Its barely rained since the start of April and our spinner is Lawrence. I actually despair.

Which just shows that none of the spinners available are good enough in the eyes of the selectors; they may be right.
If does seem crazy in the conditions this summer in England.
Is Dawson the best red ball spinner ?
I like the right arm leg spin of Rehan Ahmed who could become a good all rounder at 22 but will otherwise just become another gun for hire in the T20 money spinners around the globe with his ability as a death batsman as well as his bowling.
He's retired from red ball cricket

Yes I know he's playing white ball cricket now because he was ignored for so long in test cricket.
You end up being a 12th man or 13th man and just watching instead of developing your skills.

Bashir is learning how to be a gofer or drinks waiter.
Crane or Patterson-White red ball bowlers are potential spinners for England but ever since Adil Rashid chose to focus on White ball cricket 6 years ago it's been really difficult for any one to break through.
Jack Leech nearly became a regular.

That is a gopher where I said Gofer which Bashir has become when he turns up for England.

The Carse thing is just ridiculous. Hopefully Fleming has zero tolerance on this type of thing.

Problem is it isn’t his decision yet and Carse is in the squad for this test. It’s such a stupid thing to do

Carse, Potts and no surprise Ben Stokes were in the club celebrating a Durham win against Derbyshire.
Unless Ben was having a cup of tea back at the Team Hotel and just turned up to sort out the problem ?
Yes, that is an unlikely scenario!

Blimey O'Riley (Irish Spinner ?) when will the penny drop with Ben Stokes that he is a high profile sportsman and he attracts trouble like a sugary can attracts wasps in September!

Brydon Carse was released but not a good look for a player that was banned in 2024 for 3 months for placing 300+ bets on cricket even if it wasn't matches he was involved in and when he was injured.

Joe Root and the ECB must be pulling their hair out.

That just makes it even worse! Doing it when there's been countless incidents in the past year is just brainless.

Would expect a replacement conviently called up

I think it’s a case of beered up idiots wanting a piece of famous cricketers.

Nothing wrong with a few beers after a win but as others have said, have those beers in the hotel bar out of reach of the beered up idiots wanting a fight

Seen the point raised elsewhere and it was also brought up during the Ashes tour Down Under , besides Root most of this England cricket squad could go for drinks anywhere in the country and most people bar diehard cricket fans wouldn't recognise them as professional sportsmen.

Coincidentally though, it is the exact same expression Ben Stokes had in the Carse video:

I think this is a pretty big underestimation of how these things are in these types of clubs.

They will be in a roped off VIP area of the club likely with their own security minder as well as one from the club manning the rope. Word will quickly get round that the England cricket team are there. They will probably be acting all Billy big bollocks (skipping queues, champagne and shots brought to the table etc.). It only takes one bloke to get annoyed that he's not the big man in the club anymore, or that the girl he's into is throwing herself at the professional sportsman, or to try and be mates with them and get ignored and it can all kick off.

When I was at uni of the Kent Cricket team were in the club (happened fairly regularly) the whole place would know even people with zero interest in cricket. It would draw a lot of attention. They would act like celebs (getting people kicked off tables so they could have a bigger space etc.). Never kicked off while I was there but can see how it would. Did see a certain Kent Cricketer with a bit of a reputation as a loose cannon windmill his knob on the dancefloor!

Things have changed!  As you say, all VIP tables etc now - used to see the Kent team in Churchills years back (where Tokyo Team Rooms is now) just looking like a random Sunday league side etc.

Weirdest one was seeing Murali in there standing around looking a bit awkward whilst a few of the rest of them were really pissed.

Saw Wayne Rooney doing this in the Dolphin on the Barbican here, during an over 70's bingo night.

For the art lovers among you the Dolphin Pub was featured a lot in Beryl Cook paintings.

Perhaps the gentleman in question got in trouble with a certain England player many years ago now.

Cricketers do seem to like a certain type of place. If they went to an ordinary pub for a few beers or glasses of wine, none of these incidents would happen.

They're not 20 year olds, Carse and Stokes are in their 30s.

The headline makers are usually the same names - Stokes, Carse, Duckett, Hales, Atkinson, Robinson, Bairstow etc. That's not to say that others don't like a drink but they, perhaps, recognise what their limits are and don't carry the sort of fuse some of those previously named do.

The first thing that Root did was remove the midnight curfew because he probably genuinely believed that enough warnings had been given. Carse wasn't with England and hasn't played a game for them in eight months but given that he is on a central contract that doesn't expire for 14 months, one would hope that he might understand the consequences of his actions and feel a certain level of responsibility given England are his main employers.

BBC article seems to omit that Ben Stokes was there as well. Weird how trouble seems to follow him about.
Carse should be dropped from the squad for the rest of the summer and his contract fees withheld for being so arrogant or stupid - and it doesn't matter which - as to be out on the lash in a test match week.  No excuses, no pity.
Stokes clearly ranks going out and getting on it far more highly than any notion of professionalism.  Suck it up thicko, you're highly recognisable and will inevitably attract dickhead attention. Only a dickhead would take the chance.
Nothing's gonna change with England all the while the biggest pisshead of the lot is still in charge. ECB has the Key.

Yes I know that's the word and spelling is *teetotaller but what I heard was Tea total !

*Teetotaller was first said by Dicky Turner a temperance activist in 1833 who had a stutter and said  "t-t total abstinence is best." Nothing to do with tea apparently 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hopefully Sonny Baker keeps away from night clubs.

But be a true professional. Wake up in a ditch tomorrow morning,  but still make it to the golf course by 9am.
