Of all the outs, i dont think doc should be one. Could be vital cover this year and a leader in background (like jordan henderson).
I would have prefered doc to come on instead of JRC yesterday (in that situation)

    From Palace forum

Charlton fans think they will get JRS back however I doubt they could afford the fee so loan would be their only option. I doubt that will happen unless we can't sell him. I suspect the same with Esse.

It's that time of the window where selling clubs have to decide whether to drop their price, ship out on loan or just stick with him in the hope that they will improve.
I showed this post to a mate of mine who is a season ticket holder at Palace. His response was as follows :

“Can Charlton afford £5m with add-ons? Esse would be £10m with add-ons“

I can’t see us spending £5m on any player so if he does join us I suspect it’s another loan deal.
Would Palace prefer to get say £3m now rather than lose him for nothing next summer? He'll be 24 later this year so they wouldn't even get compensation.

Rich Cawley mentioned on his pod that Palace need to sell some players due to the UEFA financial fair play rules given they're playing European football this season.
The same man who told me we were getting Okonkwo also said we were getting JRS. I took the 2nd with a pinch of salt, but not it seems he was on the money. What surprises me is how much he knows given his no longer associated
Strikes me that lots of people who work in football are very loose lipped and want people to know that they have info
Tbf to him, he never usually is, so I was quite surprised to be honest with you.

We don't have the financial or squad availibility to have someone "in the background" sadly. If JRC, Oumah and Mwamba have all moved ahead of him in the pecking order and Coventry and Chalobah are the first choices, he deserves a move honestly so that he can play some football.

I don think he would sit in the ‘background’ tho, that is just the leadership aspect. Like we saw in second half of last season, he can still play and definitely could be a jones ‘finisher’ this season, given his performances in 2nd half last season from being a starter.

To do what though ? He can’t keep the ball at all .  He doesn’t have huge pace to cover ground .  I can see why Mwamba and JRC’s superior technical ability have moved ahead of him .

Edit - Jones seems to agree

Agree. He's only good for the backs-to-wall games. And we just went away to a team worth £100m+ and didn't sit back all game... So when would Docherty be useful to us? Perhaps coming off the bench in a match against top teams, but then why keep him for practically 6 sub appearances per season.

We already have cover we have 4/5 options who can play there. We have to move on a midfielder, JRC can play multiple positions, coventry is slowly starting to prove he can adapt to a better style of play and knibbs is normally the first choice replacement for Carey. Docherty would look even worse in a side that is actually trying to play some better stuff

We were so backs to the wall because we didn’t have enough good players and played a very negative system ( evidently we didn’t have much choice last season).  Long live the evolution, which will likely only include TC, Jones and probably Coventry from Wembley.  Ramsay and Edwards coming back to top form would be a bonus

We were backs to the wall yesterday for the last 15. I understand why we're moving on, but Doc would definitely have been very effective yesterday in a spoiling role.

His leadership isn't to be overlooked either.

Agreed killer. He would have been perfect for the last 15 yesterday

Doc can run. I’m still not convinced JRC can - not very far at once anyway. Give him his due for the pass through to Leaburn for the winner last week and if he’d scored on the break yesterday I’d be more convinced but I didn’t feel he helped much yesterday at all.

Nah. Just found his Instagram and seen he recently signed a pro contract. Does that mean anything for Mannion then?

From the Cawley and Mendez ost match pod, Cawley confirmed that Burnley are in for JRS.
He said it does depend to what level of Palaces demands they’re prepared to go to.
I’d suggest its also very much up to JRS then.
If he wants to be in London as some have suggested then that would probably tip the balance and force Palaces hand.

Also said he thought we wouldn’t be able to meet their demands and JRS wages etc, but he’s now heard that we are prepared to! It’s not a done deal though according Rich but sounds a lot more positive and with TC signing a new deal, I think it could balance in our favour.
I put that Burnley were in for him yesterday. But as per usual people on here didn’t believe what I said. If Burnley are serious they could blow us out of the water. Plus wages will be higher. But I know Rak Sakyi is more interested in joining us.

No, Woodham was one of the u18s who signed pro and moved up to the u21s this summer.

I wouldn’t mind Kanu staying as cover for Godden. Does he count to the squad numbers?
Yes. He will be 22 in November. That is one reason the club want to move him out. But the main reason is he is unlikely to start many games and is therefore unwilling to sign a new contract. He wants to play, even if it means dropping down the leagues.

Think you have to imagine Doc is one of the outs now, can’t get in the match day squad ahead of Mwamba and will likely be 6th choice when Ouma is up to speed

As I suspected , we’re much better without him.
Coventry is. I think Doc confused the hell out of him with his unpredictability.  Now Coventry has a clearer idea of his own role.
