Therein lies the problem. Money talks. When you hear that Yorkshire, for hosting a Test match, would get between £1.5m and £2m and they have revenue from the Hundred on top, it's easy to see why we simply cannot compete.Geraint89 said:
This is one of the problems with Kent. Poor batting after a decent session means we are throwing away good positions. It is deeply frustrating how we cannot grasp hold of situations like that and bat teams out of a game. You really should be getting over 300 on yesterdays play. We will really struggle in Division 1 if we get promoted. We need better players.Addick Addict said:Northeast LBW 11 (31)
That's all of our top three to miss straight ones
188-4 (47)
Even then Yorkshire got themselves into deep financial trouble and had to be bailed out by the ECB. Both Middlesex and Sussex have had severe financial sanctions imposed on them. There are rumours of two or three other counties in a similar situation and who's to say we aren't one of those?
Equally, who was the last player we signed that was of the sort of "marquee" signing that a Surrey might? We haven't had one so we are reliant on homegrown talent, relatively up and coming overseas and decent discards from other counties.3 -
Well that was a short break - back out again!1

Well that sums everything I've been saying about Ekansh. Hits Chahal for a 4 and a 6 and then tries to slog sweep the next ball and is caught at short midwicket for 19 (22). I'm his biggest fan but also his biggest critic and he has to learn to stop finding different ways of getting out.

Harrison, Northants other leggie, cleans up Stewart for 3 (12). Poor shot but the ball did turn and keep low too. As I said yesterday, a worry for us given we only have the one spinner in our side
247-7 (61.3)1 -
Hopefully we can eke out 1 batting point at least0

250-7
A batting bonus point!4 -
Good! Can the last 3 wickets add 50 runs given that most teams manage it against usAddick Addict said:250-7

I'm ready , waiting & shoed up when needed.....3

We have thrown away a very good position, through inability to play the spinners well today. We will be around 170 short of your target and that has given Northants great impetus. Apart from the financial situation, we are not getting enough from what we have and there is mentality thing still. Let's hope we have a lot of rain to save the game, because I believe Northants will get over 350.Addick Addict said:Harrison, Northants other leggie, cleans up Stewart for 3 (12). We should be only 3 or 4 down if we batted sensibly. Ekanash needs a bit of Talking to. He is wasting some of his batting talent.LenGlover said:

Dudgeon caught at short leg for 3 (12) off Chahal. So 8 wickets lost for 96 runs in little more than 25 overs

Day 3 won’t take place. Just need to make sure we don’t lose.4

I trust our bowlers more than our batters. 350 for Northants would be a huge total on this wicket in these conditions. We have thrown away a very good position, through inability to play the spinners well today. Whatever Kent can scrape together in their 1st innings, I expect Northants will be happy to get anywhere near it, thanks to the good work by our openers yesterday. I also expect Parkinson will relish bowling here. If the weather forecast for later today and tomorrow is accurate, this match will not reach a conclusion anyway.0 -
The mental side of things has been the case with so many of our batters in recent seasons - Ekansh is only just 20 and in his infancy but the likes of DBD, Crawley and Northeast (two hundreds from 52 innings between them) have no such excuses for giving their wickets up at times. Too many have had a decent period of time at the wicket and are "in" but failed to turn those scores into hundreds:Geraint89 said:

That’s a terrific effort by Bell-Drummond and Milnes after the middle order folded. 345 is a very decent first innings total.

Milnes has hit Vasconcelos covering all three stumps, hitting him shin high and not given out

Hoping to put the mockers on him but I’ve never seen vasconcelos ever fail against us, feels like he gets runs every time3
