I used to go to the Woolwich Wimpys in 1971 with my future wife before we went to the ABC pictures.

I remember the one in Hare street, it must have opened around 1964, when I was a child, my mum preferred the Lyons tea room so remember being some times feeling put out.bobmunro said:Crusty54 said:

Nearly opposite the one in Hare Street was an amazing pet fish store with banks of tanks - Aquarius ?0

Another venue that I would visit both in my schoolboy days, or when I worked at Woolwich for the publishers Morgan Grampian.
Not been back to Woolwich for 10 years, a place that my parents shopped for furniture/ clothes, and myself for records, either at the RACS, or Down town records across the road from the current Wimpy.
Must admit I used McDonald's, when it opened if I went out for lunch and went shopping for things.
Used to go to the ABC on a Sunday, and would meet a few friends in there.
My mother loved the covered Market, last time I went there was 20 years ago, all very run down as was Woolwich which was sad to see. I travelled through Woolwich, every day to go to Plumstead from Charlton to go to school on the 53 bus.
But like Cuffs and Garretts, another time and a different world.

Green cups and saucers and leaf tea in a green pot! Also glass bowls of jelly with chunks of fruit in the jelly.Cuffs with the compressed air chutes sending money up to the office, Garretts, the Co-op departmental store with a cafeteria on the next to top floor (often used to have a plate of chips and beans in there for lunch when I was at school) and a silver service restaurant on the top floor.Simple days - but a great town back in the 60s/70s.0
