  • Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, or I am missing the obvious, but what is the gesture TC makes after scoring goals ?

I wonder how Millenic Alli feels about TC signing a new deal and JRS potentially being signed. I can't see him starting many games
If we are aiming higher than last season then we need an excellent squad. Gone are the days you can have an excellent starting 11 only. It’s good that we have plenty of talent to bring on when needed.

Was thinking the same. Was surely signed when we thought TC was off
Or because Jones has been saying time and time again that we need more one v one threat, and Alli is another option for that.

Wonder if part of the reason TC signed is because he knows JRS is coming here? Would make sense
And vice versa. End up with both instead of none 😉

I'm not debating that, I was simply wondering how he is feeling as I suspect he joined us thinking he'd be the first choice winger, now he very much won't be

Alli adds depth. When the inevitable injuries occur we need ready and able replacements.

Very few wingers can play a full season at a high level. It takes it toll on the body. A deep squad helps us maintain momentum

I think if we were confident early in the window that TC was signing we'd have signed two RW's, still providing that 1v1 threat NJ has talked about but without 75% of our wingers wanting to play on the left

If a permanent transfer can’t be agreed, a loan would be better than nothing for Palace in the sense that, if JRS does well for us, they could sell him in January. Their difficulty is that, with only 6 months to run on his contract, their negotiating position would be undermined, notwithstanding the amount of money being thrown around in the Championship.

Let’s hope we can do a permanent deal.

Spot on.  In our promotion season , we had literally no squad to speak of and certainly no game changers from the bench.  Suspect a part of TC’s upturn in form is the genuinely competition from Alli and Grant .  There are other factors of course but it can’t have done any harm .

Hopefully he feels like he’s going to have to take his chance when he comes on or gets a start rather than mope about because he’s got competition

I don’t think he ever would have been expecting to be first choice given Grant is happiest off the left as well. He’ll have been told he’s coming in to compete and he’ll have to play well enough to keep the others out

My predictions are 1) Doc gets released on a free to a Scottish club 2) Kaminsky ends up in the Netherlands or Belgium for an undisclosed fee at the end of the window (probably for 1 million or a little less) 3) Asiimwe is loaned out to league two side. 4) Kanu is sold on the last day of the window for much lower than the 1 million asking price 5) Apter is loaned back to Blackpool with us covering a majority of his wages. 6) Kelman is left out of the 25 man roster until the January window due to injury.  Burke is left out of the 25 man roster with no takers
Excellent set of predictions. If that all happens I would be impressed with management. I suspect NJ will try to hang on to Burke unless there are no other options. Burke is one of his cronies.

When I suggested releasing Docherty on a free in acknowledgement of his service, I was abused for wanting to run the club as a charity.

Why the hell would you leave your best striker out the 25 when he back fit and ready to play !!!!
He obviously shouldn’t be left out .  I’m intrigued to see the pecking order though when everyone is fit .
    Leaburn, Godden, Kelman, Mbick probably.

Mbick, Kelman, Leaburn, Godden by the end of the season!
Think you are over egging Mbick at the moment.
    100% Accurate.

Has struggled every single time that he’s been subbed on for us.
So the one game he’s subbed on after a big injury when we’re parking the bus away from home against the biggest and beside in the league.

Because surely ur not basing it off what he was doing as a 17 year old before he even had his breakout in professional football.

Can’t write a youngster coming off an injury against West Ham away
Jones had the confidence to enter Mbick into the fray on Saturday in a game in front of 60k fans against the favourites to win the league and at a time when we were well and truly under the cosh. I think that tells you all you need to know about Mbick.
Am I right in saying that his last 2 Charlton appearances are at the Olympic stadium in front of 60K and at Wembley in front of 90k?
How have you forgotten his substitute appearance at Cambridge in the league cup last season Canters?

I also expect he was told we are likely to use 4 wingers in the majority of games and will likely rotate for saturday/tuesday fixtures. There will be plenty of opportunities to prove himself and if a player backs himself he will believe he can be first choice!

@Garrymanilow including Tucudean on that list has upset me so much I'm only 'utterly delighted' by the TC news rather than 'bouncing off the fucking walls'
He was one I had to really consider but after a good start he dropped off badly. 2 goals in 20 appearances where he looked worse and worse and then missing a last minute 1 on 1 against Millwall to stop us finally beating them puts him in the let down pile unfortunately

They were 2 really good goals though. Some of the highest average goal quality of any Charlton player. Maybe Cameron Stewart beats him or something
