Is Dawson the best red ball spinner ?
I like the right arm leg spin of Rehan Ahmed who could become a good all rounder at 22 but will otherwise just become another gun for hire in the T20 money spinners around the globe with his ability as a death batsman as well as his bowling.

Yes I know he's playing white ball cricket now because he was ignored for so long in test cricket.
You end up being a 12th man or 13th man and just watching instead of developing your skills.
Bashir is learning how to be a gofer or drinks waiter.
Crane or Patterson-White red ball bowlers are potential spinners for England but ever since Adil Rashid chose to focus on White ball cricket 6 years ago it's been really difficult for any one to break through.
Jack Leech nearly became a regular.

The Pakistan team looks like a bunch of unfit old geezers and a few kids got together for a Sunday afternoon club 3rd Xl knock about.
This series should be good practice for England ready for the tough series down the road v South Africa and Australia0 -

We don't produce spinners because we don't play them in county cricket. If we look at county age group cricket then we will find that a one-dimensional cricketer has to be exceptional in that one discipline to make it even to the Academy stage so, inevitably, a spinner as to be able to bat too. Look at Surrey, for example - Jacks and Lawrence are batters who bowl spin whereas those, in recent years, who are primarily spinners such as Moriarty, Steel, Virdi, Majid and Ealham have all struggled to get a regular place in the CC side. Kent have just one spinner capable of bowling 50 overs in a CC match in their squad and the truth is that he isn't top draw either.
The other aspect is that spinners can fall into two categories - white ball bowlers who bowl flat and those that have bowled thousands of overs in red ball and have worked out, through doing so, how to get wickets when conditions are and aren't favourable. It is the latter category that have gone missing.
So, if you were a parent of a talented young bowler you would be best advised to focus on bowling seam if the signs are that the child will be fast enough, principally because they may have up to four opportunities of getting into a county side. If spinning the ball really is their "gift" then they have to make damn sure that they can do more than just hold a bat. The challenge for a youngster is then to devote equal time to both. And that really is a challenge in itself.4 -
With the advent of Cox and the possibility of him making the 3 slot his own, could we see Bethell returning in the next series at 6 or 7 and acting as the spinning all-rounder? He will need to do some serious work on his bowling but if we are really turning to the likes of Lawrence and Jacks, then surely Bethell, with his repeatable action, is a candidate. Such a shame he spent the first half of the CC at the IPL because that would have been an opportunity for him to bowl some overs in red ball.0

A load of runs out there for Brook if he bats sensibly - iffy attack and he averages 85 v Pakistan.
So of course he wafted at a wide one whilst on 1. Very lucky that wasn't that.

Re DRS and reviews. I was watching Sky earlier & they showed some Test matches against Pakistan from yesteryear and the umpiring was poor. LBW's given when the ball was clearly pitching outside leg etc. But also ones clearly out but not given.0

In fact, based on the number of overs bowled the Test was over inside 2 days - just under 178 overs bowled.0 -
All a shame really. Test matches should start on a Thursday so at least they should make it to the weekend.3
