
From what I can see Blocks 516, 517, 518 and 519 have sold 50% already.  Only a handful of single seats in lower tiers in the South, East and West.  Big chunks of available tickets in the East and South uppers

We were in block 119 with my girls for the weekend friendly and it was a great view from there and we was about 10-12 seats away from where the away fans sit.  First time I've sat in the East since the new stadium.

My usual seat is where the green dot is on block 252 in the South.

My mate went to the Palace European final as he has had a season ticket for about 25 years+.  In that time he has probably done a total of about 5 away games.  Felt wrong to me (and him but he wasn't going to pass up on it!).

These talks/arguments always pop up when we get a good away tie or a big game in general.

Our loyalty system is genuinely fine and as someone said, if you were supporting a different club, there are far more many hoops to jump through and less opportunities for tickets as other clubs travel far better than us.

There will be plenty of opportunities to do aways this season where loyalty points won't even factor in. Boro, Blackburn, Preston, Bolton, Swansea, Burnley etc. If you want your away fix and to rack up some points, plenty of chances for now heading into next season.

If you want the 'glamour' ties, do the hard miles, fairly simple, sorry.
I'm pretty sure you won't find anyone who disagrees with this. What some people are concerned about though is that the two-tickets per person rule is in direct contravention of this principle.

Clubs that can’t meet the basic requirements for the competition should not be in it.

still 2 each which is annoying.
    That won’t change anytime soon
    It really should.

Its absurd that some supporters who do a lot of games lose out because someone wants to take his mate/wife/fan of some other club who hasn't been to a charlton game before.
I would argue you're not doing a lot of games if you can't get a ticket for this one.

I'm not against removing the 2 tickets per person. However, if the club decide to change the policy then they need to give notice. Contrary to the myths about Millwall mates being given the spare, a lot of the time it's another family member who goes to all the games with the fan that qualifies but for whatever reason do not assign the ticket to the person attending.

I went to both Anglo Italian Cup away games, so I think it's only fair that I'm given a complimentary ticket for this one.

So why will the two ticket conversations not appear for Blackburn, Bolton, Boro away etc?

These conversations only pop up when it's a big club away, Wembley or a London fixture. The ticket system is fine for around 20 of 23 away games this season.

Blackburn away end holds 8000? Preston holds over 5k? We will do well to take a thousand. If we draw one of the big Manchester sides in the cup or Liverpool, or even Newcastle, suddenly the ticket system needs fixing.
Blackburn, Bolton, Boro are irrelevant because supply outstrips demand. It is an issue for the bigger games because people who have put in less miles, or perhaps haven't even been before, can get priority over others based on the attendance of their friends and family.

Problem is that the current system only work when we aren’t doing very well. If we somehow start magically start challenging for the plays off then those 3 matches a season (West Ham, Millwall & QPR), become 6 (Pompey, Watford, Norwich) or even 10 etc.

Wouldn’t it make more sense to have a system in place in advance of our away average increasing, rather than leaving it and then changing it overnight, because we have the issue most weeks.

I’m not saying you don’t do the miles but haven’t you already posted that you’ve got your tickets despite not having enough loyalty points, does seem slightly hypocritical or am I going mad

The moaning evertime we get a high demand match is tedious, same with the moaning about VG!

We all know the rules over VG and the rest is fairly consistent. If you think that VG gives an advantage, then join up yourself, it's open to all. Now we look like losing VG next season, this is possibly (at least partly) down to the grief the club get each time this occurs.

If we retain 2 per applicant, which seems likely going forward, then the suggestion to aggregate the points by Stig seems a good one if it is technically possible. I sympathise with the ticket office during these high pressure moments, although we obviously crave more as it means that we will be doing well.

Its an interesting debate, one on hand you have a season ticket holder for 25+ years who rarely does aways and on the other someone who has only had a season ticket for the last 3 or 4 seasons but does every away. Who should get priority? Who is a bigger fan?

Easy option would be an away ST like Luton do and also gives you first refusal on cup games, doubt there would be many takes though.

You could argue who the "Bigger fan" is if you like though there are far too many variables - a 25 year old who travels everywhere is very likely going to have had a season ticket for less time than a 50 year old - but there is no question that the person who has been going to every game home & away for the past 4 years should have priority for away tickets today.

Call it for what it is, there are some Charlton fans who only want to know about away days when it's a big club away. You never see these conversations when it is the smaller clubs. Sorry but it is true.

We did have away season tickets when we were in the Premier League & it was something i suggested to the club when the present Loyalty points scheme was being set up.

I have 435. I don't have a season ticket this year for outside Charlton issues. Despite not having a season ticket, already done an 8 hour round trip to attend one game, sure there will be plenty more like that.

I am not the one on here complaining about a fair ticket system, I even said "I understand if I can't get one, I can't get one, don't ask, don't get". If I wasn't fortunate enough to have people willing to help me out with tickets, I wouldn't be on here complaining about the points system, I would accept that because I don't have a season ticket (yet) that I am behind the points.

People are doing immense work dancing around what I am trying to get at here. If you aren't willing to do Preston away, don't complain if you're not at Old Trafford etc. They're the same distance, Charlton will still be there. It just irks me a bit this topic. Until we start selling out the Northern away days, the ticket system doesn't need changing, sorry.

Nobody thinks that those who attend all the matches shouldn't have top priority. Nobody thinks that those who attend more matches shouldn't have priority over people that attend fewer. What some are concerned about is people who go to less matches, maybe even none, currently get priority for tickets because of who they know not how many matches they go to. Setting an artificial target of ten matches or whatever, is precisely that - artificial. The current system of allowing two tickets per person perverts the natural order that you, I and practically everyone else, is keen to defend.

You should only be allowed a ticket if you've been to Crewe on a -3°C Wednesday night and Leeds, Port Vale and Morecambe on a Tuesday night.

The current system of allowing two tickets per person perverts the natural order that you, I and practically everyone else, is keen to defend.
I can honestly say I don't know anyone who doesn’t buy tickets for actual Charlton fans though? How many cases are there going to be where someone with high loyalty points is buying a ticket for someone who isn't at least slightly dedicated? I would say not many. I wouldn't get a ticket for someone with a sparse away allocation if I knew they were fairweather, I'll be straight.

Also I will be fairly straight up about this. In a hypothetical scenario where let's say one fan is Valley gold, season ticket and has max away points, I think they've earned the right to pick whoever they want to come with them. If they have put more money into travelling all season, spending all their money on tickets and decide to being their partner or friend, so be it. I see no issue.

It only becomes an issue when we have an overwhelming demand for every fixture and are selling out everywhere. Then and only then should away sales become more stricter imo. I.e. you can buy a ticket for someone in phase 6 as long as you are in phase 1.

Right now, here is what is currently happening. People are dodging the less glamorous Charlton away days, leaving seats vacant and essentially not following the club (I know people will have their reasons, been there) but then when we get a game closer to home or a bigger club, the same people are interested suddenly. Said people would never have an issue if they followed Charlton no matter where or who we play.

    It really is that simple.

My mate went to the Palace European final as he has had a season ticket for about 25 years+.  In that time he has probably done a total of about 5 away games.  Felt wrong to me (and him but he wasn't going to pass up on it!).
Its an interesting debate, one on hand you have a season ticket holder for 25+ years who rarely does aways and on the other someone who has only had a season ticket for the last 3 or 4 seasons but does every away. Who should get priority? Who is a bigger fan?
Another way of looking at it is he has a long standing palarse supporting friend and should be banned not only from buying away tickets, but also this forum for such a misdemeanour

    He's more of a loose acquaintance 🤣

I’m not saying you don’t do the miles but haven’t you already posted that you’ve got your tickets despite not having enough loyalty points, does seem slightly hypocritical or am I going mad
I have 435. I don't have a season ticket this year for outside Charlton issues. Despite not having a season ticket, already done an 8 hour round trip to attend one game, sure there will be plenty more like that.

That sounds like a standard home game for me :(
Alright mate no one likes a show off  ;)

I'm pretty sure you won't find anyone who disagrees with this. What some people are concerned about though is that the two-tickets per person rule is in direct contravention of this principle.

They aren't irrelevant, in fact they are entirely relevant as the same people who will moan about the ticket system here, might not attend those fixtures.

If you want to make sure you attend every fancy tie, season ticket, 10+ away games a season or so? Job done.

Call it for what it is, there are some Charlton fans who only want to know about away days when it's a big club away. You never see these conversations when it is the smaller clubs. Sorry but it is true.

I think we are both many miles away from convincing each other, so let's agree to disagree. Here's hoping we'll be in a position to argue about it again when the third round comes along. Enjoy the match!

Clubs that can’t meet the basic requirements for the competition should not be in it.
But presumably it is the current rule (basic requirement)?

When do Arsenal get this allocation ?
