Albert Bennett played for Newcastle in the mid 1960’s as a centre/inside forward and according to both the Evening News and Evening Standard was going to sign for Charlton for £30,000 which probably would have been a record for us at the time. Both papers ran the story for several days, and then all went quiet. He eventually went to Rotherham a year or so later.1
