I did a great game yesterday, 3rd vs 4th in the Prem, and Tunbridge Wells won the thrilling game against Blackheath by 1 wkt inside the last over. The game swung all day and either side could have won. It was a day for keeper catches, 8 taken, and three dropped. Some brilliant bowling, dogged batting, and indifferent fielding from both teams. Intense game to umpire too!

Good last couple of weeks for me with the ball. 9-6-13-0 last week, but in a loss, and 9-1-25-4 this week in a must-win.

Think Old Colfeians 4s may have left it slightly too late to rescue ourselves from relegation, sadly, given the forecast might do us over next weekend.

My last season at the club, too - after 19 seasons(!) I'm moving to Guildford early next year so will be joining a club there that's more local.
Good luck with the move Paddy ..by all means you can leave OCs but you can only check out on CL

Our twos stopped back to back relegation with a comfortable win v chelmsford 4s who are as good as down.
my first game in a couple of months due to a knee injury got 7 overs in no wickets for not many and felt ok but overnight it’s flared up again aaaah done loads of rehab etc so hopefully it will settle as quickly as it flared up.
our ones look like being relegated their in a 3 way battle for the last relegation spot and are currently in 2nd bottom so have to win against second placed who can’t win the league and hope one of the other two don’t win.

we've been so short of players all year and then this weekend we had soooo many availability’s , madness the fucking seasons nearly finished where the heck has everyone  been

End of an era at OCs for sure! The two of us agreed last week that we should try to play together again before Paddy left (for now) and the stars miraculously aligned a few days later. Fittingly, it proved to be a good day out for both of us and the team.

Our ones was probably the only game that went the distance our way , was the only one in the Prem division and they needed a win to stay up.
Tons of sawdust and neutral umpires so all fair and the game was reduced to 39 overs
and second placed Springfield got 149/8 with boffin taking 3/31 in 7 overs
we got to 119/5 and 142/8 my son was in at 9 and was the last wicket to fall 5 runs short , gutted for him.
He never drinks but 4 of em ended up having a depression session till 5am at the ground still not seen him , he’s supposed to be seeing his bird over in Surrey , don’t think that’s happening!

Final weekend of the season but no massive twists and turns.

In the Premier Division, St Lawrence & Highland Court secured the title by beating Blackheath by 19 runs. Runners-up Hayes defeated Minster which had the knock-on affect of sending their opposition down. Whitstable beat Bexley by 2 wickets ensuring their Premier status and meant that Lordswood join Minster in going down. I'm not sure anyone had those two clubs on their relegation bingo card.

In the Championship, Gravesend retained their top spot by beating Broadstairs by 64 runs and will be joined by Bickley who needed to score 200 but went one step further by defeating Bromley Common by the relatively narrow margin of 12 runs. A remarkable turnaround for Bickley given they lost three of their first four matches but then only suffered one defeat in their final 14 games. Beckenham and Dartford are relegated to Division One and will be replaced in the Championship by Kings Hill and Chestfield.

Our First XI stayed up and our 2nds got relegated this year, we lost two very good player over the winter, one moved away and the other moved up to a higher league.  I played the first game of the season for our 2nds and promptly retired for a 2nd time.

Was at The Mote rather than The Valley today, as Colfes 1s took part in the Div 5 promotion playoff with Lordswood 2s.

Lordswood started like a train, reaching 100/0 off about 16 overs, before some canny spin bowling reduced them to 137/6 or thereabouts. The tail wagged and they posted 233/9 off 45 - not an insurmountable score. Good knocks from Rishabh Pandey (who has clarted me about in friendlies before) and whoever got 47 batting in the lower order helped.

In reply, Colfes wobbled at 20-odd for 2 before a 70-ish run stand between Vik and Dre got us in a fairly decent position (albeit slightly behind the rate). Dre then copped a bad LBW off a slow full toss from their 1s bowler, Ant Quinn, for 48. Spectators behind the bowler's arm (or behind the keeper, can't remember which) who were either neutral or from Lordswood said it looked like it was comfortably going down leg. Ahh.

We faltered a bit from there. 150/4 was alright, but then we lost a bit of the middle order - 3 wickets in 4 balls for their slow left armer - which put it to bed really.

Beaten by the better side on the day, and you could argue in hindsight the impact on the game from these guys was not completely match-changing, but a real shame that KCL said two blokes who'd played 10 1s games (vs 5 2s games) and 12 1s games (vs 6 2s games) in the Prem for Lordswood were allowed to play. We don't have a higher team to call upon for a game like this.

I also thought the umpiring was pretty poor. Non-standard signalling from both umpires, a lack of communication, and missing six players out the ring for Lordswood (that's immaterial but still poor from people paid to do this) in the death overs. Can't personally comment on the LBW, whatever, but... yeah, it felt like the day was against us a bit.

Not taking away from Lordswood's performance, and all the best to them in Div 4, but there we have it!

I think that there is a big distinction in terms of the two "first team" bowlers that Lordswood played.

Adeel Hussain has been knocking around various Kent League teams 1st XIs for donkeys years but time has probably caught up with him. His previous four League games were all in the 2nd XI and he only took one wicket in total. So, legitimately, he is a second team player.

Ant Quinn, brother of Kent's Matt, is a totally different situation. He did play half a dozen games for the 2s at the start of the season, the last of which was on 18th July and in that time he took 17 wickets at 10.53.  He was then selected for Lordswood's 1st XI in each of their next seven matches. In that time he took 4-52 against Minster and 5-25 against Whitstable (his penultimate match) and returned 9-0-27-1 against Tunbridge Wells in their final game. There is zero chance that he would have been dropped had the first team had a game yesterday.

There is a Kent Cricket League rule that covers this:

Artificially Stacking Teams: Any attempt to load, stack, or select the strength of 2nd, 3rd, or lower teams for tactical reasons—or because a higher team has a "bye," free weekend, or rained-out match—is treated as a serious breach of the rules and the spirit of cricket.

I'm not sure that the actual performance of Ant Quinn has any bearing on that rule (albeit that one could argue that, in taking the wickets of Colfe's second and third highest scorers at 48 and 33 respectively, he has) so if Colfes's feel strong enough about this then they should lodge a complaint. It's definitely not within the "spirit of cricket" but the Committee might deem that those games earlier in the season were justification for them playing him in the first team yesterday. It's certainly not something I would be comfortable with doing because I believe that you should reward the players who have taken a side to a promotion play off.

The Covenant 2s stacked their team for the last game of the season and it looks like they might be penalised, and miss promotion as a result!

Thank you. All of these arguments (and more) were tabled in the week leading up to the match, as - very sensibly - there was a vetting process in place and the proposed teams had to be submitted in advance. The League batted our objections away for the reasons you mention - that both players had played sufficient 2nd XI cricket this year to be included. Both had, of course, taken a 5-for in the Prem this season too, lol. Anyway, we had to accept the decision and get on with it. In the end, it was a really good contest which ebbed and flowed until the last 15 overs, when a very strong Lordswood side took it away from us.
