What are people expected to do on night games when travelling from work with a rucksack1

See plenty of people with rucksacks getting in today. I bought my little girl the home shirt from the club shop and the draw string bag you get from there is allowed.1

I went in there pre-match. They wouldn't even let me have it back when we left for kick off. They said I'd have to come back after the game.AddicksAddict said:

The irony that I couldn't take it in the fans' bar, which is full of glass. If you wanted to hurt someone you wouldn't need a cheap umbrella. It's bonkers.0 -
Never seen so many stewards on the gates. Had my bag searched for Crossbars but not going into the curbs stand. Was a pain in the arse having to carry so much stuff in pockets as well as the tiny bag and then also carrying my son at times.
Works ok this time of year, but would be way too much hassle in the winter when he needs extra layers etc. Ultimately we will end up doing fewer games off of the back of it.0 -

We always bring some drinks and snacks for half time and we used a smaller ruck sack today, which was fine with the stewards, who were all very cheerful. We certainly saw bigger bags being allowed in after being checked.0

At the end of last season, the club introduced a trial bag policy aimed at enhancing safety and security and streamlining supporter entry to the stadium. Following the trial, the policy has been implemented for the 2026/27 season. Click here to read the policy in full.
Reusable, transparent bags are available to purchase in the club shop, priced at 80p, allowing supporters to bring their belongings or newly purchased merchandise into the stadium in these bags.
As this is the first full season of the policy, the club will work with supporters who bring luggage and bags to the upcoming fixture against Preston North End. Fans requiring a medical exemption or wishing to bring additional luggage are encouraged to email safetyteam@cafc.co.uk by 6pm on Friday evening. For all future matches, there will be an online exemption form available on the club website that supporters can fill out no later than 48 hours before matchdays.
A temporary bag storage facility will be available for the upcoming fixture against Queens Park Rangers, with a permanent solution to be introduced in due course.
The club will monitor the process and work with supporters should changes be required.

Standard Charlton bag search which consists of a steward observing a marginal opening of zip followed by a quick glance into the pocket of darkness.
Unless, your gun, knife or kilo of drugs are hanging out the top, you should be fine.

No problems entering the AC stand today. I walked past 2 stewards checking some bags and expected to get stopped by the more official-looking guy, with a hand full of tags, behind them. Nope, he ignored me, as did the steward standing beside the turnstile I used. I decided to give myself up to the bunch of bag inspectors after the turnstiles. We exchanged pleasantries, he had a brief look inside my half drawstring/half backpack bag, put the tag on and that was that.0

Arrived home from the match today to find an email responding to my request for an exemption certificate for Mr F sent 21 hours earlier.
If this is an example of how our club are dealing with this serious issue, all I'd venture to say is "Good Luck !"
The email addressed to me stated : " Good morning. I can confirm that you will be exempt from the bag policy and therefore you will be able to bring your bag into the stadium. Kind regards, Safety Team. "
How generic is that ?

This feels like they rely on a generic risk assessment/ EFL default guidance to ‘tick the regulatory box’ but have no meaningful practical execution.That does not assist safety in a meaningful way or comply with the intention of the legislation.5

The AC stand stewards were busy with devices to check your tickets because for the zillionth year in a row the turnstiles aren’t fixed and working properly.Hex said:No problems entering the AC stand today. It is pathetic and with busy games leads to awful queues to get in.
I assume the movers and shakers don’t give a damn because they don’t have to use the turnstiles themselves.

My experience yesterday was not what I expected. Arrived at East Stand entrance, engaged with a steward, asked to look in my rucksack. I said I have 2 emails for permission to carry in stuff. He said something like not interested, looked in my bag with my two bottles & medication, put a tag on my bag and off I went through the turnstiles. An anticlimax.1
