I can't imagine the club expected to be kicking off the 26/27 season with the same shirt sponsor. That would have been one of the key areas targeted to increase commercial revenue.
Having said that, I'm glad it's not Mr Q. Interesting that they no longer sponsor Watford, and it seems that Watford chose to move away from gambling sponsors.4 -

Noticed that Birmingham had Corals on the front of their shirts and Midldesboro and Sheffield United have Midnite, an online betting firm0 -
With betting companies being banned in the premier league it seemed logical they would increase coverage in the EFL hence Mr Q now at qpr I believe3

I thought there might be an influx of Asian betting sponsors in the EFL now that they're banned on the front of PL shirts. Interesting it hasn't happened, I presume there aren't enough viewers of the EFLshirty5 said:

I'm surprised there's not been more of an influx down to the Championship, although I did see a piece I think on The Athletic that Prem clubs are massively struggling to find sponsors to replace the gambling sponsors.Swisdom said:With betting companies being banned in the premier league it seemed logical they would increase coverage in the EFL hence Mr Q now at qpr I believe0 -
Since August 25, so here for a year. Reports from the opening game on the catering and other threads suggest either she was missed, or whatever her and others collective effort has led us to a worse position commercially.Alwaysneil said:I hadn't read this thread before, got all excited about a new professional member of staff, posters knew people who spoke highly of her, all very positive working through July.
And then gone in August and mention of an online casino that was possibly supposed to be shirt sponsor. All very Charlton.
The numbers will be telling though not to hand obviously. Maybe it was the Mr Q factor. But Charlton has never (almost never?) got it's commercial act together.
Maybe it needs a better team effort and focus for improvement.1 -
Correct - and thats where the biggest budgets can be found.Swisdom said:With betting companies being banned in the premier league it seemed logical they would increase coverage in the EFL hence Mr Q now at qpr I believe0 -

We do play in the Sky Bet Championship and take their money !killerandflash said:I can't imagine the club expected to be kicking off the 26/27 season with the same shirt sponsor. That would have been one of the key areas targeted to increase commercial revenue.

MrQ and QPR is a good combination. If I was a Hoops fan, I'd write "PR" after the MrQ badge...0
-
Mods, can you change the thread title to 'Alice Larkworthy disappointed commercial director' please?0
-
If you could see it; MrQ in shades of black on a black away kit. Great marketing for TV that. Couldn't see either shirt sponsor in their opening day win at Portsmouth, Not that i care- just thought it was amusing;killerandflash said:MrQ and QPR is a good combination. While we're talking about betting companies, just caught Nathan's interview after Saturdays game and one of the companies shown on the board behind him is LondonBet. Never heard of them before now but new betting companies seem to appear every week.0

they are one of our kit sponsors - think someone said based in Wales....iaitch said:While we're talking about betting companies, just caught Nathan's interview after Saturdays game and one of the companies shown on the board behind him is LondonBet. They sponsor us, as a last minute set up due to the Mr Q sponsorship falling at the last hurdle.iaitch said:While we're talking about betting companies, just caught Nathan's interview after Saturdays game and one of the companies shown on the board behind him is LondonBet. I suspect bigger betting firms will start looking at the EFL teams now.
I personally don't mind if we're sponsored by a gambling firm, however I get that it will rile up a lot of our fans.
Ladbrokes is an inoffensive looking logo, certainly better than Mr Q or a random company based in Asia3 -
Absolutely this & whilst last season’s shirt sponsor was in place there was a year to source a new sponsor that would increase our commercial revenue, which was the remit. I alluded to the gaming company on the new shirt thread and the reason the shirt was delayed. RSK have both helped, by stepping in, and benefitted from a great deal (for them). We are a long way short of our neighbours along the road for example and shirt sponsorship was a key deal to get done. That and the lounge relaunches and failed membership scheme…probably not a surprise that there’s been a change.SporadicAddick said:
I’d imagine the focus is largely (exclusively?) on revenue generation, so sponsorship, hospitality, advertising, commercial partnership development and ticket sales will all be above your list. 2 and 4 are unlikely to be near the top. 1 is fixed for the next 9 months so nothing doing there. Incrementality from 3 is unlikely to be material in the short term.swords_alive said:Induction probably over now, maybe a strategy under development and appointment of a team.
So priorities from a fans perspective for the commercial team, assuming there will be one:
1. Match day prices.
2. Gather and Gather contract, the '32 minute' problem
3. Fans zone, optimisation.
4. Some means of ongoing comms with stakeholders, e.g. to listen to/manage involvement of sponsors and fans and others.
What else might a commercial director take an interest in?4 -

Yet I think that is exactly what happened, taking a moral stance that is.valleynick66 said:

The EFL was accused of making stuff up to defend the Sky Bet contract0

Or are you suggesting our commercial director left as a consequence of not wanting to do a deal with a betting company ?0 -
Aren't London Bet just another white-label Far Eastern firm?
0 -
London bet is a trading name of Thistle Bet who seem to based in Cardiff. So I assume it's a white label.0

Most kit deals are just crap aren't they below the top 4, unless you get a sponsor who really gives a toss, like Coventry have at the mo, it's all just a glorified ad board.2
-
I could very well be wrong but I imagine that at Charlton a commercial director spends most of their time going after the big lumps of income.
To me that means persuading rich people or institutions to have their name displayed somewhere or other, or to sell the expensive ‘packages’ of boxes or (in my experience vile) meal deals.
Yet looking around the stadium I see a lot of empty seats not generating income.
I believe somewhere along the line commercial directors hob nob with the rich and powerful, have fancy meals at fancy meetings with performative name dropping conversations, and the use of taxis and whatever.
I might have the role of commercial director wrong.
However I think the hardest work is about filling those empty seats on a regular basis and creating season ticket holders. That means a bit of speculation like subsidised coach travel, also liaison with TFL, with SE Trains, with industrial sites for parking. It also probably means a degree of carefully targeted trudging to local schools and institutions, and following that up.
It also means persistence and being around for the duration as it were.
Maybe previous ‘commercial directors’ have done it all.
And yet.
It always impacts on me when we have football for a fiver, or something like kids for a quid, and we see actual seats filled with actual bums. From that it occurs to me that those kinds of efforts are more valuable in the long term than getting some here today gone tomorrow betting firm to put their name on an advertising hoarding or part of the football kit.5 -
Cov have absolutely struck gold with that Monzo deal. Really really clever stuff from both sides.Rothko said:Most kit deals are just crap aren't they below the top 4, unless you get a sponsor who really gives a toss, like Coventry have at the mo, it's all just a glorified ad board.2
