The fact is whatever occurred before this incident did not
1. Result in the Welling player unable to continue
2. Justify doing that to an opponent (who will now have an operation on Wednesday as a result)
Seeing Welling 'fans' justify this challenge on X, and along with that manager, seems like a club that is on a path that I would not waste my time on.17 -
If the ref booked the Welling player does that mean there can’t be any retrospective action?1

To be honest, when I saw it at the time I didn't think it looked that bad. I even said that whilst it didn't warrant a red, you've seen them given. I was surprised they had to take him off as I thought it was just his nose as he a had a wad of cotton up one nostril.
Obviously having seen the footage, it was a lot worse than I thought it was.
Not defending the challenge at all but as I said, the ref was weak from the start and maybe if he'd dealt with the shithousery from Tennent in the first place, it wouldn't have happened.2 -

They can only take action if the ref missed the incident.That said, it is very rare but there is legal precedent for criminal action to be taken where there is wanton violence for an on-the-ball incident that goes beyond the contact element of the game. Not as bad, but there was another one on Monday where from my angle it looked like the defender went into an aerial challenge shoulder first with a fair bit of pace. I thought it looked bad at time but fella got up ok though. Can see at 42 secs on these highlights.Covered End said:
