I really think we do not need JRS. His record is not that great/overrated  and we have Godden, Leaburn, Grant, MBick and TC. Better to strengthen elsewhere.

    Charlton - League 1: 15 goals in 43 games

Sheff United: 7 goals in 34 games

Obscure Turkish team: 4 goals in 11 games

    Stoke: 2 goals in 15

    Overhyped IMHO

Why are you comparing a RW to strikers and LWs?

He’s an out and out natural RW. Stats don’t tell the full story considering sub appearances, comfort in a team with people he knows and far less pressure than Saints or Stoke.

No guarantee he’ll be a success but comparing him to Godden is nonsensical.

I think Holsgrove has been mentioned again on the rumours thread to give us something to moan about when it doesn't happen. It's all going far too well right now and we're going to feel so lost without something disappointing to temper it

    Definitely a doomer.

Come on John, it’s positive vibes (and possibly some AI generated images & bread puns) only on this thread today.

Get a loaf of this guy!

roughly 1 goal in every 3.6 games

how many wingers have we had that average that recently?  fuck it - how many strikers have we had that average that rate?
If we can get him fit and firing he will be superb for us

It’s really exciting but I also feel a bit like he could be overhyped by some on here. He’s not kicked on massively since joining us, will cost a lot, and doesn’t the type of pace/pressing ability Jones is usually after. No doubt he’s delightful to watch and fantastic 1:1 though m. Quite a lot on here saying recently he didn’t suit NJ

Godden is 35, missed a massive chunk of last season injured and is a centre forward. Leaburn is injury prone and a centre forward. Mbick is young, a Centre forward and off the back off a big injury. That’s leaves us Alli, Grant (who himself picks up injuries), Campbell and Apter  as the wide players. One gets injured and we are down to two wide players. Two get injured and we will need to change formation (as Jones clearly doesn’t trust Apter - and I make him right) or fill square pegs in round holes - Jones has worked hard to ensure a change in formation and style of play. We need Rak Saki or another wide player. Even with those 4 and Rak Saki we will only have 5. We don’t just need squad depth, we need proper competition.

Forget what he has done in his last 3 loan moves. It’s totally irrelevant.

Jones wouldn't have gone after him if there wasn't enough there to convince him he can play his way.

He has a record of getting the best out of players, and doesn't suffer fools lightly. If JRS is signing it's because Jones believes he can get him to play our way, which I'm absolutely buzzing for

We can discount his time at Stoke as worth anything - that’s where careers go to die.

I very rarely comment... but what a silly post.
Made worse by the fact that he made an identical post on 19 August and loads of people pointed out that JWS is a winger and not a striker.

Well, underhyped if anything given that you posted this exact thing before and for the second time you've got his Stoke goals wrong, probably because you're using Wikipedia. He scored 3 there. You've also left out his 11 league assists, which are quite important for a winger. So that's 29 goals and 11 assists across four teams. 40 goal involvements across 103 appearances all without having a settled home and still only being 23 now. That's a goal involvement every 2.6 games which is outstanding. If you take it by minutes played, because he was subbed on a lot for some of those teams, then he played 6,849 minutes, which lowers it to a goal involvement every 1.9 games, which is a ratio any striker in the world would kill for and it's attached to a young winger instead.

I guess if you choose to make your moniker on here 'Doomer' then you're clearly invested exclusively in moping no matter what. If you're that starved of attention just join a book club or something.

Holsgrove coming in would surely mean 2 midfielders exit? We probably have at least 5 outgoings before the window shuts

Don’t post anymore on here these days, thankfully to some of the posters on here but
I got shot down a bit, for generalising against some of the more pessimistic fans on here let’s say.

But just wanted to make a point even further clear, that I think that it’s been completely embarrassing how some of you have acted on here over this summer transfer.

Regardless of results in first 2 games, you haven’t backed the club, ridiculed the recruitment and panicked before the window has even shut or got going.

Some will ultimately get their back up with this post and that’s fine but the posts on here over the summer from most have been laughable. A genuine lack of understanding how football clubs and systems work.

Hats off to NJ and recruitment team because, again, the squad has been improved and we’re moving in a positive direction.

We should all feel lucky as to where we are now and where we were, not even 3 seasons ago.

    Good points

Very exciting if we complete this signing. They were hunting for £15m for him not too long ago!

JRS will need need some time for fitness and sharpness. He's probably still faster than his near namesake JRC without a pre-season, but he's missed out on first team training. Luckily for us, our squad is nicely balanced and barring an injury crisis, we don't need to throw anybody in at the deep end.

watch his Sheff Utd highlights - hes not just a one trick pony and was kicking on.  Part of the problem was Palace's valuations which deterred potential suitors.
He got his fair share of goals, same applies for assists.

He didn't suit a defensive, hardwrking NJ side that expected wingbacks to bomb up and down constantly.  But he very much suits a 4-2-3-1 if he is one of the 4 offensive players and not expected to be as much of a defender

I highly doubt Holsgrove is coming in, but if he does then Doc and JRC will be off

Kanu, Asiimwe, Kaminski and Apter or Burke as well

    Leaves us with

    Okonkwo, Mannion, Brookes
    Mcnamara, Ramsay
    Jones, Sichenje, Burke
    Koumetio, Bell
    Edwards, Mesík
    Chalobah, Holsgrove
    Coventry, Ouma, Mwamba
    Carey, Knibbs
    Rak-Sakyi, Alli, Apter
    Grant, Campbell
    Godden, Kelman
    Leaburn, Mbick

As the 27 (bold is under 21's, italics are one to leave one to stay)

Much stronger than before the window

Surely the Holsgrove coming to London stuff has to have come from the Charlton side. Do we really think our sources here are plugged into the player as well as the club?

Re RC saying that it was only an RW to be done, that is something can easily change and RC would I’m sure say the same.

The club will have the Galbraith deal in mind here no doubt and if things have shifted on the players side then you can easily imagine funds being made available.

Those saying JRS is overhyped are, in my opinion, missing the non-footballing factors that have affected his loans. Being far from home, system, roles he was asked to play, starting vs bench etc.

Coming to us just feels like the right move for him. We are playing better football and the perfect system for him. Close to home and with lots of close friends in the squad. Manager who will get the best out of him, club making progress. Timing and everything about it just feels bang on.

Absolutely, Praps the reason JRS is a good fit here is the same reason TC has resigned and seems happy and playing well, this one isn't about stats, there's a connection there you can't buy.

If Holsgrove is off on the motorway to another club, Nathan Jones needs to give Curbs a bell and find out how he intercepted Claus Jensen at the services on the way to Ipswich. Don’t know if many people know that story.
