We are 2 games in, and this squad will get used and rotated more this year. Remember we had a lot of injuries at the same time last year. And history tells you, that is likely to happen again.

This. Grant, TC, and Alli can all play on the right. Maybe not their strongest side, but all capable. Apter is the fifth man in a four man rotation if JRS joins. I'm still saying if. 

Before the season started it looked a straight battle between Doc and JRC. Three games in, three appearances for JRC, none for Doc and not even making the bench in the league shows who is winning/has won that battle. I believe Nathan feels like with Chalobah and Ouma, we have that off the ball workrate monster (albeit slightly different in style to Doc in Chalobah's case) to provide cover in the holding two. You can throw Mwamba into the mix there as well, though I want to be cautious with him as he's still learning. That being said, first off the bench with a lead away to West Ham isn't exactly slow playing it with him, so Nathan clearly sees things differently to me.

So yeah, expect Asiimwe, Docherty, Kamisnki, and Kanu all to leave. Asiimwe might be a loan because I believe he's contracted through '28, but I might be wrong on that. I think there's a player in there. He has the touch and physical abilities of a modern fullback. It's just that defensively he doesn't seem to be there yet, and going forward he isn't as impervious as he looked like he would be when he first broke through. Still young, a player who could come good in three years and still only be 24/25. But similar to Anderson, one who isn't good enough now and we can't afford to wait around forever for.

With Godden being hurt, I wonder if we'll hold on to Kanu for a little longer than we'd planned. Maybe wait until the end of the window. Or that may just be brinksmanship. I'd put Kanu again firmly in the "not good enough now, may be good enough later" but obviously with his contract expiring we definitely can't wait around on him.

Knibbs averaged 0.41 goals per 90 last season, and Carey averaged 0.21.

Obviously Carey has done way more in a Charlton shirt, and had a better season, but worth noting Knibbs' stats.

Perhaps need to look at assists and completed passes as well as goals for an attacking midfielder. 

Hopefully if we are being made to wait and they don’t get a better offer, then the price goes down for us, call it fucking us about tax!!

Given our recent history of dreadful injury records and paper thin squads I think depth is always a big part of the puzzle, however in the position you reference we currently have Coventry, Chalobah, Ouma, Mwamba, Docherty and (if need be) JRC and even Carey who NJ I think ideally wants to play deeper. I’m not sure there’s space for much more realistically, even if one goes out 

Chalobah is notoriously injury prone. if he were not, he would not be with us because he is real class. 

Ouma is a punt.  He be wonderful or may be crap. We will not know until which months after the window closes.

Mwamba we have great hopes for, but has looked lost in his two cameos so far, so may take some months to be worth a place in the team.

Docherty, JRC and Carey are all crap and should be nowhere a Championship side. JRC is onw of the worst players I have ever seen in a Charlton shirt. He finds it hard to break into a slow trot. Maybe our best passer, but that is not enough.

Coventry has played really well this season. So much better without Docherty confusing him. But that is only three games. After three seasons of League One standard play, where he looked solid but unenterprising, I have yet to be convinced he will maintain his new level. 

We need a rugged box-to-box MF in there who can defend when called on. Someone like George Dobson. I know we cannot sign him, because a section of posters throw temper tantrums at the thought of re-signing former players, but someone of that type. Sam Morsy would have been ideal. He left on a free.

Totally agree about JRC , the worse player I have seen play for Charlton , no pace , no engine , can’t tackle or head a ball and stands in the middle of the pitch pointing at people . He occasionally hits a good ball but watch how many bad passes he does . Although in all honesty hardly touches the ball.  Would have preferred to have kept Anderson - at least he gives 100%

That has been reported before, we can but hope that JRS pushes it along.

So if that’s old news, things may have changed as far as waiting, especially if they are getting little interest, do they risk Charlton actually saying don’t worry about it and look elsewhere?

Carey has a lot to improve on no doubt, but people calling for Knibbs to replace him is absolutely barmy, Knibbs if he did get a chance has a damn site more to prove than Carey, which is why Carey should be keeping his place. If Carey did all things people suggest he improves on, he wouldn’t be wearing a Charlton shirt for long. This isn’t football manager where you just try things out and hope it works, over all Knibbs has be a bit of a let down for us, I was expecting more of him, he hasn’t really produced enough yet.

Oh, I agree with you regarding Knibbs. But I wouldn’t didmiss the idea of Grant eventually playing in his position.

No agree, but that’s a completely new discussion, how effective would Grant be at it?

My predictions are 1) Doc gets released on a free to a Scottish club 2) Kaminsky ends up in the Netherlands or Belgium for an undisclosed fee at the end of the window (probably for 1 million or a little less) 3) Asiimwe is loaned out to league two side. 4) Kanu is sold on the last day of the window for much lower than the 1 million asking price 5) Apter is loaned back to Blackpool with us covering a majority of his wages. 6) Kelman is left out of the 25 man roster until the January window due to injury.  Burke is left out of the 25 man roster with no takers
