Oliver Skipp would be an absolutely crazy signing. Wasn't that long ago he was being positioned as Tottenham's first choice holding midfielder and being talked about for England. Then he was a £20m signing for Leicester in the Premier League. Two seasons later he's a L1 player we're seriously looking at. I could see Leicester being willing to let him go for very little or nothing given he's apparently on £50k a week but even if we offer him half that it's a lot to invest on a player on a real downward trajectory. Feels a bit like we've realised JRS is off, gone for a low salary alternative in Nkeng and shifted the money we were willing to throw at Jes into the CM position but it's a real gamble to be giving that to Skipp instead.
If you honestly think Skipp is a good signing, then I wouldn’t suggested looking up “Skipp” on the #LCFC hashtag on X. Their fans despise him, and most of their worries come from not being able to shift him due to his wage demands. None of them seem to rate him as a player either, and think they are a better side without him in the team. It’s hugely underwhelming unfortunately.
What were Leicester opinions on Yann Kermorgant?
What were Charlton opinions on Simon Francis?
Neither Kermorgant or Francis came off the back of a £25m transfer fee and ridiculously high wage demands, and also seemingly with attitude problems.

We’ve just managed to ship off a high earner who thought he was the dogs bollocks when he was actually naff in Kaminski, we don’t need another one.

I couldn't care less about their opinions on him. My opinion on him is he's shit. I don't know how anyone who's seen him play fairly regularly over the last couple of years could have a different opinion.
Because Football Fans get it so very right all the time...
Obviously not but Skipp just looks completely crap and disinterested whenever I've seen him play.
Doesnt mean he's going to be shit with us, and opinions should be reserved until we've seen him play a number of games for us then; We already proved Leicester wrong over Yann Kermorgant... Bournemouth proved we were wrong to think Simon Francis was shit... Football is littered with countless other examples

Oliver Skipp is Docherty but just gets paid more
Remarkably similar stats last year, Docs could even be argued as better

    Skipp left, Doc right

So many judgements of Skipp based on his failed spell at Leicester. They are a terribly run club in a death spiral, who have overpaid players and wrecked a number of reputations in recent years.

He is a very solid midfielder who has good pedigree at Premier League and Championship level. He is likely absolutely raring to get his career back on track, if Jones likes him then I'm fully behind it.
With you on that. I understand others negativity, but as always, judge him in a Charlton shirt (if he signs)

Ah yes... I forget that Skipp had involvement in the transfer fees that have been paid for him

I'm glad we're looking at central midfield because even with our good start there's still question marks there. Coventry has started well but Chalobah took 2.5 games for reality to catch up with him again. Even if he was only taken off as a precaution it shows that we always have to have someone ready to come in for him at any given moment. Ouma needs to regain fitness and then adapt to a very difficult league and while I'm not judging him on a first, fairly unfit start against Spurs I also didn't see anything to to indicate he'll be ready any time soon. Mwamba made a great start but it's a lot to ask him to carry our season and Doc is surely off. JRC seems to be being considered in the advanced role to offset his lack of mobility. I really don't know if Skipp is the solution given his recent struggles but I think it's important that we're addressing the potential issue we have there if Chalobah gets hurt and Ouma isn't up to it.

I seem to remember Doc being linked with Leicester earlier in the window, maybe there's a deal to be done there with him and Skipp going in opposite directions to offset a fee?

He doesn't but it does impact Leicester fans opinion of him. How many times have we seen the Apter & Ahadme fees and TK's alleged wages used as a qualifier for criticism?

Off the pitch yes, on the pitch my memory is telling me that Leicester fans felt he thought he was better than them. Could be wrong there though

Quietly excited by the Nkeng signing because this is how successful, sustainable clubs operate; diversifying the signings to help the first team now and potentially benefit us in the future. A relatively cheap signing that could lead to a payday if he has two good seasons with us. Smart business.

However, I don’t think that we have enough at RW. Of course that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t go for Nkeng. But it does mean that we are looking at a bit of a lopsided group of wingers who all seem more suited to playing off the left if this is the only business we do.

If he is being purchased in addition to a right winger, then brilliant. But I can understand why some would find it hard to understand this deal without a more natural RW in the squad too.

Skipp doesn’t make a lot of sense to me as he doesn’t strike me as a similar profile to Holsgrove, who we have been told was our no1 midfield target. Perhaps it’s just an opportunistic move. I have friends who know the Chalobahs and they told me it was a pulled quad, which could be anywhere from two weeks to two months depending on the severity. So I don’t think Skipp is in reaction to that.

Still holding out hope for JRS.

Just looked back on his 101 odd prem appearances.... starting for Spurs alongside Kane and Kulusevski in wins against Chelsea and all sorts. Doc he isnt - lets be real for a second.

May not even happen but I have no doubt playing in a more settled team on the up and a more settled club he will show some quality. You dont play 100 times in the prem if you're worse than Doc.

So a guy who was bought for £20m and made over 70 prem appearances for Spurs, or Doc. Think I know who I’d prefer.

This deal is reminding me of Conor Coady joining in January
A good few Charlton fans were underwhelmed by it, Wrexham fans were saying his legs were gone...

Underwhelmed,  A cm who’s been on the downward curve for a few years and a young prospect as our winger

Was hopeful with all the dry powder we could get someone really exciting today but nothing so far

Obviously he is the reason Leicester have had back to back relegations. Can’t possibly have been any of the other players faults, or the fact they are so badly run.

I could have told you what he was going to say. You could have named every one of their 25 man squad and the answer would have been the same.

We get it, you're not keen on the signing.

Seems highly rated.  Good luck to the lad

That's a bit of a wtf signing, don't think he's particularly highly rated at Wimbledon and that's at a club where their academy doesn't tend to produce much for first team level
Their academy is similarly to ours, lots of talent get poached by the bright lights of premier league academies before they get near the first team
