My only problem with these scheduling complaints is that when it benefits us (and it will later in the season) it never/rarely works out that the opposition look tired etc.FishCostaFortune said:I think Jones does let the schedule stuff get to much into his thought making process.
But how can we play away the day after Stoke played at home, and then have a 12:30 start away at there’s next game.
Make it make sense.6 -
Re the pen - Pretty sure I’d be right in saying that most supporters of any side would generally expect the ref to blow his whistle, give the two players a talking-to, and have the corner retaken. Maybe if it was given elsewhere on the pitch, it wouldn’t be as much of an issue, but the fact that the decision to give a foul resulted in a pen means most would feel that the punishment outweighs the infringement.
Also pretty sure any other supporter of any other club would be slightly aggrieved to be on the wrong end of that decision, especially when you add it to the other three or four terrible decisions given in the game.

Pissed off at the performance
Pissed off at the Ref
Pissed off at the result.
But
10 points from our first 5 games is excellent.
Now let's get 10 points from our next 5 games.16 -
Turned it off after the first half. Very rare that I do that.
Need a big response midweek1 -
Couldn’t have been much of a worse day really. Charlton’s debacle, Palace and Millwall winning, horse bets on a par with today’s reffing performance and an arsewipe of a neighbour has a bonfire at 4pm on a hot Saturday afternoon.
Kent, the only bright moment (excluding the bonfire).2 -

The only time I have had the chance to meet a manager after a game was after Southend away on new year's Eve. 2 all draw. Karl Robinson was at the service station in McDonald's. I told him the reason why we didn't win is because we aren't playing our youngsters as much as we should specifically Aribo... Rest is history.. I'm not after huge gratifications but maybe a mention by Aribo or Karl or Charlton fans in general would be nice..Chef_addick said:
Yes but, he's given us more good days than bad over the last 2 years, and I'd rather be disappointed coming home from Stoke after losing in the Championship than Stockport in league 1.Karim_myBagheri said:

Was hoping to go today as Stoke is one of three Championship ticks I need. Got stuck at a kids birthday party instead. Both torture but quite glad I didn’t make the trip.1

Not the best away day, totally fell apart for half an hour, dozy ref and strange team selection and that was that, note to self don't do Stoke next season.2

If we our results were
beat Derby 2-1
lost to WHU 4-0
beat Preston 1-0
beat Stoke 1-2
we would be over the moon with that start which is exactly the same points that we do have …
We are equal top of the championship after 5 games two home games coming up big chance to get at least another 4 points
let’s keep it in perspective guys ….

Said on the match thread. Don't think it's a coincidence that this seems to happen against Stoke and Southampton. Jones is so on edge at the best of times so when we play them his history with them puts him even more on edge and it feeds through to the players loss of composure.12

Give over.. I was saying it tongue in cheek but I would of said something... This is football it's different to your usual everyday job, people spend their money on you and you have a right to give your opinion within reason.AberystwythAddick said:

If you can't give your opinion then this site wouldn't exist.. and many commentators and pundits would be out the job. I wouldn't be rude but if you can't say what you think face to face then you shouldn't say it at all, especially online without any context. He could of told me "not now" and I would of respected that and left. And at later time send him a bouquet of flowers..1 -
Good point. Maybe he overthinks it. The team selection today would certainly point to that.cantersaddick said:Said on the match thread. From what i've read he was a bit slow to get going on loan at Sheff Utd and even lost his place in the side, but then came back in and did brilliantly. So perhaps he just needs a bit of time to settle in. Got to bear in mind he's not even been here for a week yet and he's only 21.Clem_Snide said:Started well and I was actually thinking to myself, how it was nice to finally see a Charlton team that looked like it was a physical match for a traditionally strong, powerful outfit.
Then Madley decided to get involved. That is the softest of soft penalties. 9/10 that isn't given and if VAR is in the Championship then it is overturned as they were both holding, it is just that the Stoke bloke decided to throw himself to the floor.
I am not for one moment saying Ouma had a good game, but as I said on the match thread the pile on was embarassing and seems to fit this Charlton Fan obsession with having someone to scapegoat and slag off. He clearly wasn't passing to Grant for the second, it was an attempted clearance that hit our player and dropped perfectly for Stoke. If you are going to call out Ouma why are you not equally questioning Skipp? A player established in this country who has played loads in the premier league and championship was utterly anonymous.
TBH I am more concerned with how poor Bindon has looked in his 2 games. His weak header gave West Brom a goal on Weds and he completely went to sleep for the 3rd goal today. Stood and watched the bloke. So he is currently 2 games played, 2 goals on him.
The 4th goal sums up a day when everything that could go wrong did. Their player was jumping out of the way of a shot going wide and it clips his heel and goes in.
All that being said the collective mental collapse for 20 minutes after the penalty stunk of Charlton teams of yesteryear.
Back to the referee and Linesman, I actually think the corner not given from the back pass was up there as one of the worst decisions I have ever seen. It was 3 yards over the line when their keeper cleared it.
I left the 'hi-lights' running at full time as I wanted to see McNamara's sending off again. An absolute joke of a decision. He was sent off for pointing at the goal which was interpreted as waving his hand asking for a card. Utter nonsense.8 -
I'm firmly on Team Jones but I will absolutely admit that he has a couple of weird hang-ups psychologically when he's against sides he "failed" at. He has colossal amounts of self-confidence which is normally a strength but when it runs up against the fact that certain sides actually fired him for his performances there it seems to drive him way too far into his own head sometimes.cantersaddick said:Said on the match thread. Yes ref was poor , with a chance to go back top ,nathan then makes to many changes and it well and truly back fired1

It's as if joining your team mates before the season starts so you get to gel together might be something to try . Just saying....🤷♂️Chris_from_Sidcup said:

Ouch, back down to earth with a bump!
An absolute horror show, well done the fans that made it and carried on singing despite what was going on the pitch.1 -
Bindon let his man go for the header goal, despite Jones telling him that the scorer was his man before the cross came over.Chris_from_Sidcup said:

He was signed later because of injuries to Collins and Billy.3 -
I blame the purple kit, currently 9-4 aggregate score against us, an torn ACL, another CB out and a red card!!8

I know Collins' injury is season ending iirc, but when the fu*k are Josh, Kayne, Nathaniel and Billy gonna be fit, not to mention Matty and Charlie, our injuries seem to take an age to recover for some reason...0

It might get a bit lost in the overall calamity of the day, but that third goal was a real shocker.guinnessaddick said:

There’s no logic in rushing players back, it’s so early in the season if they come back too early and get injured again then what?eastterrace6168 said:I know Collins' injury is season ending iirc, but when the fu*k are Josh, Kayne, Nathaniel and Billy gonna be fit, not to mention Matty and Charlie, our injuries seem to take an age to recover..2
