Drove past the old Grasshopper Inn on the way back from a car show in Edenbridge yesterday, was very sad to see the state of it now.2

I must have walked past it a dozen times going to nearby pubs and restaurants and never even noticed it.2 -
A long time ago since I went in there but was always a cracking boozer.

Shame as Greg who runs Old Kings Head on Borough High Street is a silent partner there. A lot of Fullers Managed pubs are a bit soulless these days.

Went in The Vanbrugh NEAR Maze Hill Station on Saturday. Was ok and hopefully my observations about not having any bitter on other than Directors, will be noted.
They could also be a bit more "football-savvy" with their menu on matchday, if they want to attract a few more supporters.
I will visit again though, as it wasn't bad at all and nice to have another option near a local (to Charlton) station.0 -

I like Directors a lot.0

It’s given me a few headaches over the years but me too. If I can manage to get further west than the RAH I’ll give that a go.0

Every time I go in there they seem to spend ages making cocktails and long drinks rather than pouring beer. That’s when they actually have an ale on!0

Don't know. I saw no "cooking bitter" was available so went for Guinness.FreshHaddock said:

Didn't realise the vanbrugh was open again. Sunday lunch pub

Great news, that'll make the prices more reasonable.

Yep that’s the one a real shame as I used to go every Thursday with my boss as he stays down at the Marriott. Very handy but is no surprise as was never that busy due to the ridiculous prices the brewery charges them.DA9 said:

Agree....not the replica shirt-wearing/singing crowd but they wouldn't say no to a few more of the West/East Stand types.Charlton_Charlie said:Simonsen said:Went in The Vanbrugh NEAR Maze Hill Station on Saturday. However, a current lunch offer that currently doesn't offer sandwiches/steak & kidney pie/fish & chips etc, is unlikely to pull many of those in. If they sort that out and get their bitters up and running, then I think they could pull a few more in and help to tick over until summer....when they will score because of their very decent garden.1 -

If that doesn't get them to up their real ale game, nothing will....shirty5 said:4 -

Its very easy to throw barbs (and with the threshold being pretty low on here some may consider them witty) at the brewery without full context.
They were persured for quite a while by the large international drinks companies for some time for a purchase but tried as hard as they could to stay true to their ethos. What hasnt been reported about is the fact that they were being squeezed out of the putting their goods in regular pubs by those same organisations when they wouldnt sell.
So in laymans terms -
Pub A has a deal with a brewery owned by a massive organisation.
Brewdog asks pub A to stock their drink, pub A refuses or offers incredibly unfair terms for stocking.
Price of brewdog drops as a company.
The major brewerys have a cartel on the market whixh will drive out independents who dont play the game.
You'll be a regular in a spoons eventually mate.'Insufficient funds' to pay Brewdog creditors after takeover deal
